Today I checked out Turn Cardio Jam Studio with my friend. She has been going for a couple weeks and let me know about a free strength class that I could check out with her. The girl at the front desk was super nice and showed me around the studio. The instructor Emily came up and introduced herself and explained a little about the class. She then proceeded to kick my butt (in a good way!) with a series of weight training exercises done with repetition. Great experience! read more

I'm so happy I found this studio when I moved to Richmond! It's become my happy place where I can sweat away the stress of the workday. I was looking to get back into the swing of things after a decade-long hiatus since I quit dancing competitively, but wasn't sure where to start. Knowing how difficult it can be to find studios that offer dance classes for adults in most cities, I feel lucky that I did. I've never been a huge fan of traditional fitness classes and I've tried nearly all of them...Pilates, kickboxing, CrossFit, you name it. But I'm also not too keen on working out by myself at the gym because let's face it--it gets pretty boring. I wanted the social aspect of going to classes and meeting people who would hold me accountable to show up---and I knew my only shot at staying in shape was finding something fun that didn't feel like work. I used to find myself coming up with excuses to get out of other fitness classes that I had taken in the past but going to Turn is something I actually look forward to. I was super excited when I saw that the Mind Body app had a free first class for this studio! It's right by my office, so I popped in after work to check out Urban Ballet. It was so fun! I have a background in dance, so it was pretty easy to jump into class as I was familiar with the terms. The instructor was super helpful though, so don't let being a beginner deter you! Urban Ballet was a great was to get my body moving after sitting at a desk all day at work, and the studio has such a fun and inviting atmosphere (shout out to the stranger who took my photo)! I am trying to make Urban Ballet a staple in my week, and I am looking forward to trying the other classes this studio offers like surf fit! read more

Wohooo! I've been to Turn a few times over the last year and it just gets better and better every time. I went to a bootcamp class this week that definitely left me winded and sore in the best possible way. Sandi, the owner, is a doll and was gettin' down and dirty with us throughout the class. Add a bangin' playlist to that and you've got yourself a 5 star workout studio! I love the variety of classes offered, the location, and the space itself. I can imagine it would be awesome to have the garage doors open during warmer weather! I'll keep dropping in to Turn whenever I feel like my workout routine needs variety. read more

I have been able to try a variety of classes here through a special I signed up for on their website. 10 classes for $50! Amazing deal for starters. Equipment is provided for you for each class if needed (Yoga Mat, Kettle Bells, Weights, Jump-ropes, etc.) I have taken the Pound Class (45 minute cardio w/ light weight sticks to todays music), Yoga, Urban Ballet, Urban Sculpt, Urban Boot Camp with this deal. For those that like Zumba or just dancing to upbeat music try the Dance Trance class!They have recently added Barre Classes! The instructors help you throughout the work outs as they are directing the class. The walls are lined with Full Body mirrors. I find this beneficial to see your body movements and make sure your aligned correctly! They are the only studio that offers Surf board Workouts in Richmond. Every exercise on the board is designed to engage your core & stabilizer muscles and shock the system to create real change inside & out. I just finished the 2 weeks for $25 offer and LOVED it! First, for that price everyone should be signing up (I already recruited 3 friends to do it with me). Second, the atmosphere at this place is just fantastic. All of the instructors are fabulous...shoutout to Emily and Adrianne who have been pushing me to my limits :) The comfort level I immediately felt among both the instructors and the clients creates such a fun workout environment. The only place I didn't feel comfortable was in the ballet class - though that's due to my lack of experience. They have so much variety in both classes and times for their one room studio that it's impressive. As with all classes, not all instructors are equal. Some push you to the limit, while others are more easy on you...while still getting a good workout. That's why the new client offer is the best...it lets you find who you like. I will definitely be back to Emily's class for a butt kicking workout!! read more

I took my first class here tonight, and it was amazing! It was a mix of hip hop and a cardio workout class and I loved it! I am dancer and teach dance classes as well as fitness barre classes and I thought the studio and teachers were great. The dances weren't too hard to follow along but were challenging enough to make it interesting! The class was way too fun to feel like a workout! Love TURN!!! As a newcomer I have been SO welcomed by the staff & the attendees. Everyone knows your name & makes sure you get a killer workout! The environment is all support. I'm not a dancer by any means but love that they have an eclectic mix of classes that can be modified to any fitness level. The student discount is amazing! I was in town visiting family and needed a place to work out that was unique and different. I'm so glad I found Turn Cardio! They have an amazing studio in Scott's Addition and although fairly new to the area, their studio is wonderful! Huge space, bathrooms, open studio with new mirrors, awesome lighting, bumping sounds, and great floors! I had a blast doing Urban Ballet (think Barre but harder and with a dance element) and Dance Trance. I know the Pound Fitness classes are always popular and there's a program for everyone. Best studio around. Super chill and not intimidating in the slightest. I get a little nervous with small gyms that I won't fit in, but not a worry here. Urban Sculpt will kick your butt and POUND is my jam. All of the instructors that I've seen are very accommodating and will work with you no matter your skill level. Totally recommend. read more

Hallelujah I have found a forever (workout) home! I've been around Richmond, I've tried yoga at various studios and barre at Richmond Barre and Pure Barre, but I was looking for something more affordable, more fun/varied, and closer to the city. Turn delivers on all these, and then some. I love the variety of classes, from Dance Trance to Pound to Bootcamp, and now yoga! The instructors and staff are so helpful and kind, and I don't think I've ever felt nervous or unwelcome coming in like you do at other gyms (especially when you're not a "regular" like everyone else seems to be!). The studio space is also a huge plus-- the floor is gorgeous, and the sound system is amazing (and pumping most of the time!!). Most of all though I have to say that the main reason I keep going, and keep telling my friends to go, is because of the diversity in clientele. There are women (and a few men) of all ages, shapes and sizes, ability levels, etc. And somehow the instructors manage to tailor every class to that diverse clientele and make it challenging for everyone. Oh-- and the Scott's Addition location is perfect! Parking on the street is always easy and the location is only 7 minutes from the Fan in rush hour traffic. I LOVE TURN!!! read more
