We stayed at the Burnhouse Manor Hotel a while ago and found it to be wildly different from what their website advertises.
Our one night stay was very far from the luxury accommodation promised on the website. We were attending a wedding and as such had not chosen the accommodation personally. It may be that we were given what was left of the rooms, but even so, it certainly was not luxurious by any stretch.
When we arrived, we were shown to our room which was very small. It was not ensuite as promised by the site, but instead had a bathroom across a hallway. It was unclear if anyone else was using the bathroom, other than us. The bathroom light did not work, and several tiles were missing from the wall by the shower (which varied between freezing cold and hot), one of which was balanced on the edge of the bath. The saving grace there was that it did seem to be basically clean, although the artificial flowers in a vase there hadn't seen a duster for a long time.
The radiator had been on full blast for what felt like several months which made the room unbearably hot. The furniture looked like it had not been replaced since the 70s, with very dated, peeling wallpaper and a lot of unidentified plastic pouches in the wardrobe. There was only one pillow on the hard bed. I asked at reception for another pillow but it failed to materialise during our stay.
We could not get the room door to lock and a very surly man from reception came upstairs and showed me how to lock it. I closed the door and started off downstairs behind him only for him to close the door to the stairs in my face! How charming. I know with a wedding on, it's busy, but as one of the guests, I don't think it was too much to ask for him to ensure our room was secure.
The wedding itself was marvellous and the facilities were very good for that - a hall for the ceremony, a patio for photos, another hall for dinner and dancing.
Breakfast was served for half an hour only which seemed a bit strange, especially for a Sunday where all the guests were hungover wedding attendees! We missed that and had a cup of tea in our room - I had to wash the cups and spoons in the sink in the room (which did not drain properly, some Mr Muscle required!) as they were stuck to the tray and had not been cleaned in a long time.
We checked out just before check out time and were truly astounded to be charged £65 for our stay - definitely not worth even half that amount for the room. All in all, I felt that we were shoved in a room that had not been used for a long time and it was definitely not worth the money.
I would not return here through choice. read more
