Just returned home from our trip from Wiiliamson NY to Arizona. Stayed almost exclusively in KOA's, 18 altogether, and by far Benson Az Koa has to be our favorite. Perfect location for visiting Tombstone, Saguaro National Park, Kartchner Caverns, St. Raphael in the Valley,Texas Canyon in Cochise County AZ, Chiricahua National Monument all within an hour to 1 1/2 . Plenty of restaurants, the best was Horseshoe Cafe. Grocery shopping & Walmart within 5 to ten minutes. Sandra & Michael are the best hosts. Sandra was a wealth of information on the surrounding area & Michael was a perfect host with some comical stories. The bathrooms & laundry were spotless & in great shape. Sunsets were amazing. Don't know when we will be back out that way again, but if we are this is a definite stay for us. PS: make sure you ask Michael about his thoughts on Sasquatch read more

We stayed here two nights while visiting the Saguaro National Park during my kiddos' spring break. I just have to say the bathrooms were probably the cleanest KOA bathrooms I've seen, and we have stayed at a lot. The laundry room was also pristine! Our favorite though, was the staff. They were very kind and helpful, which as a mama traveling solo with two kiddos is beyond appreciated. An unexpected storm with freezing rain came through and they even reached out to make sure we were going to be ok, and helped us out. It looks like they are putting in a brand new pool too, so it's just going to get even better. We would definitely stay here again! read more

We were at the Benson KOA for two nights recently 4//18-19/2025 - stayed in the back of the property, lots of shade trees, lots of room to walk the dogs. The place is a bit rustic, but we had all the services we need - good showers, excellent laundry room, friendly staff, close enough to the I-10 but far enogh away so there was no noise. Worth zero stars. Worse campground I have ever stayed at. A ghost town of dirt. Swimming pool is an empty mud hole in the ground. Both pond and frog pond are empty holes. Almost no trees and everything is gravel and dirt. No hot water in the women's bathroom, ever. No activities. No club house (used as storage). Stay somewhere else. read more

It's currently a work in progress. Great location to Tombstone. The bathrooms are brand new and very clean. The club house is due to be done soon. The pool we are being told will not be down until the end of winter. The power and water to our site were great. The grand kids did enjoy the play ground. Little for the kids to do currently although they did enjoy the out put golf. The entrance is down a dirt road which we were fine with. The lot is manly gravel. The site staff were great. As they say a work in progress. We enjoyed the views of the mountains around us and the quiet of the park. Once done will be very nice and hopefully lots for kids to do. I stopped for propane and my car died. The owner came with a portable charger and got my car started and let me know it was a loose cable. Tried calling AAA and they had no one in Benson that could come out. These people have always been terrific and service with a smile. And apparently others must think so because the park was packed! read more

This one is kind of a sleeper... I was here two nights, a day off from travel, and found that it really met my needs. Clean, internet worked well (unlike some KOA), and mostly the couple who run it are fabulous. Friendly, helpful, informative. And, it turned out that Benson was an interesting community with good services. Hopefully I'll be back some day! read more

I stayed here last year, the pool and the jacuzzi were functional, not this year. I get that the new managers have only been here for a couple months, but the prices, WOW. Don't charge for cable that is unwatchable, static and grainy pics. $47/night for a back in, same price as a pull through, why???? Other amenities....there are none, oh...yes, they have a laundry room. I wouldn't want to stay there in the warmer months, stagnant pond a potential breeding area for mosquitoes. Managers are very helpful and accommodating, the people in the park are friendly and kind. I don't think I'll be returning next year, too rich for my blood. It is a good 'port in a storm' though~ read more

To be fairly honest, this KOA isn't bad. We stayed here over night and it was really peaceful and quiet. The people are nice. They were doing too many "Renovations", The pool is now a hole and the ground and you can't even go explore the park. They told us that there were holes everywhere. My son wanted to play "mini golf" but they didn't have that available either. The reason I say it's not bad is because it's peaceful and It has a beautiful sunset view. It would be better if there was actually stuff to do if the "renovations got completed". read more

I would have given this a 0 star if that was an option!!!! We made reservations over a month ago. We got there to dirt, hook up poles and safety cones marking where the camp spots are located. There are tables, nice tables (the only thing nice there, although not once did I ever see anyone come clean tables as people left) They knew we would be bringing in our fifth wheel trailer and would need a place to park our truck. Nope, no place to park except on the road. So we pulled the truck in as tight as we could to the front of our trailer - mind you, the trailer across the street had the same issue. Every night we were there, large motor homes came in around 6:00pm and started leaving as early as 5:30 in the morning, so this meant my husband would have to get up, pull his truck around the park so that the people next to us could leave. He then would park in the spot there trailer was so that others could get out. Then one morning, we were told by an attendant working, very rudely that we needed to move our truck, this was not a parking spot for us. I explained what we had been doing every morning so that others could get out without problems, she argued saying that there was plenty of room until I pointed out that it is impossible for someone to make a turn out of these spots with two large trucks parked on the narrow road without hitting one or the others trucks. I also pointed out that we made reservations for a week and they put us in a smaller spot and not one of the larger spots like the outside or ends where people could get around better. Not only did we have this issue, but the spaces were so so tiny that you had to pull as close to your utility poles as possible so that you had a small space to put a chair outside. The first night we got in, we put our rug out, it's a 9' x 12' that we set up under our steps. We had no room other then to put the rug partially under the people's pull out in front of us, so my guess is, we may have had a s much as 8' between our trailers, that is not including our slide out. The attended did come back to us saying that it might be a good idea for us to try moving our trailer closer to the road on either end, may this would give a little more space to try to pull the truck off the road a little. I pointed out that we were already end to end to the road. She said "yes I understand, we have a fifth wheel trailer too", I am still trying to figure what that had anything to do with any of this! Needles to say, we took her advise and hooked up our trailer, we didn't move it forward or back, we moved it completely out of there and found a wonderful place 1 1/2 miles away named Butterfield RV resort, cheaper by the night, clean, clean, clean and the people are so nice and accommodating. My only regret about this place is, we didn't start out here. We have done a lot of traveling and Benson KOA camp groans is by far one of the worst we have ever stayed at, on the other hand Butterfield RV Resort is one of the nicest by far. I hope this review helps others when coming to this area! read more

The park is going through some renovations and they can't get a contractor out to remodel the bathrooms and showers, which is why they are not available at this time. Overall it is a good place to stay. The electrical,sewer, and water lines have all been upgraded, so they are working on the things that are important. Pads and fairly level (I didn't have to use my jacks) and the location is close to I-10. Internet is slow but they are change of companies at the end of 2020. The pads in front are for the longer RV while the pads in back of the park are for shorter RVs but it looks like a 30 footer should fit. Also there are numerous trees in back and not any up front. Again, all due to the remodel. We live in Phoenix and this is a great place to park and have access to Kartchener Caverns, Tombstone, and several wineries all less than an hour from this Park. Drive from Phoenix is between 2 1/2 to 3 hours. And all on I-10. Not bad at all We will be back in January. read more

This campground is pretty run down, but the owners and help are very accommodating. My site had overgrown tree branches and the maintenance guy immediately got a saw and a ladder and cleared them so I didn't have to listen to them on the side of my unit all night. Spot was fairly level. I know the owners may not control the disrepair of the road leading in, but it is horrible. A maintained dirt road would have been better. read more

Easy to check-in late at night, but horrible to try and get in with a longer RV. Sites were not very nice. Husband went to take a shower and there wasn't enough water pressure at their showers for it to come out anything more than just a drip, he gave up and he never gives up on a shower. The road is short going in there, but rough. I wouldn't stay there again. So glad it isn't one of our stops on the way back. read more

Once a month or so, we need to leave Tucson. Just go somewhere where it's a little less busy, I'm sure you know what it's like. And we always, always stop here. Benson itself is a pretty charming little town, and I love the KOA. I actually didn't even know they existed until Richard called me at work one day and asked me to ask my manager if I could leave my car overnight because he was going to pick me up. He brought me a packed bag and drove me into the middle of nowhere then into a little town. The people here are so helpful. You can buy boxes of wood for $8, and they have actually gone outside into the really cold weather to chop more wood for us. They are very nice people and really do go out of their way to make sure we are comfortable and have things we need. Also, I am a clean bathroom freak. I hate public bathrooms. With all of my heart. The bathrooms here are actually very clean. The could maybe do with some renovations, but they are very clean. read more

First off, some of the nicest people run this KOA. The sweetest couple with such kind hearts. They are helpful, smiley, hardworking, and cordial. However, this campground is just kinda gross. It's old, rundown, and there are even some folks who live on the grounds who keep the place like a dump. Old wood and just "stuff" piled all over the place. A little disconcerting. The grounds are also a little overgrown. Not treated well and infested with all types of critters. Tons of ants surround the tent sites. We had to buy any spray to get rid of them so they wouldn't crawl all over our tent and us. One plus are the restrooms. Rather nice and have full-service showers. Not the dorm-y type that you see in other KOA sites. Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. Just a little too uncomfortable. read more

By far this is the worst KOA I have ever stayed in - ever! Do not be fooled by any previous picture. This is not a manicured place. There is no grass as it appears so in the pictures but only weeds, and weeds with lots of sticker. Not only were our dogs getting stickers in their feet but we carried them in and they were all stuck in our carpet. We saw a couple pull in at about 7:30 PM last night and apparently were so disillusioned that after they started getting out their cords and his sewer lines they pulled out hadn't been here longer than 30 minutes. Nothing is mowed- it's a wreck. I only gave it a 2 because the bathroom were spotless and the woman running the place was nice. read more

I have mixed feelings about this one. As most reviewers stated, the owners were nice. Their English was a little broken but not a big deal. There is no check in or check out time listed on their website or in the confirmation e-mails so we rolled in around midday. We were told that we were early but nevertheless, we were grateful that they let us check in. There are no discounts and there is a $5 additional fee per pet. The owners allowed us to pay only one pet fee since our pets are so small. Our cabin was okay. There were fitted sheets on the bed already, but they seemed a little worn so we used our own. The curtains were unfortunately stained. An old TV and mini fridge were available. The TV had so much white static, it was useless and the fridge wasn't plugged in so it took quite awhile for it to cool down once plugged back in. The air conditioned work though so that's a major plus! There was also complimentary soap and shampoo. WIFI sig was good. The grounds themselves are a tad unkempt. Inside the main check in building there was a former glass cooler filled with wood and other random things. Outside there was a building with the same thing, wood and random junk spilling out. A few people lived on the property in their RVs. The worst though in our case was the bugs. You could tell the area hadn't been treated as the mosquitoes were atrocious, ants everywhere, and swarms of gnats. Don't get me wrong, I love the outdoors and traditional camping but I don't like itchy welts all over my arms and legs either. You were just bug grub if you stood outside too long. We did see a water snake and a huge crane (the bird was pretty cool) in the on-site pond. We also saw literally the biggest bull frog I have ever seen in my life near a shed. The rest rooms were older but very clean and in the evening there was music playing in them. I found the slow, instrumental music a bit creepy when I went to the bathroom late at night but I also understand in some Western cultures, bathroom music is common so maybe that was why. I'd say if you are in a RV, you'd probably have no problems. Although I have experienced better KOAs, I felt like the price compared to other local hotels was much less expensive. If you just need a place to sleep for the night or are exploring neighboring towns then you can probably deal with it to save money. I'd give this a 2.5 star rating if halfsies were available. This kampground is located near several attractions like Kartchner Caverns and Tombstone making it a nice location for a short stay. The grounds are clean but overall could use some TLC. It appeared the grounds are used by a lot of people as an overnight stay as they pass through the area but I did notice a few sites were accupied by longer stay residents. We stayed during late fall after the park trees had lost their leaves so it definitely felt like a desert. The grounds were very quite during our stay. The park is also fairly dark at night making the view of the night sky quite enjoyable. read more

First time staying here. The owners are the nicest sweetest people ever. The place is older but very clean. Bathrooms and showers were spotless. Good location that's far enough for the I10 yet close enough to town. Read the comments about the road and was concerned. The road leading in is paved and has been patched. You will want to go slow but no concern of damaging anything that's for sure. The road in is only about a 1/4 mile long read more

We recently spent 3 nights in this campground, our first KOA experience. We enjoyed it and would stay here again if in the area. The campground spots are very open and on the smaller side, but I think this is a trademark of KOA's. Each site had a picnic table and only a few had, "fire pits." For entertainment there was a 9 hole mini golf course, a playground, and a pool and spa. I think I may have also seen horseshoes and there was an entertainment room, which looked like it had not been used in a long time. The bathrooms are clean, but old. I had to remind myself of the difference a few times! They have classical music playing in the bathrooms, which is a cute touch. The hot water is very slow to come out, especially in the mornings. The owners, a husband and wife, are nice and accommodating. The husband is quieter, perhaps because he isn't confident in his English. His wife is the more outgoing and friendly one. They sell propane on the premises and the price per gallon was cheaper than the truck stop down the freeway! read more

I went into the office in the morning to get my receipt and to my surprise was given a discount since I was a single traveler. Who does that? Without being asked?? Wow. What a great KOA. Just the PERFECT distance from the freeway. Close enough to get to quickly, but far enough to see beautiful stars and not hear the highway traffic. Very courteous when we spoke with the office to make our reservation. We asked for wood to be placed out since we were serving after hours and they delivered it to our campsite. Our cabin ("rustic Kozy Kabin") had amenities many KOA cabins do not. Including mini fridge, mini TV, tissues, clothing hangers, little hand soaps, and fitted sheets on the mattresses (a HUGE plus!). Also includes heater (which they turned on for us before we got there) and a/c. The owners collect newspaper to pass out to guests having camp fires. How incredibly thoughtful. There were festive lights which made it really feel exciting when we arrived. It actually makes me sad that there are any negative reviews, because I feel like if you know KOAs, you will recognize this as an exceptional one. We have stayed in Kozy Kabins in many many states, and this was by far our favorite. The only negative feedback I have is that there is only one bathroom, but I think that is bearable, and the shower was absolutely freezing even though I left the hot water on for about 20 minutes to heat up (admittedly it was like 32 degrees out). read more
