The river crossing is a real thing, but I saw all levels of age/fitness/size/canine/hooman making it, so you can too! Today there was one log. Not a selection of logs, just one. And it was alone, there was no log acting as a railing. You're in the air, friends. Or in the river, but at least it's only 1 mile back to your car in icy clothing if you tumble in. I slid across on my ass, shameless! On the way back I slowly balanced my way across. Made it. So can you! You will be rewarded. The falls are in my Oregon top 5, and I've been to Silver Falls so now you know. The walk is through old growth, lots of storm down trees but they've all been cut so they aren't blocking the trail. It was cold today, in the 40s, so the usual advice about layering holds. Even on a nice day you'll be in shade a lot of the way. Boots if you have 'em. Oh and hey! Today the parking lot trashcan was full and overflowing. If I had remembered to bring a big trash bag, which I often do, I would have picked it up. If you're feeling love for the outdoors, will you consider bringing a big gladd trashbag just in case? Mother earth thanks you.

Make sure if you are using all trails you download the map before you get into the hike as you lose service half way up the road to the hike. They have port a potty to use and good parking.

This is an awesome trail! Drive about 17 miles past Sandy and turn right onto Salmon River Road…read more Drive another 2.5 miles on a paved path to a gravel parking lot. (Technically, you need a recreation pass to park at the trailhead.) The trail starts right there. It is about 1.9 miles out and another 1.9 miles back. The path is fairly flat and it goes right next to the Salmon River. The road is on your other side but you hardly notice it thanks to the sound of the river and the beautiful forest. There are some creeks that cross the trail, so wear waterproof shoes. When I visited in December, one creek crossing was big enough that I could not cross in my short booties and with my little dog so we turned around early. Would love to come back!

There's just about a mile and a half of walking trails that are very well-maintained with rustic bridges, stone paths, and wooden benches. The trail takes you through woodlands, wetlands, and beside a stream that shelters salmon and steelhead. There's also a self guided nature tour. Though there is a waterfall trail, the waterfall mentioned is quite small for Oregon. It is lovely nevertheless.

There is one bedroom downstairs and 4 bedrooms upstairs (Note: one room only has twin bunk beds). The proximity of the cabin to local businesses and a very short drive to the mountain made it perfect for everyone. The kitchen is well stocked with cooking tools and the fireplace comes with a starter supply of wood. The hot tub worked perfectly. The living room has two seating areas, which allowed everyone to have a seat near the fire. Everyone had an amazing time and we would love to come back.

We did that twice through them, circa 2014. And, recently we were camping at Clackamas Lake for an Ultra-Trail Race in July, and we decided to rent a canoe on a whim at Timothy Lake. Once, we found out where the Outfitters were set up by the Dam, they were really easy to work with. We were able to run a credit card, and they provided life jackets- we were even able to take our doggo with us (who had a life jacket). And, the whole transaction took less than 5 minutes, and we were on the lake! It was really low key, and low pressure, and convienent. I will definitely be using this company in the future. I also would speculate some of the other reviews were for different look-alike-sound-alike company names, perhaps they were not Mt. Hood Outfitters. They are the perfect component to a great summer vacation day!

However, yesterday I went in to get a leaflet for the Burnt Lake/Zig Zag peak hike. The 60 hikes book said the hike was 9.4 miles ,but the Ranger Station sheet said 14 miles. I just wanted to know why the big discrepancy in miles. So, I thought I would ask the ranger there, and she was quite rude. Said that the books aren't always accurate. She asked in a snotty way "If that answered my question?" I didn't know what else to say but yes, but "No, it didn't answer my questions, and do you treat all people this way??!!". I wanted to say that but didn't. Well, it turns out the book was correct after all. The hike was 9.4 miles from the the trailhead to the Zig Zag peak and back. I just was so annoyed and surprised by the rudeness of this one ranger. It was an atypical experience.

Our guide Big Al/Alex was awesome. When we decided we all wanted to do the optional big waterfall, she coached us and drilled us many times so that we'd be able to raft down the waterfall as safely as possible. There was also an optional cliff jumping spot for people who wanted to get out of the raft and do that. Those of us who didn't want to do the big waterfall weren't pressured to do it & were given the option to skip it.

Schedule a river trip and enjoy some amazing rapids and beautiful scenery as you take a wild float down the Salmon river. Our guide was Victor and he was amazing. He nailed every rapids giving us the best adrenaline seeking advenruee we wanted. Our family vacation was complete because of this trip! A few things to know: - the water is cold, but they give you a wetsuit and it helps a ton! - you will paddle! and that makes it more fun - if you want a less adventurous trip - tell the guide and they can avoid big rapids. - usually i dont encourage my son to jump off of bridges but he did and it was awesome - they have a photographer situated at different spots on the river and you can buy the pics for an extra fee. It isnt that expensive and they do a great job! - tip your guide.
