While aerial yoga definitely requires some flexibility and upper body strength, it wasn't too difficult to enjoy as a beginner. Amy was my instructor, and she was absolutely wonderful and encouraging. She explained each move clearly and made sure we all understood how important it is to listen to our bodies and not push too hard. The experience was both fun and inspiring. There are so many cool tricks and techniques to explore, and now I'm motivated to keep improving. I'll definitely be back and next time, I'm bringing friends!

I was looking to get back into the swing of things after a decade-long hiatus since I quit dancing competitively, but wasn't sure where to start. Knowing how difficult it can be to find studios that offer dance classes for adults in most cities, I feel lucky that I did. I've never been a huge fan of traditional fitness classes and I've tried nearly all of them...Pilates, kickboxing, CrossFit, you name it. But I'm also not too keen on working out by myself at the gym because let's face it--it gets pretty boring. I wanted the social aspect of going to classes and meeting people who would hold me accountable to show up---and I knew my only shot at staying in shape was finding something fun that didn't feel like work. I used to find myself coming up with excuses to get out of other fitness classes that I had taken in the past but going to Turn is something I actually look forward to. It's become much more than a fitness routine for me--it's a community.

Our daughters have taken dance for about 5 years, last year we…read moretook a break from spotlight because we were not thrilled with the quality of the teaching for the price. We went back this year because the girls really wanted to dance. We just had the recital and it was disappointing 1. It was $30 per ticket because it was at the Carpenter theater 2. The dancers names do not appear anywhere...not even on a photocopy on colored paper or something 3. Some of the dances were good (Bollywood was great) but most were unimaginative, poorly choreographed and not in synch. 4. Our daughters' tween class had no discipline, kids doing their own thing, not being corrected on proper techniques of ballet or even behavior and they certainly did not learn proper ballet 5. The choreography for the tween class was similar to their preschool dance class 6. Our kids rarely missed class, and worked on their routines at home - which is when I found out that they did not do much barre technique. The instructor had no control or authority in class. It was a glorified, expensive babysitter. If they are going to charge these prices they need to bring a professional instructor. Not worth the money, now I have find another ballet place...ughh! The second reviewer is correct - the studio is quite impressive and clean; however, they are still charging similar prices to Richmond Ballet ($32 starting prices) and the teenager teaching our girls class had no control of the classroom and we were charged the same price as the more experienced instructors. I'm happy for those people who are happy, good for you but that was not our feeling. In my limited experience (I danced as a kid in NY, my girls danced in 2 companies in VA and 1 overseas) for the prices they are charging other dance studios have done better - and at least put the dancers names in the program. Bottom line to Spotlight - make sure ALL of your instructors are ready to go into a classroom - or at least have another instructor to watch and advise as a mentor for younger teachers (as we are all paying the same price and expecting the same outcomes from instructors), move to a more appropriate venue both for the level of the students and accordingly the prices, and put their names in the program - easy to fix.

They were doing pay-what-you-can pilates and dance classes. This studio is absolutely stunning. The huge windows give the space so much delicious lighting. It's spacious and has a great section for dance and then a bunch of stretching equipment. The owner was super kind and excited about the space opening soon. I decided to come for their dance class. I am by no means a dancer, but I can mirror a teacher. They advertised the classes as *no experience required.* Hailey Clevenger was a lovely teacher! She was passionate about dance and excited to teach us. However, this was by no means a beginner friendly class. We weren't able to mirror her and I'm really glad none of my friends joined me. I'm glad I had taken a few modern and ballet classes before because I was able to follow some of it, but after 30 minutes, I was totally lost and felt like I was in a dance audition. I'm excited to see if they'll offer more real beginner classes in the future, but this is an amazing space for experienced dancers who have missed their practice! I'm curious to try their pilates classes too.

I love that the classrooms have windows for me to peak in on my daughter. The recital is very well organized and at the end of the year the students are given a charm to collect. They also do professional pictures of the students in their costumes. I hope we will coming to this studio for years to come. While their ceilings are not super high, aerialists are able to train a number of tricks and apparatus. Rigging felt safe, and I love the reception that I received as a visitor from the online exchange to my in-person arrival. I trained at an open gym, and I attended a Lyra II class that was taught by a sub. I appreciated that the class focused on drilling difficult tricks, and when I asked the teacher for a progression, she offered me one that was accessible to where I am training. Everyone in the class was so welcoming, and I enjoyed my visit immensely.

I think with my prior training and cardio workouts got me to keep up with her class and not stay sore for too long! (Thanks Alyssa for the heads up on these classes haha). I love how cute the studio is. Very clean and simple. The decor is small and adorable for the studio and provides pretty much everything that you need. Only need to bring your own towel and water bottle and you're good to go! If I'm actually in RVA during the weekends, you bet your butt I'll be taking a morning class again here!

After a fairly lazy pregnancy and recovery I needed and appreciated the extra instruction! With that being said I was nervous for my first class but Christy made it easy to modify the steps. I was still covered in sweat and burned 500 calories before I left. As a new client I felt super welcome and can't wait to go back!
