I had an odd situation where several appliances and outlets in my home were randomly not working throughout the house. Essentially half my home had power and the other half didn't. All my circuit breakers were on so I assumed my main circuit breaker that splits the power might need to be replaced. I called Dave for an estimate and a possible service call. He listened to my electrical troubleshooting and advised me of the possible problems starting with the power company. To save me time and money he explained what the problem might be and advised me to have the power company come check the service legs coming into the house first. This way if it turned out to be what he suspected, it would not cost me a service call on his behalf. Bravo, and thank you Dave. The power company came right over and sure as he said, one power leg from the power company was out and the repair was the power company's responsibility. I'm sure Dave is NOT one of those contractors that finds all kinds of ways to charge people including making a job bigger than it is. He could have come out charged me for a service call and even sold me some parts while getting the power company involved, but he didn't. I had a series of outlets and the lights in one room that have been out for over a year. I put off having them looked at because we don't use the room much since my kids moved out. However, When the problem extended to the wall that BestBuy was scheduled to instal a new OLED TV, I must have called every Electrician in a 10 mile radius and no one picked up the phone but Butler Electric. He gave me some tips over the phone that got the TV wall working and said he would call me back the next work day to schedule an appointment to figure out my dead outlets and lights. Meanwhile Hone Adviser quoted mr $350 so I stopped the process. The Butler Boys arrived the next work day and fixed the issue for their standard $95 service fee. The actual electrical work was done well but if you looking for detail keep looking. They left insulation tracked into rugs, dust from cutting into walls all over my fridge, pieces of cut wire on the ground, stuff broken off my wall from pounding so hard, holes in the sheet rock that probably could have been avoided. They used the phrase "easier for them" I didn't hire them to take the easy route I hired them to make it how I wanted it. Electrical is solid and got the job done but lacking in the little details. I look for companies that do a good job and leave things the same way they found them. Sadly this is not an be of those companies. read more

I have used Butler Electric on several occasions to do small jobs around my home. Dave Butler is an excellent Utah electrician and has always been very helpful and very fairly priced. He has done work for me such as: replacing old light fixtures, hanging ceiling fans, fixing wiring issues with switches, fixing wall sockets, and many more small home electrical needs. I will probably have him back soon to set me up so I can run my home off a generator when needed. His crew has always been nice and helpful as well and the work has always been fast. He also has told me on several occasions how to do a certain thing for less money as a way to save on the bill. I contacted Butler Electric for a quote to install motion sensor lights on my mother's front and back porch. David got back with a reasonable quote within my mom's fixed income budget. An installation date was set up in less than a week. 3 electricians arrived and installed the lights. I asked for a quote to fix/remove a gutter heating thing installed by someone not an electrician. It sparked when my mom turned on so super dangerous. They removed it the same day and cost for total job was lower amount of quote. So impressed with quick response from David, good communication to set up installation and arrival time. Less stressful for me since I live in San Jose, CA and I set up service for my mom who lives in Salt Lake City. My mom said electricians efficient and pleasant. Their van with equipment was very organized. My mom can be hard to please and she was very happy with their work. Everything went smoothly. OK. You would be an idiot to use any other electrician. I'm speaking from a residential perspective. If you need an industrial electrical, I don't have the experience to recommend someone. I apologize. I needed some work done. I needed some work done 10 months later. This guy (I'll call him "Dave") came in and got the job done for half the price and half the hassle that any other electrician would have been. He's tall. I followed him a week or two later up into my attic to install a digital antennae. I don't know how he wended his way through my attic without disturbing my blown-in insulation like he did, but he did. It was all I could do to get up there, let alone fish a wire down a wall. This guy became one with my attic, insulation and walls of the second level of my home! This is a zen electrician. He's like a ninja or some far-eastern mystic! He installs switches in walls, he mounts can lights. He routes conduit behind exterior walls, soffit and siding. I'm telling you, this guy does it all and it does it at a pittance of what the guys in the Yellow Pages does it for. Who uses the Yellow Pages anymore, anyway? If you've got blown breakers, messed up wiring with outlets or switches, need a 4' fluorescent fixture installed in a poorly lit master bedroom closet - WHATEVER - you should call this guy! I hired Butler Electric for a pretty easy job a few weeks ago -- I bought a house and the sprinkler panel in the garage hadn't been wired with an outlet to plug into. Two gentlemen from Butler came out the next day, installed it in an hour, and did so with attention to detail and my easy of use. The rate was fair, and a bit less than what I expected to pay (I had no real idea what to expect).
