I began with a different lawyer who was reputed to be kind of a pit bull but very good and expensive. Unfortunately she (my first lawyer, NOT Emily) was also terrible to me, unorganized, unethical in her billing, wouldn't respond to my ex's settlement offer, and was slapdash in her approach to my case, not telling me I needed to respond to discovery until I only had a week left to do so. If you read her review, please think the COMPLETE OPPOSITE and you'll have an accurate description of Kathryn Philips. Anyway, I started working with Ms. Phillips in March, 2014 after it was proven to be impossible to come to an agreement with my ex-wife. Over the years I have heard quite a few horror stories from divorcees about how their attorneys just dragged out the process to make more money and cared very little for their client's emotional state during the process; however my experience with Ms. Philips turned out to be the exact opposite in both regards. Ms. Philips at all times made an effort to move the process forth to keep fees at a minimum and this was not an easy task because opposing counsel did the exact opposite. Additionally Ms. Philips was a rock during the process and more than once steadied my nerves during preparation and before going into the court room. A woman of strong faith, her insights and encouraging emails were of great help to me through this difficult process. I have never been very good at fighting for myself and would have given away everything just to get it all over with, but Ms. Philips fought hard for me, at no benefit to her, and made sure that I was taken care of in the settlement.
