Comfort Generations was hired as a third-party installer through Home Depot Project Loans for a heat pump installation at my home three years ago. The installation replaced an old oil furnace, and at the time everything appeared fine. Unfortunately, my experience since then has been extremely frustrating and disappointing. In March 2026, my heat stopped working during a weekend when temperatures were in the 20s. Because it was an emergency, I contacted a local HVAC company that was nearby and able to respond immediately. After diagnosing the issue, the technician discovered the condenser had completely leaked out its refrigerant. During the inspection, he pointed out that Comfort Generations had reused the old underground line set from the oil furnace installation instead of replacing it properly. The old line ran underground, through a brick fireplace, and into the basement. Even worse, the original copper line was 3/8", and Comfort Generations had adapted and soldered a 5/8" pipe onto it to make it work. The technician explained there was likely a leak somewhere in the inaccessible underground/fireplace portion of the line set and recommended replacing it entirely with a new direct run into the basement. I agreed, and he replaced the line set the next day. The system was running again by that afternoon. However, the very next morning, the heat stopped working again and the unit would not turn on. The technician returned within hours and determined the TXV valve was likely defective and needed replacement. Since the system was only three years old, he advised me to contact the original installer because the part should still be covered under the Lennox manufacturer warranty. I contacted Comfort Generations, and they sent a very inexperienced technician who spent nearly four hours on the phone with technical support trying to diagnose the issue. In the end, he claimed the line set must be leaking -- despite the fact that it had literally just been replaced because of the improper original installation. He left saying he needed to speak with his manager and that someone would contact me regarding warranty coverage and repairs. No one ever called. After nearly two months of hearing nothing, I contacted Home Depot directly. During a three-way call, Home Depot instructed Comfort Generations to contact me. Within minutes, someone from their office called and had me explain the entire situation all over again. I was told the field manager was out of the office, but once he returned they would discuss the situation and call me back to schedule repairs. That call took place Monday morning, 5/18. By Wednesday afternoon, 5/20, I still had not received a callback, so I contacted the office again. I was told Amy handles service calls and was out of the office, but that she would call me the following day. I was also told the field manager would contact me and they would reach out to Lennox. It is now the end of day Thursday, 5/21, and I still have not received a call from Amy, the field manager, or anyone else from the company. Meanwhile, I've been forced to rely on emergency heat during colder weather, resulting in astronomical electric bills, and now that temperatures are reaching the 90s, I have no air conditioning either. After researching online reviews, I found multiple customers reporting the exact same issues: lack of communication, unreturned calls, repeated delays, and going months without heat or AC while waiting for service. This level of customer service is completely unacceptable. I would strongly caution anyone considering using Comfort Generations, especially through Home Depot. Unfortunately, they appear to be the primary Lennox dealer contracted through Home Depot in this area. read more

I don't enjoy leaving a negative review. I know there are workers who depend on this company for income. But this has been a nightmare. Comfort Generation charged me $644 to fix my heat pump, and my heat failed again in less than 30 hours. This all happened during sub-freezing temperatures, leaving my home without heat. After taking my money, they became nearly impossible to reach. I left repeated messages over several days. When the owner finally responded, another technician came out and confirmed a refrigerant leak. I was told I would be called to schedule the repair. That was on Thursday morning. That call never came. As of now, 9 days after the initial repair, my heat has been out for over a week in freezing weather, and Comfort Generation has done nothing but stall. Charging hundreds of dollars for a repair that fails almost immediately, then dragging your feet while a customer is without heat in dangerous conditions, is unacceptable and irresponsible. Beware of comfort generation hvac company. Last year they left us without heat for 3 months in the middle of winter and now no air-conditioning in the summer. We currently paid 2700 to date for diagnosis, leak check, new control board, and thermostat. They still couldn't fix the system. We had 4 different technicians and the owner come out. The lack of return phone calls and unresponsive emails are concerning. I bought our hvac system solely based on their claim of being a mitsubishi diamond dealer, and they aren't even mentioned as a diamond dealer on the manufacturer website for local contractors. So far they aren't willing to honor the manufacturer 12 year warranty. They did start a claim with mitsubishi, however the manufacturer does not have the warranty paperwork and check list that was supposed to be turned in at the time of installation 5 years ago. read more

Where do I begin? I guess I will start at the beginning. We had Comfort Generation come to our home, prior to purchasing in Jan 2020 and do an inspection of our heating and cooling system. We have an old home, so these are actually 2 separate units. Chuck, the owner, did the inspection himself and stated that although our boiler was old (over 40 YEARS)- he stated it was a very good unit and that it still had some life left, most likely a year at best. To think that he could have said we would need this replaced almost immediately, in order for him to gain a customer, he did what was right by us- and in turn gained a loyal customer. Since then we have had Comfort Generation service our units, from general maintenance to fixing a leak in the duct work, running gas lines for our stove and gas fireplace, and replace a circuit board on our AC unit just to name a few things over the past 3 years. Recently I reached out to Chuck, as our boiler would intermittently make a BOOM sound (think A Christmas Story) which would set off our smoke detector (from the dust) and scare you out of a dead sleep. Chuck stated it most likely was the furnace not "igniting" one of the sensors (or something along those lines, I'm not an HVAC Tech ;o) but he would be out to look it over. Long and short the boiler had seen her last days and we needed to have the unit replaced and decided to do our hot water heater as well. This all transpired in the span of 4 days (including a weekend)- Chuck's team is meticulous about the service they provide, and go above and beyond to ensure that the client is happy. Kudos to Comfort Generation. I would recommend them (and have on numerous occasions) to be your go to HVAC Service provider. read more

Chuck & his team at Comfort Generation installed a heat pump for central air (& heating) in my 2 story 1978 home a few years ago - they were efficient and neat and I LOVE having no humidity in my house during the warm/hot season - I do have an oil furnace but overall my oil bill has decreased and I'm comfortable in my home (my upstairs was horribly hot in the summer. Chuck doesn't oversell - tells you want you need for your size home and is very knowledgeable. Great customer service. read more

Update 3/28/20... OK so I was contacted after initially posting the initial review. I spoke to Chuck about the occurrence and he wanted to make things right. His team came out and gave it some thorough inspection and it appeared to be a symptomatic problem relative to low temperatures and it was felt by the majority to be the compressor going bad. Im disappointed that the system only lasted 8 years having researched before having it installed. Noting that these systems usually run trouble free for 15 plus years with maintenance. Chuck made it right. A new system is now installed and I now have a Diamond vendor installed system that entitled me to a 12 year warranty. I will increase this to a 5 star in the coming seasons after experiencing a summer and winter season, im sure Chuck and Comfort Generation will be there for me if needed. read more

I hired Comfort Generation to convert my oil heat furnace to gas, and to install a WiFi thermostat. They did a great job and had exceptional prices compared to competitors. They were able to work around my schedule. When I came home from work the day of installation, I smelled something weird so I immediately panicked and assumed death was imminent, but they sent someone out within a half hour to tighten everything up and the problem was solved. The only reason I knocked it down to a 4 is that the work team had no idea that they were also supposed to be installing an Ecobee thermostat and had to come back another day to complete that part of the job. It runs perfectly and I've been very happy. I am looking forward to working with Comfort Generation again in the future. read more

I'm not really big on giving out 5-star reviews to a business without having several great experiences with them, but in this case I feel absolutely indebted to these guys. Twice I've found myself in emergency situations with my heating, and twice they came to my immediate rescue. I'll admit that my initial concern was that their website didn't say anything like "50 years of success" or what not, like a lot of the other companies boasted. Ironically, this was an actual asset, because it made things much more efficient when it came to dealing with my problem, because they took the time to understand what the issues were and listened carefully to my goofy descriptions of noises, odors, etc. They didn't just come in with guns blazing, shushing me and insisting that everyone's problems are the same. My house was built in 1886... trust me, my problems aren't the same. On that note, I'll add that through the years, I've found that HVAC companies (like most service companies) aren't exactly jumping to service, repair, install new equipment, etc. on an older house. I get it, it's more complicated and probably more dangerous. The staff at Comfort Generation never once treated me like my house wasn't shiny and new. Both times, regardless of who showed up for the call - in my case, first it was Chuck, next was Shawn - he knew what he was doing, he came prepared, and he wasted no time solving my problem. Bottom line: It's hard not to be disenchanted these days by inferior customer service, a lack of expertise, and less bang for the buck. I was pleasantly surprised by this experience, all facets of it. This is how a service business should be run. read more

I'm so glad I chose Comfort Generation for this job. It was a big job and couldn't be more happy. Cy and his crew did an absolute phenomenal job fitting my house with new ductwork, installing Central Air and a ductless unit. Cy was meticulous with the duct work and blew my expectations away. His crew was super friendly with a 6 year old and 3 year old running around, all while keeping everything super clean through out the house. Cy was also awesome at keeping me updated with the progress and teaching me about my new unit. Phenomenal job and great crew. read more

I hired comfort generation to install a new HVAC system in my home which they did. Once winter came we turned the heat on to find we had no heat so the company came out and turns out the didn't install the system properly. Once summer comes we turn on the AC and no cold air. The company comes out and tells me they must order a pert and someone will contact me. Weeks go by and no word from the company BUT I found water damage in my ceiling in my kitchen. I look for leaks and nothing. On a Friday the 13th we come home to find a lot more water damage and it has spread to 3 rooms at our home. A crew comes out and finds from what they told me was the install crew cut or ripped insulation and the condensation has built up (dew point) and caused the damage. The worker used a couple of my wife's large cooking bowls and poked holes in the insulation and drained at least 2-3 gallons of water from the system that had not yet drained into my attic. He then repaired the system told me the company would repair the damage and he (Tony) left. Weeks went by and no word from the company so I contacted the owner and I was shocked when he (Chuck Williams) cursed me out because I called to get the damage to my home repaired. The company wanted to send their workers out to repair the damage but they are NOT drywall guys, they are HVAC guys and if they can't do their job correct how can they do another job correct. I wish I could leave less than 1 star for this horrible company with horrible customer service. read more

My review is solely on the salesman who called me prior to coming and after he knew we were looking for several quotes his tone changed and asked "So what are you looking for?" I answered "We want a good unit at a good price." His response was "oh you want a cheap system". I explained that is not what we want at all. I was definitely taken aback by what he said. He came the next day, his attitude their entire time he was here was smug if I only had to chose one word. He boasted about his lunches at The Shelby with the owner, how he's going to be an owner one day. And when he just threw out a number off the cuff it was significantly higher than the two previous quotes from local reputable companies. I said "wow you're coming in a lot higher with a smaller unit than these other two companies." Then he gave me salesmans pitch about how great their units are and how the can get parts. And AGAIN said "oh you want a cheap system". And I stood up for myself. I don't appreciate anyone speaking to me the way he did, let alone someone trying to make a sale. After 5 mins he gave a half assed apology and I encouraged him to not speak to people that way because it's rude. Before leaving he checked my email with me so he could send over quotes. He called me a few hours after he left, no voicemail. He called the next and left a voicemail saying that "he had called yesterday and didn't get a call back but he has quotes and to call him back to get them." If he would've emailed me like he said he would, there's a chance we still would've gone with Comfort Generations. If you call Comfort Generations... make sure you don't get "Mike L " unless you're a female who likes to be spoken down to by a man. read more

We have been very happy with Comfort Generation. Their service is excellent and Mike Reiner is exceptional. He goes out of his way to make sure the maintenance is done to the customer's satisfaction and takes the time to explain everything. We had two older units and decided to get more efficient units which were installed last month. We couldn't be happier! The pricing was fair, the installation crew was great and there is such a remarkable difference in our home. I am very happy to recommend Comfort Generation to others. read more
