We stayed here two nights while visiting the Saguaro National Park during my kiddos' spring break. I just have to say the bathrooms were probably the cleanest KOA bathrooms I've seen, and we have stayed at a lot. The laundry room was also pristine! Our favorite though, was the staff. They were very kind and helpful, which as a mama traveling solo with two kiddos is beyond appreciated. An unexpected storm with freezing rain came through and they even reached out to make sure we were going to be ok, and helped us out. It looks like they are putting in a brand new pool too, so it's just going to get even better. We would definitely stay here again!

Review Highlights - KOA Journey

We were at the Benson KOA for two nights recently 4//18-19/2025 - stayed in the back of the property, lots of shade trees, lots of room to walk the dogs.

Butterfield was our winter home for 5 years. We loved it there and met and made many friends. When…read morewe got there this year and we met Jeff and Tammy the new managers. They were great for a while, then they cut karaoke, as it was done on a volunteer basis, because of head clashes with activities Director Vickie, then yoga, over excuses. Then if you asked about these activities they wouldn't speak to you. On the website it says you must be fully self contained, but they have been letting people in with converted vans, they were not self contained, dumping pitchers of urine down the drain, throwing the number 2 in the trash, not saying anything for trash being outside for 2 days in a pile, but yet we are the problem They will say that we broke rules, accused of my wife using the pool, though she hasn't been back since we left. They say we keep coming back to harass workcamping staff. None of that is true. The ones who left have been coming for years and have many friends in the park. Friends that have became family. We have lots of friends, some who no longer can get help from me as I got banned. For lies of speeding and using pool. Not true, at our new park we have a pool, why would I speed where many Friends live, why would I jeopardize that. But that was in email. We were told all guest must be approved by management, but they had open invitation to karaoke, at dances they let public come, as well as bingo. They changed the park for the bad. If you disagree with them you are considered hostile. Her favorite line is end of discussion before you get to ask the question. We moved to another park because we couldn't wait until May 7th to see if we were going to be allowed back, all of my docs are in Tuscan, as a disabled combat veteran I need to know I have a place to stay for the winter. They did away with the right of first refusal going away severely hampers patrons quality of life. And creates a lack of guarantee for the park of 6 months worth of income. They have so many work campers right now that it's crazy, they are having people fix and paint picnic tables. For 172 sites that's about 2 weeks work, they have 2-3 people doing maintenance most days, They have trimmed the trees and they look good. I miss being at Butterfield but I can't stay in a park where the manager won't take a few minutes to answer questions, and only hear one side of the story. Like I said they were great when we first got there in October. She will say we are part of a group, we are not part of a group, I do things because I want to not because I am a following someone, I would probably be leading the way. But she won't even open the dialogue with me about the lies that were said about me It seems like once you leave the park they consider you no longer allowed on the property, even if to visit friends. The person they are visiting, gets in trouble as well for rule number 24. I am sure she will respond with things that I have previously stated. What went from a great park to a not so great park I will miss Butterfield and already do. Yes I left under my own accord I am not part of a group I hate great people getting treated badly.

This park is very clean, nicely landscaped, has good hookups and includes amenities including an…read moreobservatory, gym, pool and wood shop. The staff are friendly most of the time. They charge LP fill by the number of gallons put in which is nice. Some parks charge a fixed price. If you are a light sleeper know that the trains go through here 24/7 and blow the horns multiple times. It is no issue for us and the park has no control over this but it's reality. Overall 4 stars though there are some points that they could improve on. 1/2- The website shows only paved sites, most are gravel, and the listed price is incorrect. They should add many pictures of gravel sites and change the pricing. They said the rates went up 1 April and would update the web page though days later it is still showing $50 rather that $60. It takes fifteen minutes to change this. 3- Our spot using auto level has one tire an inch or so off the ground. We tried several orientations. We've seen other coaches with auto level here and some using blocks under the tires to mitigate this. 4- The picnic table needs new boards. It's wobbly due to decay. 5- When using the wireless login there's an explanation that there are two choices; free not suitable for streaming, and a $30 upgrade that is. I'm streaming with the lower speed which I clocked (engineer). They could point to their internet provider but it's their contract.

Bobby, the owner, since day one hasn't spoken to me with any kind of respect. As I was moving in, he and the manager, Linda come and start bitching at me, in separate visits. It's not like I was sitting around doing nothing. I was working on organizing everything. The next time he comes to bitch, he tells me I cannot use a brand new tent for storage. I have an electric scooter, rv sized clothing washer/spinner, bbq stuff and a Red Bull party cooler. When I asked Bobby if I could get a storage shed, before I could finish my sentence he barks ,"No." Then asks if I'd read the rules. Oh, the rules I was handed on my 3rd day here?!?! Yes. And the word, Tent doesn't show up once. But what does show up is that I'm allowed a shed like my neighbors. Of course, I won't mention the crap around other people's rvs. Including a large tool trailer on wheels. I tried talking to Linda, who says, you told me you weren't bringing Any of the stuff outside your trailer when she came by to look at my trailer at my last spot to decide if it looks nice enough for their park. Well, I said I wasn't bringing all of the stuff that was outside, and the fact I was packing up the last of my stuff and taking down a dog kennel! She gave me spot 12 on the end so I could spread out! But I was yelled at several times about making my fence smaller. My neighbor on the end across from me has a bigger fence! If you drive around the rv park, you'll see torn and tattered and sideways awnings. Appliances in the middle of yards. Dilapidated Mobile homes, trash and furniture stacked outside of rvs. Bobby has threatened me several times to throw me out! The Free WiFi advertised....zilch! Doesn't even show up on the available wifi list!! Their ad also says "FUN FRIENDLY ATMOSPHERE " & " WE TREAT YOU LIKE FAMILY' Well, whomever wrote that must have had a horrific childhood to consider this disfunction as Fun. And if my family treated me the way they do. . I'd have left home at age 10!!! And the advertised FREE CABLE.. PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE!! They also have the gall to call this place a retreat!!! WHO ARE THEY KIDDING?!?!? If the owner wants to make the park look better, how about moving his big box truck advertising his Plumbing company!! Or maybe kill all the red ants which have invaded the whole park!!! Or maybe not park the semi truck with the oversized load that's blocking the entire park every evening!! But no! They need to harass the 55 yr old terminally ill, disabled lady! I would never suggest to ANYONE, to visit this rv park. And for a town with nothing going on in it for tourists or otherwise. $89 for their tiny motel rooms. Ugh! After one month, I get eviction notice.

Everyone is pretty unfriendly, very passive-aggressive neighbor. Doesn't feel real safe here. Do have a big outdoor space that I would love to improve, unfortunately between the dogs barking insesently and the their owner, I'm unable to enjoy that space. Now like everyone else, I stay inside. Yuck ! Love Benson, but not the Quarter Horse Motel/RV & Trailer park.

Also, basically nothing is allowed in the cave. They had lockers that takes quarters but as far as I saw, no machine, you have to exchange with cash soooo prepare ahead. Leaving things in the car felt some what okay but not my favorite. I would appreciate if they had more security. They say they are not government funded so everything comes from public support. This was such a cool experience. You can tell the amount of work and detail they've put into the cave and preserving it. Truly different than other caves I've been to. There are two different parts of the cave you can choose from. If you can't do both my preference was the big room tour. I felt there was more to it, more things to see. Also, (sorry parents) perhaps the age limit made it more enjoyable too. Our tour guide Charles was INCREDIBLE. We did both tours back to back 0945 big room tour and 12 rotunda. Timing was perfect. Enough time to use the restroom and eat a snack. We brought our snacks, their cafe was closed. It would be an enjoyable experience to eat a packed lunch outside not sure if it's 100% allowed. Beginning of April was a GORGEOUS day. There's a McDonald about 12 min away. The big room tour is a man made/marked out, well paved easy walk/route. If you're worried about endurance or handiaccesible, it seems very accessible. The rotunda seemed a bit more incline but still well paved. You can wear white shoes and you wouldn't get dirty lol. I don't recommend open toes shoes/sandals because the Floor is very moist/wet. BOOK AHEAD. At least 2 weeks ahead to get the slots you want. If you're by yourself then a lot easier. It sells out quickly Restrooms were very clean and plentiful. As you wait for your tour guide before taking the tram to the cave there are another set of restrooms so that's appreciated. They want you to get there 30 min before. There really wasn't anything much to do ahead, it's just a simple check in. They have a mini museum that's nice to look around. You can get some good pictures outside prior or after the tour. Are both caves a must see, my bf says yes. I'm in between. If I would go back I would choose the big room tour again but that also has limited time opening due to the bats. As an AZ local or visiting this is a very enjoyable spot

Our caving group was having our winter conference here and it was really nice to use the visitor center's auditorium for our all day presentations. I learned about the invertebrates that live in caves, herpetology, bats and lots of other really fun topics about caves! Auditorium was very comfortable and all the IT worked great and the projector and acoustics were perfect. Seats also very comfortable. Later that day, some of us signed up for the headlamp tour of the Big Room that started at 5:30pm, which is only offered on Saturdays in the fall/winter. I was able to use my own headlamp and helmet. This tour is $50 and the price is higher than their regular tours, which is $30 for adults and all the lights in the cavern are on. The tour was good and I'm glad the proceeds of my ticket go to support this park. Phones aren't allowed into the cavern, so I took no pics. We also stayed in one of the 4 cabins on the campgrounds and it was fabulous. Cabin was super cozy and can sleep 6, one bed and two bunk beds. Cabins also come with a dining table, microwave and small fridge. Bathrooms right across from the cabin. Porch on the front and also a picnic table available. Fire pit also available. I had firewood but we could not make a fire because of rain. This was definitely glamping! And it was lovely. I would definitely do this again. Saw some fun turkeys too! A few things to note here, there is a Bat Cave Cafe on site open 11am - 2pm, however, it was difficult to get anything here as there was only one person working and a lot of us here. I brought my lunch from home. Night headlamp tour was fun but for $50, not sure how it differs from the day tours. But, do know that AZ state taxes don't go to supoort this park, so your tour ticket supports this park, so I can be OK with that. Its pretty amazing that two college students crawled their way thru a 10-12 inch sinkhole and then found this place! I am still in awe of this amazing discovery! And this is well before all the fancy equipment was available like lidar to help with uncovering new caves. And, once these guys, Tufts and Tenen found this cavern in 1974, they kept it a secret for awhile to protect against vandalism and damage. And in 1999, the cavern was open to the public. As someone who deeply loves caves, seeing this place was like one of the best sojourns for me! Im so glad I came to see this show cave! And please, let's all do our part to make sure caves are conserved so we can all enjoy them for a long time to come.
