My daughter and I came for the first time today. We had a great time and learned a lot! The owners are very friendly and incredible knowledgeable. The atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. We saw tons of butterflies and caterpillars and learned about their lifecycle, different plants they like, more about their business etc. To finish our visit we spent some time in their gift shop and my daughter and I picked out some great things. The prices are very reasonable and they have an amazing selection! Books, toys, magnets, clothes, jewelry, stickers/tattoos and more! I have to agree with Melissa on her review. I opted for 1 more star, as this gentleman and his wife are passionate about what they do and have. I am no way disrespecting the hobby, but that is really all this is, a hobby shop. The website and brochures are nicely done. The gift shop has a nice selection of butterfly themed merchandise. However, the butterfly collection is extremely small. I didn't mind the $6 to help keep the dream alive, however, I drove about 45 minutes to get here, honestly, there just isn't enough to justify the drive. I am have been to 3 other butterfly exhibits around the country that were nicely curated. The butterflies were also allowed to interactive with the guests. As Melissa stated, this was not allowed here. I truly wish this family success in their endeavors. read more

I had high expectations before I went and I planted this idea in my head that I would be walking through beautuful gardens filled with flowers and shrubs and the butterflies would be flying around and landing on me, this was not the case. Butterflies of Cape Cod is a very small quaint place. You walk into the gift shop and purchase your $6 ticket. Than you get a list of butterflies that they have for viewing. You than walk outside the gift shop back door and enter the backyard. Once you get outside in the backyard you follow a butterfly path and you'll see an enclosed butterfly sanctuary like structure. You go through the structures door and enter it. Inside there you'll see numerous educational postings with butterfly information on them, hanging flower pots above your head and a glass box containing pupas. The butterflies were out of reach as there's no walking through their area to go over to them. Some were hanging on to the flowers in the hanging pots above my head, some would fly over my head and in my face from the closed off section where they rest upon the screen, on top of flowers or where their fruit was placed. I spent approximately about 20 minutes taking pictures and talking to one of their employees. The employees are amazing, professional and helpful. They're very knowledgeable about butterflies and I learned things about them I never knew. Even though it's an extremely small butterfly place it's cute and quaint. I find this place great for adults and especially for children as they would learn some wonderful education about butterflies and how to respect and love all of YHWH'S (Creator/God) creatures. read more

I love this facility and always suggest to folks in the area that they visit it since they have the most variety of native butterflies around. (And I always tell folks to ask the owners about all the wonderful native plants you grow there.) Always so fun and educational and the gift shop is lovely, I often go there in the off season for Christmas presents. I honestly don't understand the reviews where people complain about not being able to handle the butterflies. The scales that make up their wings are so fragile and the animals are very easily damaged. They are beautiful to look and if they land on you, you're lucky, but not necessary to appreciate them. read more

Not really into butterflies, but we were headed out of Cape Cod and decided to stop here. It's pretty small, but the mini waterfall and large variety of butterflies makes for an interesting and peaceful time. Inexpensive activity, and great for kids. Best to go on sunny days, that's when the butterflies are most active. read more

I have been to Butterflies of Cape Cod & I loved sitting w/ the butterflies & watching them. I found it very relaxing & I enjoyed trying 2 spot as many different varieties of butterflies as I could. A small place. The owner clearly loves and cares for his butterflies quite a great deal. I wish we had known before going that you are not allowed to touch or handle the butterflies in any way. The butterfly enclosure is small, and a good portion of it is closed off for butterflies only. I love Butterflies of Cape Cod. The owners are so kind & truly love what the do. The exhibit is small but it's full of so much info. From caterpillars, cocoons & tons of flying butterflies. The environment is quiet & peaceful. I read previous reviews with people complaining about not being able to touch the butterflies - well we shouldn't! They are delicate & beautiful - we could hurt them by handling them. The gift shop is great; full of fun puzzles, jewelry, stuffed animals, etc. the restroom is private & clean. We live in Braintree & drive down several times a season. I also nanny for a three year old & she loves it! read more
