    Pumpkin wall

Loved visiting this market! We visited during their fall festival. Mainly came to visit the pumpkin wall but stayed around for the produce. It's free entry for their fall activities which is great especially if you have kids. Lots of photo ops to and fresh produce to choose from.

Love, love, love their fall celebrations and this year they did not disappoint! Tons of pumpkins and mums galore for all! They also have local produce and local honey for those who use that to help combat allergies. I always go here for my corn and tomatoes as well when they are in season. Highly recommend stopping in and enjoy the festive atmosphere!

Have heard about this place for a while before I could make it to it. This place live up to its name. I love the famous wall of pumpkis with the variety types of pumpkins. Super cutr and greaat place to go for fall shopping and also to take the kids. They have so many kids activities areas as well as a huge pumpkins walls to climb on for pictures but also for kids to play in! I had a great time here and woulf deff come back every year! perfect location for fall.

Love everything about this place. Pumpkins and flowers galore, and some of the most instagrammable spots in Alexandria! My favorite thing about Nall's though is the indoor farmers market. They have a great selection of fresh produce and locally made products including bread, cheese, jams, and fudge. Best time to visit is during October for their pumpkin festival. At the end of the month, they carve hundreds of pumpkins for an enormous Halloween display!

I'd never had a go-to garden center - especially one I'd try and go to weekly - until Nalls Produce. Nalls has it all. Seasonal flowers, shrubs, and plants. Pumpkins in the fall and Christmas trees and wreaths in December. Local vendors coming throughout the week to sell their goods (such as Smiths of Mecklenburg selling sausage and other meats every Friday), and featuring locally grown produce, eggs, and dairy products. They truly focus on seasonal, local, and small business products as well as a great experience. They are humble and extremely helpful. The staff are out on the grounds or inside the store area wearing their Nalls' shirts (or hoodies in colder months), so feel free to ask them questions. They also have chickens and a cat that freely walk the area which is always a treat to see. Lastly, there are a couple of geese that live there and a wonderful teacup pig named Penny. She's got her own fan club and a book share! Nalls is truly a special gem and a 60+ year old institution in Alexandria/Springfield.

Nalls is an absolute treasure for the Kingstown/Franconia/Springfield area. There are very few places like this where you can get FRESH produce and plants and more in the area. It's a place you can trust and a place you feel welcome. I love looking at their plant selection. They have everything from succulents to palm tree plants. There is literally such an amazing selection to choose from! They also have all sorts of garden plants and vegetable plants to do whatever you want with your yard. There is so much to choose from. During the holiday season, you can also get your Christmas trees here! They also have so many food products to choose from. There's tons of canned goods that will last for a long time. My personal favorites are the milk, ice cream, popcorn kernels, and jerky. All of that is delicious! It's also worth mentioning that Penny the Pig lives in that place rent free like an absolute QUEEN. Stop by and visit her!

I love to shop there! They are welcoming and fresh produce. What a lovely place! Nursery part is also great and family oriented.

Comparison of what I got between Nalls and a regular grocery store.

I'm all for local produce, because it means ripe vegetables and fruit full of flavor. The issue I have with Nalls is their extremely expensive prices for many of the products with no justifiable reason (see pics for example). They sell the exact same brand of ghee that Mom's carries, but $5 more expensive *per jar*. A lot of their vegetables and fruit are also not local, but are still priced higher than local grocery stores. I wouldn't get anything from here that comes from a long distance, since you could get the same thing at other grocery stores, but I will still continue shopping here for local fruits and vegetables. The fruits here are amazing, you can actually smell the difference.

A small but significant farm in Franconia, with lots to offer. There was tons of produce, event spaces, and picturesque spots. The staff was really nice and helpfull with all my purchases. I was able to get some fall favorites, such as apple cider, cinnamon donuts. Loved going there and look forward to coming back.

We loved our volunteer experience here, which happened to coincide with Sunday Farm Tonic AND the first heat break of lingering summer. The core staffers are friendly, happy to instruct and teach as you go. If you want to harvest, don't be shy when they ask for a show of hands! Their passion for the cause is infectious, and translating the inexperienced efforts of more than a dozen volunteers into three days' work for a farmer was super gratifying. Pam thoughtfully asked for coordination feedback, gave us tips for some of the produce we were dealing with, and later tasked us with more fun side labor after noticing that we'd been stuck with mundane work for awhile. Lamont was our favorite team leader, showing us the various crops, stripping back some little gem corn that squirrels had nibbled at to show us the reason for their name, and having us taste purslane where they'd begun growing as weeds. Deadheading the flower beds for the benefit of the bees was probably the prettiest task, but weeding the cauliflower patch was certainly more peaceful than digging up wiregrass from the planter boxes. If we lived closer, we'd definitely donate our time at least once a month.

The kimchee is either cabbage and cucumber, and comes in small (a little bigger than a deck of cards $3) or large (the size of a day planner, approx 8.5"x5" $6) Plus, the couple who runs the place is so nice and helpful, and super quick! Sometimes the lady gives me a sample of freshly made kimchee if she's cooking in the back which is mmm :) And the bulgogi ($6/lb I believe) is amazing. Foolproof, and an easy way to pretend that you're an impressive cook. These guys are the first produce section inside when you're coming to Eastern Market from the metro. They always have beautiful displays of a good selection of fruits and veggies (prices are a little on the steeper side in general, but that's Eastern Market for you). I usually swing by here if I need a last minute lemon/garlic/parsnip/leek/etc after work, but I usually shy away from it on weekends when it's packed. Also, veggies/fruits in season are reasonably priced here and better quality than what you would find at Harris Teeter or Safeway. They also have a mini-grocery with staples and sauces. If you have no car and can't get out to H mart or Wegman's, this place has a good selection of Asian cooking sauces. Lentils were $3/bag here though, so I would stay away from other cheap staples unless absolutely necessary. Tip: Make sure to bring your reusable bag so they don't charge that new DC bag tax (they're strict at this place). Yes, you will get a banana and be expected to either hold it or bring your own bag. Location: the most Southern end of the South Hall. Also labeled as Paik's produce, and right next to Fine Sweet Shop.

We had spent 30 minutes wandering the market but quickly realized what a terrible idea that is on an empty stomach. After selecting a few stalks of their crisp, red rhubarb, while at the register we began eying the large, fresh-looking to-go containers of bibimbap, including a big scoop of white rice and a wide array of sauteed and fresh vegetables - one came with tofu (my selection) and the other option with beef (my husband's choice). Each lunch portion was $6.99. Both were delicious and refreshing. The accompanying chili paste had just the right amount of heat. We both finished our entire meals (and one fresh-squeeze raspberry lemonade from another vendor outside) sitting in the shade in the small square out back. Exactly what I was looking for for Saturday lunch.

Longview farm is not a CSA, you get to pick what items you want in your "basket". They grow delicious food slowly - heirloom tomatoes, lettuce greens, eggs fro hens on pasture, grass fed beef and heritage Berkshire pork. You can also visit the farm if you contact them! Check out where your meat is coming from, Portlandia style! They do not have a farm stand. Instead they deliver to customers in DC and locally. They use non GMO corn feed. They do not use pesticides nor herbicides, so it is all very labor intensive and grown very slowly. Penelope is the main person that answers email inquiries, she is warm, friendly and helpful! We just got our first delivery of leaf lard (I was super interested in this after reading about it - old timey pastry pork fat before Crisco became the norm), bacon, tomatoes, basil, shallots, and eggs. Everything looks like it came out of a Edible Magazine catalog showcasing farm gourmet! They deliver to Capitol Hill, Palisades, Cleveland Park, downtown DC, Smithsonian, and locally near the farm. All our animals are raised without antibiotics, hormones, animal by products or growth supplements. We practice natural, sustainable and humane farming but are not certified organic. Our Angus cows are drug-free, grass fed/finished, born and bred on the farm. Rotationally grazed, the herd moves to fresh grass twice a day during the growing season. Our heritage Berkshire pigs are rotated through oak, hickory and poplar woods to forage and root for grubs, acorns, etc. Our meat is USDA processed. Our hens move each day to fresh pasture. Feeds for our pigs and chickens are freshly ground at an Amish feed mill with non GMO corn. Our vegetables are grown naturally without chemicals. Heirloom tomatoes are fragile, but incomparably delicious with evocative names - Heart of Compassion, Marianne, Cherokee Purple...
