Hired attorney Karen Burns on October 23,2018. The firm is called Burns Iwuji, PLLC. I was searching for an attorney and found them on, Fathers Rights in Texas website. My mother first spoke with attorney Burns on September 2018, which was I'm assuming the free consultation. My mother met with attorney Iwuji and was charged a consultation fee which was odd because my mother clearly stated she was there to hire them. I did google the firm before we met and at that time they had great reviews. However, both of this attorney will charge for possibly everything they can. Even the air you breath if possible. Attorney Iwuji mentioned that a portal was going to be set up. This was the way of us communicating with the firm and keeping up with charges incurred. The portal was set up a month after we hired them. I never received and invoice from them until June 2019 asking for more money because we had no more funds. First court date was scheduled for Dec; 2018 it was rescheduled. Second court date 2/26/2019, judge gave the mother more time to hire and atty. I was before the judge no more than 5 minutes yet I was charged 2 hrs. Third court date 3/14/2019 we were there maybe 45 minutes I was charged for another 2 hrs. Attorney Burns, constantly wanted to meet to go over our case. Every time we met with her we were charged for 2 hrs. Now, keep in mind we didn't know about the charges because up until the last time we met we hadn't received and invoice. I would send atty Burns emails over and over again with no response. If I called the office because she wouldn't reply and spoke them for like literally 2-3 minutes I was charged $30. I have plenty of proof to show how incompetent this attorney was. Absolutely nothing was accomplished. My daughter is still in an abuse home. I lost money and time form work. I believed and trusted attorney Burns. Now, I truly believe this firm was a RIP off. Unfortunately, I can't say to do your research before hiring anyone because I did. I lost thousands of dollars and I've also lost hope in the justice system. I pray to God every day that he keeps my daughter safe. *We hired them to have a court ordered already in place be modified. (atty made an agreement w/the mother for extended time from March -June 2019) *I have several police reports on mother for not showing up to pick up my daughter. *I have police reports and videos of mother showing up an hour late to drop off or to pick up my daughter. *I have pictures of the physical abuse *Mother was ordered to change last name on my daughter it's been 3 years and it hasn't been done yet. *Mother has long history with CPS. *And the list goes on and on. I've used this firm for counsel and legal advice over the years. The barristers were knowledge about the specifics of the law I was dealing with and possible solutions that would be beneficial to me in the long run. They were blunt but not overly rude, explained the situation and both worst case and best case scenarios and the where most people fall in those situations. Even when I asked a question that was outside of their specialty they had a network that did have a answer which lead to a appropriate response I didn't consider. I found this attorney office in the Greensheet I had never heard of them or used them before but I thought hey its just some traffic tickets what's the worst that could happen... the worst that could happen was Thaddeus Iwuji. After I paid the firm $650 I did not hear from anyone there until a week before my first court appearance (Mar 31 @ 1pm). The email I received stated I need to be there at 1 p.m. and I showed up to court at 3 minutes to one. Upon going inside of the courthouse I was very confused as to what floor I was supposed to be in or what courtroom I was supposed to be in since the email never specified either thing so I made my first phone call that day to the law office to ask the man who answered which floor and courtroom I was supposed to be in. After speaking with him me and my 3 year old son went to the second floor and went into a courtroom that was full of nothing but attorneys so we SAT there for 20 minutes and when my son began to get restless we stepped into the hallway to call the law office again and asked where the attorney was and even what the attorney looked like since I had never seen or spoken to him or her. The receptionist Lily answered the phone and said that the attorney ( ms burns) was not yet there but she was on her way and she then stated that I did not need to be at court at all that day because it was attorney docket day which is why I saw mostly attorneys. I asked her if she was sure because I had received three emails to the contrary and she apologized for the inconvenience but said yes you can go home. So then I asked her if I needed to be at the court appearance. April the 20th because I receive the email that day stating that was my next court day and I need to be there, she said she was unsure and put me on hold to ask the attorney ( mr iwuji) whether I needed to be there April the 20th. She came back to the line and said she was told I did not need to be there but he would prefer that I was there because it would look better to the judge, I agreed and ended the phone call. The next day I received two phone calls and an email from Lily stating that the attorney got the judgements from the judge and I needed to pay $240 for one ticket and $300 for the second. It was then that I asked her if it was customary for the attorney to accept a judgement on a client's behalf without first speaking to the clients, she said she didn't know but would have one of the attorneys call me right back. 30 minutes later I received a call from the male attorney (mr iwuji). He began the dialogue being very aggressive and rude and cutting me off everytime I tried to speak and let him know what my issue was. After being cut off multiple times and being called a liar multiple times I had enough, hung up on him and sent an email stating that they were fired and I will be contacting the State Bar Association. read more

I've used this firm for legal advice regarding child support laws and they were extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Family law matters are very emotional because it is so personal but Ms. Burns was great at keeping me calm, level headed and informed. She also explained the laws in ways that I could easily understand since law is outside of my wheelhouse. I would definitely recommend this firm.
