gee what no ten stars, because that's what I would give these delicious, we call them cold dough cookies, or kolache. Yes my mom, aunts, mother in law, all used this very same recipe.......or at least they certainly taste like that, honest. I would say baba's tasted the same, but both my grandma's passed before I was born. We are Slovak on both sides and only made the apricot, and the ground walnut kolache. I have been buying my cookies from Butter Maid for years. Living in Texas I do have to watch the time of year, so I buy dozens in the Fall like now. Butter Maid Bakery mailed me a 20%-off coupon in the mail, and I used it to order ~16 apricot kolachi cookies for $20, 8 peanut butter buckeyes for $16, and 2 dozen lady lock cookies for $20. I live only one hour away from this bakery, but I wanted to ensure that my order was delivered quickly, so I skipped the free delivery and paid an extra $11 for UPS Ground. Delivery occurred two days after I placed my order. All of the food was packaged neatly in a box, and none was vacuum-sealed. I liked the taste of all of the food. The quality of the food was similar to what I have purchased from other good businesses. I deducted one star because the shipping could have been slightly faster, and the prices are more expensive than at some other local stores. read more

When I heard there was a place that made kolache (fruit or nut rolls) near my aunt's, I made plans to stop in. My grandmother, and mom, made kolache, and I've made it several times. It is a lot of work (worth it, but still a big process.) It's not something I see in stores in Columbus, though it makes sense that it is more available in Youngstown and Cleveland. It's a nice little bakery, with cookies and donuts on display, plus a whole cooler with kolache (and more in the back.) Quite a few different flavors; I stuck with traditional ones like apricot and plum, plus a chocolate walnut. They were all good. Not quite homemade, but eggy dough, full of layers of filling. Service was great, selection was great. Only thing keeping them from 5 stars is the price: $15/roll. Ouch. But, they are big rolls, and if it's only something you get for a special occasion, it's worth it. read more

I had been a long time customer and had recommended their products to 11 others that have become customers. I no longer will purchase anything from Buttermaid Bakery. The last order I received from them prior to Christmas contained a moldy product, even though it was supposed to be vacumn packed. I was unable to notify them the day of the delivery since later that day I suffered a medical emergency. Upon returning home and getting back to normal on December 16, I notified Buttermaid of the moldy product I received. I received a reply on December 19 stating they were working on it and would get back to me. I hadn't heard anything so on December 27 I again asked about a refund. I received an email latter that day saying they were on vacation until January 9 and would respond then. On Janyary 10, I sent another request. I received an email stating I would hear back as quickly as possible. On January 11 I received an email from Butter Maid stating they would not issue a refund for the moldy product even though I offered to send date and time stamped pictures because the timeframe was too long between receiving the product and reporting the issue. If you buy from this company, make sure you document and report any issue with your delivery as soon as your order is received. Another friend of mine also will not buy from them anymore since Butter Maid's carrier (FedEx) delivered the products he ordered were damaged so badly he could not give them as Christmas presents to people as planned. Butter Maid told him to seek restitution from FedEx. He;s still fighting with them and this January 14. read more

I purchased the reduced sugar walnut kolachi. The problem is their service. I received the packaged and it's so dirty and damaged. I emailed the Butter made bakery regarding how I received the package delivered by FedEx. I took pictures of the damaged package including the damaged content and I emailed it to Butter made bakery. They sent me a return label thru email. I took the damaged package to FedEx and I asked for receipt. I emailed also the photo of the receipt to Butter made and I said to replace the kolachi or refund to me my money. I was told thru email that they will refund my money as soon as they receive the damaged package. I said, I already sent to you all the evidence that it was damaged. My Aunt ordered the kolachi kiffle cookies last April for my 70th birthday because I always teased her if she was making them for Christmas. They were an every year occurrence when I was growing up.
