We have relied on Burkholder's for many years but this recent event was in stark contrast to the service we had experienced in the past. So much so, that we will not being doing business with them ever again. Here are the details. Day 1, our heating system failed. We contacted their office immediately and was told to call back the next day due to high call volume. When we did, we were informed that the earliest available appointment, given the backlog and our lack of a current service contract, would be Day 10. Because of our long history with your company and our trust in your team, we chose to wait and endure the lack of heat. A technician arrived on the Day 10, diagnosed the issue, and determined that a part was needed. The part was not on the truck or available at your shop and would need to be ordered. Later that day, we were told the technician had missed the 4:00 p.m. ordering cutoff, even though he left our home around 2:30, and the part could not be ordered until Monday (Day 13). we were also told that no installation date could be scheduled until the order was placed. We expected a follow‑up call that day. After nearly two weeks without heat, we called on the afternoon of the Day 13 for an update. We were told that no status was available because it was a holiday and most suppliers were closed, but dispatch would contact us the next day. No call came on Day 14 or Day 15. We called again on the Day 16, explained the entire situation once more, and were assured someone would follow up. No one did. At that point, more than two weeks after our initial call and still without heat, we contacted another HVAC provider. They arrived the same day, had the necessary part on hand, and repaired the furnace immediately. After more than two weeks without heat, we were finally warm again. Late yesterday afternoon (Day 21), we received a voicemail from your office stating that the part had arrived and the repair could be completed today (Day 22). We called back this morning, reiterated everything that had transpired, and declined service. We fully recognize the strain that extreme winter weather places on HVAC providers and understand the consequences of not having a current service contract. However, we trusted that Burkholder's would still demonstrate timely communication, concern for our situation, and the level of service we had come to expect over many years. This experience has shown that our trust was misplaced. We will not make that mistake again. read more

Brand New 1 Year old Carrier AC units cannot keep up with heat. Technicians/owners/installers might want to consider taking a course in thermodynamics to understand how cooling and heating works, because the units are absolutely improperly sized (after insisting that they were properly sized). Waste of thousands of dollars... I'll install it myself next time if I would've know it was going to be this crappilly done by a "specialist." Thank you for your attention in this matter read more

Our tech Jeff was on time and very thorough with his work. We have had Burkholder's maintenance plan for several years now and it has worked out well. Jeff took his time and explained everything of what he had done. He assured us our heating and A/C systems were in good working order and ready for the upcoming season. He was in and out within an hour and was very courteous. If we can request a specific tech the next time, it will definitely be Jeff. I highly recommend Burkholder's for your heating and A/C needs. If I could give a negative star review I would. My elderly parents had a new AC unit installed in their home in April(started the process early to be proactive) at this point the service had been wonderful. Two weeks after turning the unit on it stopped working(first week in June). It is now over six weeks later and nothing has been done to rectify the problem. We have had to purchase window units, which seems like a stupid expense for those on a fixed income after spending thousands to have this unit installed. My mother calls frequently for updates but now feels like she is getting the run around of excuses. The manufacturer of the unit was called and they stated that they have a ten day part delivery guarantee, so it should have been received by Burkholders weeks ago. At this point it feels like they flushed thousands of dollars down the toilet. It has been one of the hottest summers in Pa and our elderly residents are at higher risk, but I guess Burkholder doesnt care about that since they already got paid. read more

When we purchased our house several years ago, we priced A/C units from different companies (current one was old and we are proactive). It included an air purification unit. Burkholders' price beat the other companies so we used them. After about a year, we had a problem with a pipe running from the new A/C unit to the house and issues were added that made that not a good experience. We've had BH guys during covid come to our house unmasked, without booties (we don't wear shoes inside) and it delayed getting work done and it was annoying. We considered switching to a different company for a yearly contract, it got that messy for us. We stayed with BH and hoped things would change or we'd change companies. In 2021, we asked a yearly maintenance fellow to check on the air purifier in in our attic. It's common placement around here. Guys have to go through a bedroom closet. Unfortunately, it's also not atypical - our last house (diff. state) had an entrance to the attic through a bedroom closet and people went up there without complaining. Last year in the summer, the BH guy said he wasn't going to check on it leaving the impression that there was no need to. Later, when Jeff Carr came to check on the heating unit, Jeff went up to the attic and said the filter needed to be replaced next time (as in this visit). I ordered it in advance with his filter info. Yay, Jeff Carr was the fellow who came back - masked with booties and was prepared with his ladder to replace the filter. He's great and assured us we can ask for him for all future visits. He also said to replace the filter yearly. No other guy from BH told us this and I don't know why but that's not good. But now, I'll keep one handy for yearly maintenance. In the past, I wouldn't have recommended Burkholders (hence no review and I was frankly too annoyed to even write a bad review). I'd ask for their policies in advance and ensure the guys come prepared. It worked this time. We now have a service fellow we trust. He made all the difference in the world for us and we are thankful. Jeff Carr gets 5 stars, so BH, please keep him. read more

Can't say enough about the professional service I received. I had new central AC system installed in my home. Setting up the estimate appointment was timely. David took time to explain the different options. I always get 3 estimates at a minimum and Burkholder and 1 other company were very competitive. The other was way out of the ballpark. I selected Burkholder because when looking carefully at the proposals I was getting the higher end AC unit and air handler compared to the competitor at the cost estimate. As for the install, the install team was great. They arrived on the appointed dates and times. The crew was highly professional and you could tell they took pride in their workmanship. We called after realizing our heat wasn't keeping up with what we had it set at when the weather started getting cold, dropping 20 degrees. They let us know that they already had schedules for that day but could come in the evening and asked if we would pay extra if we wanted them to come that day. Mike came around 5 pm and stayed about 2 hours troubleshooting the system and determined that the boiler wasn't working correctly and needed a part. He was very polite, professional, and explained the situation in layman's terms which we really appreciated. He had another appointment after ours so he had a late night. The office ordered the part the next day and Mike came the following morning to install it and ultimately fixed the boiler and the heating problem. We had a great experience with Burkholder's and Mike. Now, we're very toasty! read more

We called Lande but Buckholder's has recently acquired Lande. We were told that the service call would be 95 dollars, but didn't realize there would be an additional one hundred dollars charged to us on the spot by the technician for "staying an hour" (the shortest hour in the history of house calls). WE will NOT be using Buckholder's again, but if YOU do, make sure that they explain to you, on the phone, before their people arrive, what it will cost you in excess of the 100 bucks you have already dropped just to get them to show up. read more

This review is mostly to recognize the excellent customer service of one member of the Burkholder's team. I had central air conditioning installed in my 102 year-old-home in May and to say it was a difficult job is an understatement. I had an overall good experience with definite bumps in the road, as to be expected with such a complicated install. However, Justin Zelinsky, Burkholder's "Residential Senior Project Manager" went above and beyond to make sure I was completely satisfied. He was thorough, timely and overall committed to making me, as a customer, happy. I only hope that the company recognizes and pays him for the top notch service he provides customers. I would like to thank Burkholders for being the company that murdered the joy that I was having by being a first time homeowner. My wife, infant daughter and I moved into our home a year ago and within that time Burkholders has been here 3 times. The first time I had Burkholders out was after I moved in because the AC wasn't working well. The gentleman that came out was very nice, explained things to me and added refrigerant and I was happy. A few months later my heat went out, I called Burkholders. The gentleman that came out wasn't as friendly but that didn't matter. What mattered is that he told me that too much refrigerant was in the system which caused the system to go into safe mode. This last time a month or so ago my AC went out again. I called Burkholders because I couldn't get anyone else. The van sat in my driveway for at least 15-20 minutes before he did anything. When all was said and done, he was here for an hour... I changed my filter (COVID- don't want anyone inside) and I was charged $400. Over the last year I have had them here 3 times 1. Add Refrigerant 2. Remove refrigerant 3. Stand next to the heat pump to reset it and run diagnostics. I understand that I'm paying for the education and expertise that come with these gentleman. However, I am not paying for someone to undo what the other employee did and charge me. I also don't appreciate being told "I'll give you a break on the time". We live in a digital age of cameras at every corner on every house.... do you really think I don't have the exact time you arrived and left. Furthermore, don't you think I would compare that to what I was being charged??? read more

I have never written a negative review for any reason before, but I must let other homeowners know of my experience. We purchased a carrier furnace for our 1st floor and a Fujitsu split air inverter system for the 2nd floor. We were told by Burkholder's that this was the best design for our home. After having them come back 7 times for the carrier failing we decided to call another company to look at the unit. They were quick to tell us that the unit was not installed correctly. Not plumbed or vented to specs. We had to have the unit basically reinstalled at our cost. Since then no issues. More recently we had problems with the Fujitsu, many problems. After having several companies try to fix it and fail we were hooked up with a senior Fujitsu tech. After seeing the installation and design he just shook his head and took pictures because he could not believe what he saw. The design of the system and installation had the unit so far out of specs that the unit is now dead and not repairable. He said the unit never had a chance and was completely the wrong unit for this application. After spending nearly $14,000 with Burkholder's and several thousand in repairs to both units we now must replace the 2nd floor unit. Probably gonna be another $8,000. Homeowners beware... read more

Spent $6400 on a new AC system. A week after installed, it stopped working in the middle of the night. Luckily had the installer's personal phone number and when he came out the next day discovered that a drain plug was not installed and the pan accumulated water until the shutoff switch engaged. If I did not have that number I would have had to call and talk to all these morons who man their phones. The salesman on the account essentially could have cared less. Use this as a lesson -- you have to get some kind of reliable contact info before you commit. read more

TERRIBLE, TERRIBLE company!! If I could give ZERO stars I would. Purchased a heating system from them. Completely died after 5 years. Manufacturer went out of business. Still had a valid 12 yr warranty on heat exchanger. Burkholders had the part, but would not install. Said it may not fix my problem even though the problem WAS the heat exchanger. I could go on and on with all the issues I've had with this company. Wasted so much money and valuable time!!! Also, referred a friend, their system died too and Burkholder treated them the same terrible way. These people have no clue what they're doing. Stay away from these guys!!!!! read more

We just put an air conditioning system on our old home 2 weeks ago and everyone who came to do the job were polite and professional. They eliminated most of the mess which is saying something!!! Have nothing to do with these people. I called on Sat on a long weekend on the coldest days of the year when my 7 year old furnace died. We are an older couple and the response I got when I called was that the scheduler was leaving in an hour and they did not have anyone who could help. She said that she would put me on the list but could not say when or if we would get help . We never heard from them again.Prior to this we needed a part and it took three phone calls to remind them to order the part. Two weeks after the part was installed the furnace died despite the fact that the technician who installed it said the furnace was fine. This firm does NOT care about their customers. Very disappointed with the way they operate when you need to call them for an emergency service. They tell you that if they come after a certain time they charge more (which I understand completely) but they tell you it doesn't matter WHAT TIME YOU CALL...that's an easy way to scam customers...they can lie to everyone all day, and tell everyone that they can't get to them until later...just to make more money...now other companies if you call before that special time they honor the cheaper price even if they come late (bc you called before that window) manager was rude on the phone...just go with another company read more

Our heat pump broke and it was cold! It took two days, but another company said it would be 3 WEEKS before someone could come out. When the tech, Chris, came, he was neat, polite and very professional. He explained everything he did, and showed us the capacitor he replaced. He gave us some info on work we would need in the future, but didn't try to push us to get it done immediatly. I'm very happy with the service we got. read more

My wife and I are senior citizens and live on limited funds. I approached the Burkholder sales staff with a furnace replacement request which they quickly responded. I was able to acquire a loan from the PHFA in Harrisburg and the sales staff said they would work with the state agency to complete the loan process. Burkholder agreed to fill out the required paper work. They failed, however, to let me know until a couple days before the loan process time was up that they decided not to complete the paperwork. They said it was too hard to get it done and left me out in the cold. I now have no loan to work with from the state since the process time frame is over and no way of getting a furnace from them or any one else. I have been a Burkholder customer for many years but after what they did to me I will terminate any business I have with them now and for anything in the future. Tom in Bethlehem read more

When I moved into my new house I had Burkholders come over to fix my air conditioning issue. The tech arrived and said he fixed the issue and talked me into a maintenance plan. Several days later s second tech came out and said the first guy didn't know what he was doing. He said that he fixed the problem and would be back in a couple days with the filters because he didn't have them with him. That was the last time I saw anyone from burkholders. Despite paying over $800 up front for a maintenance program, they have either no-showed or cancelled every appointment attempt since. After multiple attempts to reschedule, they said their next appt is now 2.5 months from now. They say it's not their policy to refund the maintenance fee even though no work has been done and they are either unwilling or unable to hold up their end of the contract. There are a lot of options out there and I obviously chose the wrong one. Hopefully this prevents someone else from making the same mistake I did. read more
