After my brief encounter with an employee of Mario & Joseph, I now know why. "Hello. Do you have custom suits?" "Yes, yes we do," said the man at the counter. I was with a family member- he made no attempts to greet us or show us the selection. "Okay, I'd like to see some basic wool suits." "We don't do women's suits." "Yes, that's not what I'm looking for. I'm just looking for a tailored suit." (Although I do happen to be a woman.) "We don't do that kind of thing." "Okay, do you do measurements?" "Yeah, we do." "Well, can you measure me for a suit so I can get one somewhere else?" "No." Perhaps this employee ought to be less considered with who is buying the suit, and more with the fact that his store was completely empty on a busy December afternoon. I understand that women's and men's suits are tailored differently, but with a customized suit being measurement, rather than style-based, I did not see an issue with my request. In this market, money talks, and their unwillingness to accommodate makes me fear for their male clientele. Another establishment was more than willing to take my measurements and fit me for a suit, and that was the establishment that got my money. I will not be going back here again.
