The telescope that started as the owners hobby. Then the secret got out.

We stopped here on a road trip. We stayed one night to do laundry and clean our RV after boondocking for 5 days. Nice and clean park with lots of activities. The surprise was that they have an observatory with a telescope. We signed up and it was led by Dave and he really knows his astronomy. It was very interesting and has me looking at the night sky a little differently now

Never been to a better park! After a year of traveling through the southwest, I decided to stay somewhere long-term and Butterfield is the place! So many friendly faces, great activities, and incredible food! The activities crew works tirelessly to make visitors welcome. The pool is warm and the spa is hot... all day, every day. Three dog runs. Raffles at nearly every event. Really fun gift exchange, monthly breakfasts and birthday/anniversary parties. Card games, water aerobics, line dancing, wood carving, 2-step lessons! Clean. Fantastic weather. Nearby towns and historic attractions will keep you busy. Walk daily, play Pickleball or bingo! Or both! A worthy stop for a week or the whole season. Put it on your list!

We've stayed here twice. The first time was a year ago when they were nearly full, and we were given a back-in gravel site on the south side of the park near the entrance. The site was sloping downward from back to front and the stairs of our motorhome were quick high off the ground and required an additional step to easy access. We extended our stay and they were able to accommodate us in our same site. I tried to attend the observatory star viewing but unfortunately, it didn't work out because the telescope wasn't working properly. We used the pickle ball court once but it seemed a bit cumbersome to get a reservation, so we didn't try again. The pool and hot tub were out of service while we were there and we didn't really use any of the other amenities during that visit. On our second visit, it was during the pandemic and they were maybe 25-30% full in their nightly/weekly sites. We got a site on the end of the row with an asphalt parking pad and trees on both sides. We tried to extend our stay in the same site this time but were told they could only accommodate 2 extra days because they had other reservations booked for our site. They said if we wanted to move sites, we could stay longer. This seemed ironic because we were there a week and they were never more than 50% full at any time and possibly could have moved future reservations to an adjacent site. This is one of the better RV parks in the Benson area with several activities that were interesting to us. I attended the craft night that was fun and my husband was considering the woodworking afternoon activity but didn't get a chance to go. They also had a book and DVD library that we took advantage of while we were there. They have 3 dog parks and we walk our pups through the park daily on paved roads. We enjoy our stays here and will likely return again when in the area.

We had a great stay at Butterfield RV Resort. What we liked. 1) when I called. The lady on the phone was very nice and easy to understand when we made our reservation. 2) they offer a military discount 3) the park was very clean 4) our spot was almost level 5) everyone staying there was super friendly Things we didn't like 1) the sound from the trains was very loud. We could hear the trains blowing their horns all night. 2) the WiFi strength wasn't very strong. Overall we had a great stay with our fifth wheel and our two sons under two years old. Road was wide and each spot had a lot of space and pine tree.

As someone who stayed up late to watch Starhustler on PBS, easy astronomy always tickled me…read more Unfortunately, I never had the math skills to really study the heavens, but continue to seek out an understanding no matter how elementary. For those of you who don't really understand gamma rays or any other rays for that matter and are concerned about feeling ignorant (join the club!), I can reassure that this place's exhibits speak to basic knowledge of scientific principles. There's a really interesting exhibit about the weight of planets in soda cans. So simple, yet effective. There's another interactive that demonstrates wavelengths. A topographical map of the Santa Rita mountains is touchable (and very nostalgic of a 1980s science classroom). Visiting this place made me feel smarter, but more important, it made me want to keep looking up! Notes: no AT&T cell phone service; video requires requires at least HS science knowledge; exhibits are in English and Spanish; the view from the base is stellar. Hours 8:30-4:30 PM

So we only visited the visitor's center, which was well worth the short drive from Green Valley. The road is excellent, so no worries in that regard. Norm the docent was on duty, and he is a wealth of information. The place was not at all busy on a week day, so Norm gave us a personal tour with lots of anecdotes. The exhibits are limited, and Norm showed us an old video of the early construction days which is not normally shown. Also, don't miss the nature trail walk, and you can bring along a picnic to enjoy at one of the tables on the trail. Small assortment of souveniers also available. Suitable for elementary age children too. Easy to spend several hours here. No food or drinks available. Clean restrooms both inside and out.
