I immediately went to Prairie State Bank & Trust and they made it all better! Alyssa helped me immediately and I was done in under 20 minutes. She took my info, set the account up, explained the paperwork, and not once did I feel rushed or overwhelmed (or like I was a bum for wearing work clothes). The entire time she was very professional and sweet. The building itself is nice and clean (even the parking lot was spotless lol). My butt should have listened to my mom and gone here first! They put us through so much hassel, and would not give us information even with a death certificate on file, they sent her mail saying she broke a contract by not paying a loan. After working with multiple people and facing the same horrific service by all, we find out....she had insurance on the loans the entire time and we were beneficiaries to it! 4 employees missed this, ignored our attempts to pay, would not help us in anyway other than to send, in my opinion, inappropriate mailings all while they were paid. Disgusting. I am pulling my direct deposit, and everyone we know is done with them. This is ridiculous.

The teller I talked to sounded impatient with me in explaining their service (her tone of voice, no smile, ways of answering, for example). She wanted to know if I'd be opening an account just for the currency exchange. If so, they "don't do that," she said. Again, the way she talked to me sounded like "looking-down-on-you" or "are-you-just-taking-advantage-of-us" to a potential customer because I was willing to keep the account for some time (to which she said, "ok"). She's supposed to be a supervisor, as the sign at the counter suggested. Her rather straightforward, no-mincing-word-talk sounded like this bank just wanted to make money, not to nurture loyal customers. I don't recommend this bank.

Does this bank charge for mobile deposits (checks made out to me deposited via the app)? ever? always? Does it charge for any other kind of digital deposit (paypal, venmo etc)? I can't figure it out - it's like they don't really want me to know about how their accounts work. Sadly, this is likely to mean that I don't find out whether it's good to bank at First State. I'm not going to gear up to switch banks unless I can find one who still has what mine used to have before it was acquired by a bigger bank. Very poor service. Ladies at the counter were rood and uninformed…read more I used this bank as a shared branch due to my bank being closed today. Went through drive thru where I explained my situation and let them know I didn't have my account number. They assured me that I was fine. Signed the check and then was immediately told I needed my account number. Now I have a signed check. I called my wife, finally get the info. I bring it in where I am then told that shared branches won't cash checks. As I began to get pretty upset and explained everything I had been through, she simply smirked with a little laugh and said "sorry" turned around and walked away. This bank sux.
