I avoid making purchases on "A----n" as I believe in supporting and therefore shopping and supporting brick and mortar stores for everything I can including books. I discovered Burtons Bookstores on a visit to Greenport about three years ago and have been ordering all my books from Burtons ever since. Scott is always accommodating and I receive my order by mail in a few days or in week if it has to be ordered from the publisher. They always have good recomendations. And will order what they do not have. And the bookmarks are so handy.

Stopped in briefly to escape the heat and browse the selection. The store seems to have one single portable AC for an entire store... it was hotter indoors than outdoors and it was 90 degrees outside. We purchased a book for our daughter and left immediately. Seems like a nice place but I do not recommend anyone stop in here if you have small children or are older in the summer. Oppressively hot! so this was a weird experience. i was literally just buying a sticker and i really wanted it so i didn't want to just leave. i was gonna pay and the guy just stepped to the side to continue a task he was doing and left me waiting and ignored me. the girl came by and said do you want me to help her? he didn't even notice i was there. and someone else was waiting for their change. just a weird time. not very welcoming at all. read more

Wonderful bookshop and great staff. Big selection of most genres. It's a nice place to spend time on an afternoon in Greenport.

What an incredibly friendly bookstore. I can't resist stepping in to an indie bookstore whenever I travel, and Burton's is no exception. It oozes charm and was no fuss. They have a cute little reading nook in the used book section. It smelled divine in there. I picked up a book that the owner suggestedI visit another shop two stores down to chat with the owner about if I so pleased. Great curated selection and I loved the little reminders for patrons to be gentle with books when perusing. Highly recommend, it is such a lovely part of the community!! read more

Scott is such a pleasant young man and Burtons Bookstore is a lovely shop. Although I now live in NJ I still reach out to Scott for all my book needs. He helped us get all our books for our newborn as well! Such a great source of information. I've pushed him several times to sell stamps as well but currently to no avail. Books are well laid out with a friendly staff that is always there to help with awesome recommendations for the whole family. This is one of the best independent bookstores I have ever seen. This bookstore is so charming and well-organized. It has a healthy mix of non-fiction, classics, mass-market thrillers and local authors. There is a large number of children's books and a cool rare books & collectible section. The local author and postcard section is really great too. I asked the owner about 100 questions and he was helpful, patient and directed me to the right spots in the store. I love this place and wish it was located where i live! I will come here again anytime I am in Greenport! read more

Nice little Greenport book store is a good place to come support local vendors. They have a small but good selection of non fiction, fiction, children's and even some cook books all for decent prices. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable as well. Worth a visit. read more

Great bookstore. Very cozy. The new owner is very helpful. They can order a particular book for you. Still they have an amazing selection for a small store. The shop is very different from years past. If you haven't been here like myself in a few years don't be surprised. If you want to buy a book on the North Fork this is your place. Literally it is the only place to buy a new book. The store is an institution in Greenport and is now your only place to buy a book. Unless you want to take the North and South Ferries on Shelter Island. Sag Harbor has a bookstore but do you really want to travel all that way when you have a neighborhood bookstore right nearby. Visit this bookstore you will not be disappointed. read more
