Incredibly uptight, entitled, and wildly, exorbitantly overpriced. They think they have a monopoly on the historic windows business, so they charge in the tens of thousands for simple trim. We ended up going with Valley Wood Windows instead. Still not cheap, takes a little while, but it's high quality work, far less expensive than Burnett & sons, plus and they don't treat you like dirt the way Larry does. They are absolutely amazing here. Tons of pride in workmanship. They go the extra mile to make it exactly the way you like it. Very upfront and honest with what they're doing and what you're getting. I love the customer service. They get all my custom build stuff here. they're pretty speedy, reliable, and can do some pretty crazy stuff or just normal things, small or large jobs. We do a lot of custom houses, and I would definitely recommend them to do the custom milled siding or trim work. Very reasonably priced too. read more

Burnett & Sons sells redwood lumber & siding. Over the past few years we remodeled our historic home in Sacramento and we bought several thousand dollars worth of redwood siding from them. It is expensive, but I wanted the best, they do not let you pick through the pile and so you get some decent lengths of siding and some warped, checked, sapwood, along with the "good". We ended up burning too much of it as kindling because it was crap. Now 2 years after it was installed and painted by a licensed contractor much of it (the "good stuff") has cracks in it that need to be repaired. This has left a bad taste in my mouth about Burnett & sons. I SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND 2 YEARS LATER I HAVE TO GO BACK & REPAIR IT. read more

We got some white oak in Oregon that had been sitting in a barn since the 1980's. It was rough looking & one piece was very bowed. Tim took my vision & built us this dining table in a week. Any questions I had he answered & took the time to explain the process with me. Excellent customer service & craftsmanship. We've ordered products for years and never had a problem with the quality. However, I recently noticed a $6000+ charge on our credit card for a phone order that we didn't place. We called our credit card company and had to cancel the card over a weekend because we couldn't reach Burnett and Sons. When we did reach them on Monday, we were told that our card number was on file there and that it was accidentally billed for a different person's order, and it sounded like they would refund it. After another 4 days and no refund, Jim in the office said he thought WE could just call Citibank and get a refund. More calls to Citibank resulting in a fraud investigation finally resulted in a refund about 2 weeks later. We only received a half-hearted apology during one of our phone calls with Burnett and Sons. I still have to sort out which merchants now need our new card number for recurring payments. No formal apology from Burnett and Sons for the inconvenience. Do not let these guys put your credit card info on file. read more

Apparently they only want business from large tract home builders. Don't bother if you need a smaller amount of lumber for a small project, you will be treated like dirt. I tried to keep with my patronizing local business philosophy, but their treatment and behavior sent me to Home Depot. Needless to say but I will anyway, if I ever have larger needs for lumber, I won't be going to Burnett and Sons. read more

If you have nothing but time to waste, this is the company for you! Despite having an extremely talented carpenter in the shop, the rest of the staff is awful. It took three months of calls, emails, appointments, faxing drawings, hand delivering drawings, and still no windows. Never did actually get an estimate or any written paperwork. After having wasted this much time, and postponing finishing the actual project, we had to forge ahead with this company. Another 7 weeks and we had windows, but...they were not milled correctly, missing hardware, and some hardware installed incorrectly. The screens we ordered were delayed, then ordered in the wrong color, and don't work with the hardware. (Unless you like the window cranks poking holes through your screens.) Then the trim was milled incorrectly. Should be simple to fix, right? Running through a router would take about 1/2 hour for all six windows, as there was no detail on the trim. Not so. Despite calling, hand delivering the wrong trim to the shop, and showing the carpenter, four months passed. No word. Started calling again, and emailing. We are nearing a full YEAR at this point. Called daily, and emailed, and never heard back. Finally called and insisted on someone live to talk to. Got Fritz. He was a bit surly, couldn't figure out what window trim was, or find the order to determine how much we needed. (He was also the same guy I showed the trim to in MAY). He called back, said it was ready. Finally. I went the net day, and found a pile of UN-routered redwood. These guys have a milling company???? Fritz said he hoped it was enough, but had no way of knowing. Are you kidding me? Check the order! Figure it out! As it turns out, we were shorted 20', and had to mill all the trim ourselves. Never, never, never will I use this company again! Save yourself the torture! Go anywhere else!!! read more

If you need custom molding or lathe work done, I would advise you to take it elsewhere. We need two 6 foot pieces of exterior door surrounding made. When we spoke to the gentlemen who answered the phone on a Saturday said they were closed but he was doing some bookwork. We were quoted the setup price would be $150.00. When my wife took the sample down the setup price jumped to $225.00. It is not full of difficult cuts and angles. The man insisted this was an old piece of wood from a very old house. Well it isn't. We moved into our brand new house a little over 7 years ago .He kept insisting it was very old. Whatever! Do check out San Francisco Victoriana tho. Seems they have there act together and skip the trip to Burnett and Sons. read more

Too bad there isn't a way to give a one star review. We were redoing a house and we needed a very easy order of 12 doors, molding, base, and hardware. 3 months later we are still waiting on parts and pieces. It you like sending voice mails that are never heard much less responded to please call this place. I would rather deal with the mouth breathers at home Depot than the brain dead wonks that work here. Wow DISAPPOINTED!!! read more

What recession? Business must be booming! Wish there was an option for zero stars. Need a trio of windows replaced in a classic bungalow and called them due to their reputation as the best in town. Waited a week or so for the estimator to come out and survey the house. Spent at least an hour with him walking him through the immediate need and discussing other windows that would need replacing in time. Said he'd get back to us in a few days. Called him several weeks later to get status and he said he JUST got back from being sick for a week or more. Came out AGAIN for measurements (at my urging, brought a camera this time). Again disappeared for a couple weeks. Called again asking for status and got the "sick" story again and needed more info from the dealer. My wife called Simon, the owner, and let her know this guy wasn't working out for us. She assigned another rep to our account, he came out and spent another hour surveying the house. Another 2-3 weeks go by and we call him up - guess what? Back problems. Couple weeks later we get a call and the estimates are ready. We meet with him, review product and are ready to ink the deal. Not so fast, he says. We need the installer to verify that what he estimated can actually be installed. Wait a few days (it's now been 2 1/2 months since we started this whole process) and the installer comes out and says, Nope, wrong configuration - need to redesign. The estimator will have to re-quote a different configuration - should be just a few days. It's been 2 months and nothing. No follow up, no nothing. Can't believe these yahoos have been in business this long. I guess if you're not in the $20K+ range, they can't be bothered. read more

Must concur with M E R. Emailed them via their web form to schedule an appointment. No response. Called and was able to schedule an appointment in their showroom with Dave. Nice man, enjoyed working with him. However, he called us with pricing. I even called him a couple of days later and he sounded like he was rummaging around trying to find his notes, said he needed a couple of minutes and he would call me back. Never heard from him. Total waste of time - except that my wife and I were able to see the window style we were ordering. read more

We wanted a glass front door that would light our dark, windowless entry and give some style to our cookie cutter tract home. The process of choosing the door took us a few weeks because we wanted obscure glass with quality and style. The big box stores didn't have what we wanted and we didn't want to settle. Every step of the way Tahoe was patient, helpful, and committed to helping us choose a door that fit our needs. We eagerly waited for our door to be completed and Tahoe kept us in the loop every step of the way.
