I hadn't been in awhile and this place is as Yelp worthy as ever on a warm fall day. It's a must do if you like anything outdoors. They have a giant lake for fishing, you can fish from the dock areas or bring or rent a non-gas powered boat. You can also rent a canoe or paddle boat but all the rental stuff is only open during spring/summer They have a 5 mile trail along the lake that's a nice walk but can be crowded when the weather is good and pay attention since the trail entrance isn't marked as clearly as it could be. They also have mini golf, a train, playgrounds and some other stuff. It's free for Fairfax County residents (glad we're getting something for our taxes) and $10 for everyone else but of course the rentals, mini golf, train, etc. cost extra. There's a decent amount of parking but go early on a nice day or you might have a hard time grabbing a spot. I'll come back here for sure to walk the trail and maybe do a little fishing or rent a boat read more

Came here for a morning run. There is nothing like an outdoor run. The lake is beautiful and its about a 4.5 mile loop. I did two loops and was drained afterwards. Got a glimpse of some cool birds and a deer. Highly recommend just for a stroll. read more

Burke Lake Park has something for everyone! Lots of canopy cover with gravel and dirt paths. Minimal elevation. Walkers, joggers, and bikers on paths. 5-miles around Lake Burke, with additional off-shoot trails to build more mileage. There are also public restrooms, boating rentals, fishing, camping, playgrounds, frisbee areas, and volleyball courts available. Additionally, there is ample parking all around. FYI: in the summer months, non-Fairfax County visitors will have to pay an entry fee of $12/car. read more

I've visited twice for Fit4Mom events and it's been my favorite Southwest NoVA Fit4Mom venue. If you get to the park early enough you can get a parking spot with shade. There are restrooms close to parking, even two family restrooms by Shelter A. There's plenty of picnic tables and nice views of the water not too far from the parking lot. There's also a pretty nice sized playground by the lot for the kiddos. Can't wait to explore other areas of the park during the summer. read more

I visited with family while visiting the national capital region this Memorial Day weekend. Parking near the lake was free and easy. We found a picnic table and settled down for drinks, snacks and relaxed conversation. The weather was perfect - early 70s with a gentle breeze. Some of my earliest memories are of riding the train and carousel at Burke Lake Park. Now, as an adult, I still love coming here. Beautiful (but man-made) lake teeming with wildlife. A 4.5-mile looped trail for hiking and biking. Docks and benches by the shore. Fitness stations from the 1980s that are somehow still standing. What more could one want? This park can get popular on the weekends - and pretty much any day when it's nice out. Still, it's not hard to find a spot to carve out some solitude. There's also a frisbee golf course, an ice cream shop, several playgrounds, and a marina where you can rent boats for the afternoon. There's a mini golf course, and an actual driving range next door. You can even camp here, which I hope to try soon. Fun fact: the plot of land where this park now stands was originally set aside to build Dulles Airport. I'm really glad we get to enjoy this beautiful slice of nature instead of a brutalist mid-century-style airport with poor signage. read more

Thank you, Fairfax County Parks Authority, for this wonderful park. Through 20+ years of living in Fairfax County, we visited this park at least twice a year -- and often more. When the kids were young, a special outing was to visit a playground and take the mini-train ride, followed by an ice cream cone. Later, they were more interested to rent boats to paddle on the lake. Later, we tended to visit primarily to walk the mostly flat trail around the lake (about 5 miles) -- usually stopping at one of the benches on the dam to have a picnic lunch. The park is well-maintained, with seemingly something for everyone -- including accessible fishing piers. It is, however, very popular so you'll be sharing nature with quite a few other people (including couples, older persons, families, etc.). read more

Great park; however, be wary of signing up your kid for camps. Some camp counselors we've had, have been fantastic, especially the archery classes. Others, like most recently, the outdoor skills have been an utter disappointment. The outdoor skills camp for a week cost about $369 and it's managed by two 20 something year olds who have no idea how to manage kids, especially when there are conflicts. There's no warning during the day about violations to prevent a second conflict...these kid counselors don't know how to manage kids in conflict or deescalate, and it could (and did) result in your kid getting suspended from camp without warning. Waste of money and time. From the 3 days my kid was able to attend, there were light 'skills' actually learned. Would recommend some courses like Archery, but wary of the outdoor skills camps run by kids. read more

In our quest to visit all local Parks we visited Burke Lake, what an amazing place to be enjoyed if living in the DMV. The Park itself has all type of facilities from Frisbee Golf to a Train(not open right now). The Restrooms were plentiful, clean and Open !!! We did the trail around the Lake which was well maintained & marked, plenty of space for Social Distancing. The Wildlife was abundant, saw a Hawk, some different duck species to include the Bufflehead. The Trail is around 4 miles (plus) and covers different terrain (nothing too difficult). We definitely look forward to visiting again. read more

First time visiting Burke Lake Park today. First impression driving in is "its a miracle people aren't struck by cars here." Maybe they are and I just don't know about it. Bikes, dog, kids, runners jetting across the entryway as I was coming in. I was shocked and I was also driving slowly. The actual park and (lake) is beautiful. They have a playground for the kids, boat rentals. Hiking trails and restrooms with flushing toilets. We hiked around the lake on the trail provided. It was approx 5.5 miles. Had small hills but mostly flat. Several places to stop and sit at a bench to admire the view of the lake and wildlife. Couple times we were caught up behind a group of people who take up the whole path. And a couple times when people are hiking opposite way and are coming toward you they don't even step aside to offer more room for others. I didnt mind the bikes with bells. I can hear you and be mindful. Otherwise some people fly past you and you barely knew they were approaching. Great bird watching, good fishing spot. Very crowded. read more

A great park that's busy even on a weekday. We went in the morning around 9am and the park was already filled with runners, walkers, volleyball players, children at day camps, and more. It's never a dull moment, and you'll be bound to pass by other people every few minutes or so. Entering the park is free on weekdays, and there's a good amount of parking at each area of the park (the marina, fishing, etc.). It's about 5 miles round trip around the lake, and there's several points along the route where you can get a better view of the lake. It's a great place to walk, run, or just get together with friends in the great outdoors. Highly recommend. read more

This lake and adjoined parking/grilling area is just the spot for a windy stroll, or for a breezy picnic or - like 2 guys were doing - hitting each other with 16th century plastic replica swords and shields.. The forest is thick and there's a boardwalk that goes all the way into the lake on pontoons. Up to the East are a cluster of tourism huts, signs, seats and more trails that bend around Burke Lake. As Fairfax County residents, this is our first time at Burke Lake Park. This park is huge and impressive. It's great for hiking, jogging, canoeing, and many great outdoor activities. We explored the family area with the carousel, train, playground, and ice cream parlor. The playground was a bit small and crowded. I do think they need a bigger playground. The train was really nice and our daughter loved it. It took us on a tour around the lake. The speed of the train was faster than I had expected. The seats were kind of low which is perfect for kids; just not ideal for some taller in stature. I do highly recommend the train ride if you're there with your kids. It's worth it. Besides the carousel, train, and food prices, the park is free for Fairfax County residents. You just need to show your drivers license upon entry. It's a great place for families and those that want to keep active outdoors. read more

This is a wonderful place for everything from hiking, boating, to camping. The fishing, despite this absolutely stunning lake, leaves a lot to be desired. Yet the walkout pier, and ADA approved fishing docks, thank you Fairfax County Park Authority. Am a fan of parks being accessible for all, and this one is a winner in that aspect. My favorite part is the 5 mile hike around the lake. It offers a variety of scenery, and quite often a bald eagle can be spotted on the west side. Camping here is very relaxing. They have some good tent sites, as long as you're okay with non electric. As a fairly experienced camper this works, and I like that staying here, you are still close enough to the store to grab what you inevitably forgot. There's a miniature train to ride on, miniature golf, and a driving range also that are fun. This is one of the areas best, and have spent countless days here. If in the area, glad to give it a recommendation, as it allows you to restore balance with its natural beauty. read more

Chugga chugga choo choo!!! My daughter and I have played train station so much during quarantine, we decided to take her for the real thing! You can purchase train and carousel tickets in advance via the Fairfax County Park Service website and they run approximately every thirty minutes. Families are only able to reserve a full bench to themselves and they have blocked off every two benches so guests can safely socially distance. They oversold our train but luckily we were able to squeeze my daughter on my lap so everyone can enjoy. Even though it was super hot, my daughter had a blast! Afterwards, we were able to catch a ride on the carousel as well (certain seats have been blocked off to encourage socially distancing). The ride operator was a bit grumpy and the lack of music took away from the magical, fun, carousel feeling but my daughter was too young to notice. Overall, we felt safe and was able to get out of the house so no major complaints from me! read more

Disclaimer: COVID-19 review first phase reopening A friend suggested taking my son here, so we decided to visit yesterday. You'd have never known there was any risk of transmission because I saw very little social distancing, several mask wearers though. Parking was crazy; I circled the lot near the marina 5-6 times before getting a pseudo parking space. There were lots of people in the water so I figured swimming was ok. We found a spot in the shade for our stuff and went in where there was no one else. About ten minutes later a park employee started yelling at everyone to get out because it's no swimming allowed. Some guy who was playing his guitar on the dock proceeded to curse out the employee for about 5 minutes with lots of children nearby. Not sure what his problem was because no one ever told him to leave. The geese in the lake come right up to you for handouts. You can also use this area as a boat launch not Just fishing. The restrooms are currently closed which makes it hard to hang out long. Currently no one is manning the pay station which was great cause $10 for non-county residents seems kind of ridiculous. I'd be interested in returning once the mini train opens as well as the carousel and playgrounds. read more

Updating my review after many many many years. We used to come here a lot when we were Fairfax County residents. We've been back a few time since moving to Loudoun County. The park does charge for out of county visitors (which is okay). The lake itself is beautiful and there are a lot of things to do here compared to other parks (train for kids that goes through the woods/around the park, ice cream shop, miniature golf, boat rentals, etc.). My review is focusing on the CAMPING aspects of Burke Lake. When we camped here (maybe 10 years ago), it was really fun and we had two camp sites and things seemed spacious. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, we came here to camp and it was NOT how we remembered it. The camp sites are incredibly small and cramped. The next sites around us were probably 20 feet away and could easily hear our conversations and we could hear them (not useful when trying to get a toddler to sleep at night when people are right next to you). Besides the lack of camp site space and being crowded, here are my biggest issues: the rules weren't followed and weren't regulated. The rules state either 2 tents or 2 cars per site, but one group only had 2 sites but had about 6-7 cars and 6-7 tents as well. Did they fit? Sure ok fine no big deal. But then I could smell cigars and cigarettes.. and being so close to our camp site with kids is not something I prefer my kids to smell all evening. Then one of their cars showed up later in the evening and I heard the group ask him, "want a beer?" and then you hear more cans popping open. The area is alcohol and smoke free.. but no rangers patrol the area or enforce the rules. If they wanted to be loud and obnoxious, they should have gone somewhere more secluded. In summary, the camp sites suck. don't come here to camp. The park itself is beautiful and fun for families/kids. If you want a better local family friendly park to camp at, check out Bull Run or Pohick Bay. Both offer better sites and have more staff patrolling the area. read more

Burke Lake Park is a gem of a park in Virginia. The highlight is of course Burke Lake and there is a fantastic 4.5-mile loop around the lake that is perfect for hikers, runners, and bikers. I found everyone on the trail to be very respectful in keeping their distance. There is also volleyball, shelters, boat rentals, etc. which allows everyone to find something they will like. This place is amazing! I mean it has everything! To begin with..the lake is gorgeous. And the walk around the perimeter is pretty long if you are looking to get a good workout. The trees and leaves show some wonderful color in the fall. Kiddos will love the wide open spaces to play and there are picnic tables all over the place for birthday parties and what not. The little train depot is adorable. Visit during halloween or christmas and let the kids go wild. read more

I would never wear a Burke-a. I just don't like covering myself up that much. Especially not if I were a girl (tosses hair). I meant on the outside, thanks very much for that comment. (pouts) Half my family are of Muslim heritage but I'm not religious so I don't even have religious grounds to wear it. It was that family whom I came to BLP with. I'd been here a long time ago with a college girlfriend (I went to GMU), but this was the first time in a decade. It's a gorgeous, spectacular lake with a wonderful park around it. It's a little hard to navigate, and you can easily get hurt with lots of fallen branches and trees and brush. The path network isn't great all the way around the lake, so it's a real hike. It feels like you're absolutely in nature. There are also a lot of insects that will nibble at you around here. I'm not much of a nature person I guess. But this is definitely a lovely park. A little bit too crowded on some days, though. And nowhere to play football! read more

This park is awesome! The wonderful office worker, Hannah was incredibly helpful to my mother in law who was having a difficult time. She even saved my dog from the moose in the office, it almost collapsed onto him...but that fearless employee held it up and saved his life. She also helped my MIL find her EPI-pen after she ate an apple. Hannah is a godsend and VERY attractive and a joy to my entire family. read more

It's clean, it's HUGE, and it's family friendly :) I have never seen any litter bug or anyone disrespecting this habitat & that's such a blessing! There's the golf course, tables, classic old school little grills in certain spots, a playground somewhere along the trails, the dock, and restroom locations throughout. 3/11/21 I have been to this park on two separate occasions. The first time was by accident. I was driving around getting to know the Virginia area when I ended up at the park. This was near the end of a Summer. The snack station happen to be open and I bought two refreshments. The water and secinic view are wonderful. On a nice hot day, swimming in the water seem very inviting, but I won't do that. You are welcome to do that if you wish. The second time I came back here was with my wife in the Wintertime. This time the snack bar wasn't open. We did see one or two boats on the water, but that is about it. At least the bathrooms were still open at the time. read more

This was such a nice place for my husband and I to take our sweet boy on a long walk! Our pup loves to hike trails for the sniffing and chance to meet other dogs. If you are training your dog for any sort of puppy obedience course, this is a good place to train as well. Our corgi is practicing to pass his puppy level 2 class and one thing he has a tough time doing is walking by dogs/people without giving them attention and listening to our commands (sit, stay) while ignoring distractions. This is a great place to practice since there is no shortage of people or dogs on a nice day. We will definitely be back! read more

I would have given 1 star but the boys in the rental shack were wonderful. Though the website indicates you can rent a jon boat with electric motor and battery, they don't have them. In fact we learned they haven't had any all summer, and wont have any this season at all. Apparently a part is backordered and every single motor needs the same part? Burke Lake Park is such a lovely park! They have so many activities in the summer for the little ones including a train ride, carousal horses, putt putt golf and playground equipment. There is a fee for these activities, but it is very affordable. The lake is just beautiful and I simply wish I lived closer so that I could utilize this park even more. One afternoon we rented a row boat for next to nothing and spent a couple of hours on the water. I didn't want to leave. Clean, affordable and a great opportunity to spend the day outdoors in any season. read more
