They are installing fences in new developments such as Shadow Glen in Caldwell and soliciting additional work from homeowners in the process. In my instance money was taken to complete a job and the work was never done. After weeks of waiting I asked for a refund to which I was told ok then after weeks of additional waiting still nothing. They are now In the wind. No work no refund ... Developer Hayden Homes can't get an answer either but still using them! read more

The side yard is at a slant and the gate swing perfectly. Details such as swing, rock, ground, water spigot etc were all taken into account when the design and placement of the gate was constructed. So disappointed in the overall product this company installed. We paid top dollar (over $7000) for two small enclosures around a dumpster. They never finished the job but INSISTED we pay in full first, and now won't return our calls. The slats were never trimmed, they forgot the gate stop (the thing that keeps the gate from flying open). The tops of poles don't have the caps and they ripped out the center divider but never replaced it and now it's sags. I could go on, but essentially, they did a half a*#ed job and vanished. I scheduled twice for an estimate for our HOA to replace fencing and add gates around our irrigation pumps. The first time no one showed up. I waited in the car at the fence site and no one showed up. When I called they told me the estimator was out sick. Fine I understand. Why did no one call me to cancel? Someone then called to apologize and said that I "just slipped through the cracks." So I scheduled again several weeks later. Again no one showed up. Forty minutes after appointment time someone finally called. I retuned call. I left 3 different messages and no response. It doesn't matter how good their work is if they never show up. The fence the Butte installed was average. What really upset me was the $435.00 of damage done to my sprinkler system; they of course take no responsibility for that. It took over four months after the closing of my home Dec31 2016 for Butte fencing to put up my vinyl fence properly! The first time they chose to put up a three ft fence!! Why?? No one knows. The second time... they cut the first fence off at the metal posts of the first fence and proceeded to make a mess of everything including the second try to install a fence right! They left it sloppy and unstable. I've never experienced such terrible workmanship!! And a company that doesn't care. So a month or so later Boise got some wind.. my fence blew over because they had not installed it properly the second time. No one else's fences fell over!!! It took weeks before they came back out to try again to do it right. Its up and standing now and they are billing me to pay almost 700$ dollars now they finally got it right. Butte Fence works with Biltmore homes there in Meridian Idaho and the owner of Biltmore .. Kevin Amar who contracts Butte to do your fence never replied to any of my emails!! Trying to seek solution. Biltmore seems to have good ratings wit BBB there...in Idaho but I will be posting my complaint on Butte Fencing and Biltmore homes soon to BBB. So my opinion.. Butte fencing sucks and so does Biltmore homes. The Owner/ Builder of Biltmore Kevin Amar didn't care to make sure it got done right. Butte had installed the subdivision fencing years prior and it was very poorly done, at least on my property (see pics). I contacted Butte sometime in 2017 about this and we more or less agreed to postpone any warranty work until after our home was built. After we moved into our newly built home, I contacted Butte to install fencing along the one remaining side of our property along with a few gates. Braeden (sales guy) was easy to work with and the install went well and was done on the promised date. Most of the work was well done but there were exceptions (as there can be with almost any job, again, see pics). The important thing is how they are dealt with by the company. I had been given the warranty guy's contact info and called and sent emails to both him and Braeden that went unanswered for months, even after numerous attempts. Further, our HOA has been trying to get Butte to do warranty work on the fencing in the subdivision for quite a long time to no avail. After I wrote a Google review giving them a poor rating for their follow thru, within 24 hours they contacted me to ask me to take down the review. I did and said I'd wait until after the warranty work was complete to post a modified review. They agreed to come out and review the work and that they would like to wait until they were out to do warranty work in the subdivision to take care of these issues to which I agreed. The original schedule for this work was November 2019. I met with their warranty guy not too long after this and pointed out the issues. He agreed at that time that they'd address ALL of them. Part of that discussion included raising the newest fencing as it was too low. During install, the guys doing the work said they placed it high enough to ensure it would be at the proper height after sod installation. After sod install however, it was too low. About 6 weeks later, Braeden called to go over the work, which by the way had slipped to December 4. He went over the work and I explained that there were other things their warranty guy had agreed to that was not on his list. He agreed to come out and look. Today, Braeden and his warranty guy came out. First thing.. work is now delayed past December. I agreed that the fence they had originally said they would raise was OK as it was, however the gate on that side seemed too low. I expect after about 2 years as the level of the ground rises (as it always does over time), the gate would no longer open, but I agreed to the "wait and see" approach on that too. I then pointed out that the gate was sagging (it's a wide gate) and pulling a fence post over with it. The warranty guy started to get defensive, but all agreed again to a wait and see. It was only slight at this time and not a visual or functional issue but would be if it sagged further. They reluctantly agreed that if it DID tilt the post, they would pull the post and replace it. For some reason, they didn't want to do the simple task of placing a brace on the fence to prevent the issue (a low $ and quick fix). We then discussed a double gate on a privacy fence which was saggin and the posts were unlevel. The warranty guy got even more defensive, even combative.. I actually thought that he might become physically aggressive (he outweighs me by at least 80 lbs). I asked him to leave my property. He refused. Braeden asked him to leave as well. He again refused. Braeden remained calm but this guy was not going to leave. His body language, attitude and language clearly indicated he wanted a physical altercation. So net recommendation is.. if you don't mind poor warranty service and changing promises on warranty work, and if you relish the possibility of a physical confrontation with the warranty manager, then this is the company for you. As a very successful Landscape designer in the Boise area I had a project that required a DOCK, not a floating DOCK. I met with Doug who was 20 min late for our 8am appointment on site. Doug was under the impression I needed a floating dock. When I told him no, I needed a stationary dock he proceeded to argue that I want a deck not a dock. Ok, I know I am a woman, a woman who grew up with boats, so I am pretty sure I know the difference between a dock and a deck. Doug, just wouldn't let it go. Finally, I said I honestly don't care if you call it a dock or a deck, I just need a cost and it built. Well Doug, here is your definition of a dock - A structure extending alongshore or out from the shore into a body of water, to which boats may be moored. In our case it would be kayaks, row boats, or paddle boards. If you do not know the difference between a dock and a deck and wish to argue than you do not deserve to have a job. Doug never got back to me so I called to follow up. I was told the bid was ready and that Doug would contact me, well that was a month ago. People on catmint have been waiting since April for fencing, people on daylily have been waiting since July. They tried to say they were out of material but yet they installed on the new phase so that they can collect the invoice payment from Hayden Homes. Imagine you finally have your dream home then you pay 11k for a over priced patented fence that absolutely no one can get and you can't even let your babies or your pets outside because there are simply post everywhere...why are there post you ask. Because now they have your money and now your post are set and only fit panels by BUTTE this is horrible. Imagine telling your little girl no you can't go play in the back yard alone or with your puppy because this new dream home sucks because Hayden Homes uses them for fences. We recently moved to Caldwell ID from Maple Valley WA. We needed to have a fence installed for appearance and to contain our dog. We had a 3 rail vinyl fence installed by Butte Fence. Throughout the process we were very satisfied with their performance. Their estimate was reasonable, the pictures sketches allowed us to receive approval from our home owners association in 1 day. The crew did an excellent job of installation and clean up. They took great care working around our sprinkler system with no damage. They trimmed a few bushes which not part of their estimate. I will never do any business with this company again. I hired a contractor to build a fence for me and we purchased the pickets through Butte Fence. We opted for the "Rustic" pickets and were assured that there wouldn't be any knot holes over the size of a silver dollar. Not only was that untrue but a good portion of the pickets were so rotted that the contractor refused to install them with his name on the finished product. He took them back to Butte Fence and explained the situation. Not a single picket had been used yet but they still insisted on charging a 15% restocking fee but assured us they were being kind by not charging the normal 25% restock fee (gee thanks for the favor?). 15% of the $1200 we spent is almost $200 that we would have had to pay this company. A while later, thanks to the persistence of my contractor, he was finally able to speak with the "Production Manager" who went and inspected the pickets himself. Seriously? Up til now they hadn't even looked at them in person, just some pictures the contractor sent, and were that steadfast on not helping a customer? When the production manager finally looked he agreed that the product was not up to standard and finally agreed to take the pickets back without charging the scam of a restocking fee. The owner, Jared, called my husband later on to apologize for the miscommunication and the trouble we'd had but unfortunately the damage is already done. Jared also emailed this morning to remind us that they're a reputable business of 22 years and since they apologized they'd like us to update or remove our review. He explained, "We do have people that try to nit-pick the rustic grade and expect them to be perfect that is probably the reason my guys were holding hard to the restock fee." So basically "your guys" assume that all customers are trying to get something for nothing or are being difficult right off the bat without even giving them the courtesy to examine the product you sold and see for yourself? He also explained that sometimes they get bad shipments from the mill and don't know until the product is opened which doesn't always happen in their store. If this is the case I don't think you should ever assume a customer is nit-picking the quality if you've known about issues in the past and 1) get a better mill that doesn't send you garbage or 2) inspect the product you receive before selling it to your customers. Either option would have prevented this scenario. And, I don't care if you've been in business for 800 years, if you give horrible customer service and have such strict policies that your employees wouldn't even bother to look at the product before insisting they couldn't help, there is something wrong with your company. And reputable? Based on what? The awful reviews I see here, maybe? Possibly the bad reviews on Google, Facebook, or the complaints I found on BBB? The only place I've seen your company mentioned as "reputable" is when you've told people how reputable you are. Telling people how long you've been in business seems to be the go-to answer for any complaints as evidenced by the comments on reviews here but that makes no difference whatsoever to the person having problems with you today and in fact makes you look worse. The call was appreciated but didn't change my mind about this company. Not only did they lose my business and the business of everyone I'll be telling about them, they also lost the business of our contractor who is new to the area and rapidly building his clientele and booking projects left and right, many of which are for fences and fence repair. Even after the apology my husband, the contractor, and I all have a bad taste in our mouths over this and lost half a day's work returning the rotten pickets, dealing with the restocking fee, and eventually having to go buy pickets elsewhere. In the end it was better that we did because we got a better quality product for less from the competitor. PS, The 5 star rating from "Jason C" that happened to pop up the same day as my review from someone who happened to get on Yelp and post their first review ever right after my negative is highly suspicious. read more

I'm giving Butte fence a one star rating based on customer service. I wanted to install an RV gate in an existing fence for access from the alley. I talked to a couple of fence companies and the salesman from Butte (I don't recall his name) sounded like he knew what to do and had the ability to do the job. I clearly explained that time was critical because my yard would be open and I have 2 dogs. I was assured that it would take a couple of days, a week tops. This is where things went horribly wrong. The work started and the crew (I was later told they were sub contractors) showed up. Loud offensive language and constant smoking are not what I would call professional. The crew asked me several questions about what to do. They clearly didn't have any instructions for the job. First the posts were set and then we had to wait for the concrete pad to be poured the next day. The concrete company damaged one of the posts and created a delay because they had to jackhammer out a section and reset the post. This was a small delay, however even with the delay over I still didn't have a gate. I called and was told it was still at the fabrication shop. This went on for quite some time. The original job started in mid Sept. The concrete mistake caused a delay until early Oct. I was told that the gate was done and ready to install on Oct 27th. Was told on Nov 8th they would try and get me scheduled for an install. Was told on Nov 10th that they would be out on Monday the 14th. Got a text Tues Nov 15th that they didnt have the correct brackets. Nov 28th I requested to speak to the owner of the company, never got a call. Was given lots of excuses. Dec 1st the install crew showed up with the gate yet had the wrong parts. They brought round brackets and my fence has square posts. The correct brackets were located and sent out. Funny that I waited about a month for the correct brackets, that still weren't correct, yet when they got here someone was magically able to find them the same day! Makes me question the earlier delay. The gate was finally hung. Guess What? I ordered a 16 foot sliding gate and when you slide it open it stops at 14 feet. Why did I order 16 feet if I didn't want 16 feet. Someone had to come back again and lengthen the tracks and adjust the fit of the gate. Also, they didn't figure in any kind of latch! I was told "most people use a chain to latch their sliding gate. Well, it's a vinyl fence! No where to put a chain through. A latch was improvised on the spot. If you like being lied to then Butte fence is probably a great choice. If you don't mind time frames being ignored, then call Butte fence. I don't understand how a company like this can manage to stay in business. I realize that my issue was over a gate, a gate that cost me thousands of dollars. They probably have much bigger jobs to prioritize, however this is my home and my dogs are part of my family. Having to keep them in a temporary enclosure for 3 months to build a gate is ridiculous. I was refered to Butte Fencing by another contractor-i needed my wood fence replace around my patio. I live in a town house, am heading to retirement and figured ok its more money but I want something maintenance free. A neighbor had them install a fence and i really liked it. So i call , the sales person comes out, i show him what i needs-old fence tore down-new one installed--its a 4ft by 14 ft job--he goes we may have to move the sides out about 6 inches but the depth can stay. Im like great--the sprinklers are on the other side of the fence , (in depth) will they be ok-sure we will use the same foot print. great-get invoice $1750, ok i need this done-heard they were the ones to go to--the sales person told me it would be a month but he would let me know. Luckily i work from home, the trouble starts with the installer showing up, without notice, luckily i was working from home-so i was there to get my pets in. Then the installer goes where do you want it-i go here-he goes noone told me we need to tear down the old one! I call the sales guy he goes "oh the company will have to eat the cost" not sure why i didnt say ok-but i go well how much more-he goes $100, i go ok--as you will see this is the only thing he remembered! so the installer starts on the fence--uhh he moved it out in depth-didnt want to pull up the posts--hit one of the sprinklers-oh thats my fault i didnt have them marked-uhh showed them where they were was insured it wouldnt matter--then he goes i have to screw this post on the siding-another thing i told the saleperson i couldnt do as im in a town house--called him-oh i forgot-they did end up putting in a few screws without my permission--then there is no latch on the inside---as he couldnt put it on there--uhh...so im like ok will hit home depot to fix it--get a "paid in full invoice" wow they didnt charge me the $100 great--then 2 months late i get an invoice when i question it the sales person goes "oh i forgot to put it on the invoice!!! i hate this guy--he is so forgetful--but for some reason he remembered the conversation-so i sent this to butte told them the whole story--sent the $100 as i wont mess with the chance of being sued or who knows--oh and everything had to be in writing--uhh the $100 wasnt-and yes i probably shouldnt of paid it for the principle-lets see if they fix the latch!! if you have them do work-make sure everything is in writting-- read more

I should have read these reviews before I hired this company to put up the fence in my backyard. They subcontracted the work and the company they hired did a TERRIBLE job on my fence. It had gaps as much as 4" along the bottom and when I contacted them about it, they argued with me saying that was expected due to the different heights of the ground. I told them I would hire another company to fix it and take it out of their final payment. Then and only then did they send their QA to check the fence. He took photos and ensured me that they would make it right. The same workers (subcontractors) were sent back out and and stayed about 10-15 minutes. They did NOT take care of the problem. I had to contact Butte Fence again and the QA came out and did the repairs himself. This was very stressful for me as I work from home and it disrupted my schedule more than once. Not to mention having to beg them to fix the poor workmanship of the company they subcontracted. I would not hire this company again to do any type of work for me. I got my porch railings installed "professionally" by Butte Fence , materials $500 and professional installation $500, they mess up my porch by incorrectly installing post, once the posts were install incorrectly I told them that they are not lining up . Installer told me that I have an "illusion" . Once the posts were incorrectly installed the rest of the installation wen wrong from 1" to 1.5" off tolerances , Butte Fence installer manager told me that its looks grate from the road , but up-close he said no one is looking. I won't do business ever or refer them to anyone. There was a lot confusion on their part because seemed like nobody spoke to anyone, messages completely lost in the abyss. They took the rough side of the pickets and put them facing my house and put the really smooth nice looking sides facing my neighbors, lucky neighbors. They then used a few sub-par pickets that were cracked in quite a few places and then a couple of really bent pickets which I'm now seeing more clear since the fence has been in for a few weeks. I had it sealed right after and the guys that sealed it even said "Why didn't they put the smoother nicer sides facing you" "I said who knows". They told me the sealant had a hard time soaking into the really rough side. They left debris/trash in my neighbors driveway for three days so my neighbor had to park on the street, he wasn't that happy about it. I even told them "Please don't leave things in that driveway, it's my neighbors driveway" but did they listen noooo. They kept blaming each other and saying they will clean it up but it didn't happen for three days. I paid my bill only because that's me but they shouldn't have charged me but half of what I paid for the workmanship that was done. My friend even recommended them not knowing and he told me he was so sorry and that he felt guilty for even mentioning their name. Long story short, you live and you learn after sadly. read more

I would never recommend this company to anyone, they have horrible customer service and do not stand behind their work. I had a large railing installed down the front steps of my home in November of 2012. In the spring of 2014 I noticed that some of the legs of the railings had literally exploded!! These are hollow metal railings that apparently got water in them over the summer and then froze over the winter, deforming the legs and causing some of them to actually split open!! When I called Butte Fence to tell them what had happened, I was told they would look into it and get back with me. I called every week for over a month, getting the same story over and over. Eventually when I called and spoke with Brian the operations manager I was told that they do not warranty water damage on their railings? This is an outdoor railing, how the heck can water damage not be covered? I will never purchase anything from this joke of a company ever again and recommend that you do the same. read more

We were disappointed with the workmanship and customer service after the fence was put up. We bought a fence with three rails. The contractor that Butte Fence hired was less than professional. The middle rail was put up unevenly along the fence. It was more than a foot off between the top and bottome rail in places. When my husband complained about it they grudgingly corrected it by hammering it to the correct space. It should have been done right in the first place and there would have been no need to do any hammering on a rail that was already put in place. These guys tried completely ripping off! I called to get a rough estimate over the phone and when I told them I wanted it done he said he would call me back. He called me back in 5 min and told me he screwed up on the estimate and would have to bump the price up.. Okay that happened but he did this three times till te price went up over $130! Over the original price! That's just shady when you hang up on someone and tell them okay that's the price and called back over and over and say actually the price just went up . read more
