Stumbled upon Bird Watcher's General Store during a day trip to Eastham and I'm so glad we stopped! This store is definitely ALL about birds. They had various sections that had gift worthy items including bird watching books, glass bird ornaments, a clothing section, a baby/toddler/kids section with a wide variety of cute bird toys/puzzles and more! There was the other half of the store that included any and all essentials you need for your outdoor bird needs including bird feeders, bird seed (can I can the word "bird" one more time?) and a plethora of other handy gadgets for your home. What a wonderful place to visit with everything "bird" and "birding" related. As a beginner birder, but lover of all things nature, this place is a must stop in this special Cape Cod town. The owner was in the shop during my visit and signed one of his bird books for me. He let me brag about my own town a little as we put on a great birding festival. They have got everything plus for the bird feeder......my wife. Lizzie spends a near fortune on bird seed. The local birds, gigantic, fat, can hardly fly from the rich offering of only shelled sun flower seeds. Best investment advice I can offer now is buy stock in sunflower seeds. Liz is the strongest retail buyer of these yummy bird seedy things I can imagine. Every day she goes there. fill up my 5 lb container! Now, we feed everything that comes to the feeder but that's another story. The Bird Watcher offers the largest selection of every type of feeder, food product and more for those who need to spend on these little creatures that swarm feeders in most backyards on the Cape. Nice folks, great selection and better prices than Stop & Shop. Pricing...that's another thing all together....but if you want to play with the big birds you got to pay. read more

A wonderful store with terrible employees. Today I had an awful, unsettling experience with a clerk who, when I asked for his name, said it was "none of my business". Among the several unhelpful behaviors was at the start, when he reluctantly gave me a bird food recommendation ( the customer he was helping was quicker to make a suggestion). He pointed to the bird food. As I struggled a bit (I am a 75 year old woman) to load 10 pounds of seed into a bag (after same clerk told me to read he labels when I asked about the composition of the seed), and carried it to him where he had been standing behind the counter doing nothing, I asked him why no employee ever smiles in the store. A fact! I am a customer in a retail store that I like to patronize as a full time Cape Cod resident. When I approached I Also asked asked him why he didn't come over to help me and perhaps carry the 10 pound bag. He said he would never do that and if I couldn't manage I shouldn't come to the store. He was almost as rude when I brought bird watching friends from WV into the store the week before. They tried to engage him in conversation about Mike O'conners Weekend bird show and all he could say was Mike wasn't there. He was so rude, disrespectful, belligerent and obnoxious I was shocked. It has upset me all day. I don't know why staff like him are allowed to behave like this as I am sure I am not the only customer to have experienced this. What ever happened to "hello, how are you, how can I help you today?" I hope Mr O'Conner gets back to me. This is a very nice store with nice people, BUT, DO NOT purchase any binoculars from this location. The prices on their binocs are from 75-150% more than many other locations. For EX., Nikon 8.5 X 45 Monarch X - their price $495 - Amazon $299. It should be obvious to all that this tourist location is not a wise stop for the purchase of any quality optics products - stick to the campy signs and bird seed. read more
