Saw this on the way to Florida and made a pit stop in the way back. Was definitely worth it. Wished they had brisket!

If you aren't looking for M&W Smokehouse BBQ, you probably won't stumble across it. Walking in, M&W Smokehouse BBQ has a no-frills type vibe that just screams small-town restaurant. There is a sign that says seat yourself and since the place was pretty crowded (especially considering it was a Thursday). My server was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and helpful and checked on me enough. I went with the two meat dinner (chicken and pulled pork). For my sides, I went with the baked beans and a loaded baked potato. My food came out pretty fast and they brought out their homemade ranch dressing (which was very good). The meal as a whole was very good and the price was very good. I would definitely recommend M&W Smokehouse BBQ. I toyed between four and five stars, but went with five because of the great service.

This is a beautiful restaurant and the staff here is nothing less than amazing. We seated ourselves and was greeted by our server after only a minute or two - the selections were good and the prices were very very reasonable. After reviewing our option our drinks arrived and we were ready to order. Before getting to the food I just want to thank the cashier for putting together a makeshift poncho for our trip back across the pack to our RV. Barbecued Chicken - We both ordered this as part of the two meat plate, we both thought the chicken was moist, smoky and basted with a light slightly sweet bbq sauce I'd definitely do this again. Smoked St. Louis Ribs - I love good ribs and these were pretty tasty, meaty and had a good bark they also had a slight coating of the came bbq sauce. Sliced Pork - Honestly neither of us was a fan of this, the portions was nice and it was plenty lean but didn't taste fresh from the pit I'm thinking this was done ahead of time and served until it's gone. Fried Okra - Served with their signature buttermilk ranch dressing this was definitely a hit I'd say a must have if your an okra fan. Crinkle Fries - yes they were crinkle fries Coleslaw - There are so many versions so this one stood up well a little sweet for my taste but chilled and refreshing most people will love it I'm sure. Brunswick Stew - I tasted a few bites but unfortunately it was served cold and there was plenty of food in front of me so I didn't request a reheat. Well that's the lay of the land, the RVers next door and locals seem to like this place. After talking with the staff next door I was hoping to get a taste of there Steak special but unfortunately that's on Thursday so we missed it by a day. I'd eat here again...

BBQ is a gem of the American countryside dining. Partially, because the only other alternative is…read moretypically fast food. But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.

I've tried the chicken, the pulled pork and the smoked conecuh sausage and I can never decide which to get, so typically I'll just get the 3 meat plate, order all of them, and take a ton of leftovers to munch on the next day. The meats are good enough that you don't need to drown them in sauce. The people are super friendly and accommodating. The place is clean and has plenty of seating as well as a drive thru in case you want to call it in and pick it up in a hurry. Overall a solid spot that won't disappoint. If you're in the area and considering it, go ahead and give them a try.

The end....well, let's not be too hasty. For locals, the jury seems to say thumbs up, but for us the thumbs are mostly horizontal or down. Plenty of parking. Delightful smoky aroma surrounds the building and continues inside this rustic-looking building (painted battleship gray on the outside...but cabinesque inside. Orderd at the counter...and prompt service followed. The pulled chicken had a lightly smoked flavor that I enjoyed, but that was it...it was simply too dry. The pulled pork was similarly dry and even the addition of what I assumed was house -made sauce (ketchup-vinegar--devoid of spices) didn't help. (Caveat - we got there near the end of the day, so maybe the meats sat in the warmer/smoker too long? If so, our bad.) A skinny, crispy-skinned sausage was the star for me. I asked the host what kind it was (assuming it might be Conecuh. But she couldn't tell me who made it except "some company in Andalusia." Nevertheless, nameless as it was, the sausage was definitely the best thing on the plate. Baked beans looked good - thick with lots of little strands of meat (I think) but lacking any distinctive flavor. Collard greens were tender but lo-taste as well. Slaw was really chunky - not shredded - and lackluster. Mac and cheese was good...(and ended up being the only thing my wife finished on the plate.) Three draft beers on tap. Well, that is, three taps but only one beer to sell - Genessee Light. I watched as the bartender poured it, but it had so much head, he actually had to spoon the foam repeatedly off the top before he got a glassful. Cold but .....well, just cold. Finally as a parting observation. At least two different ketchups on the tables: Del Monte & some generic or food service brand like White House (couldnot read the label). Other add-on sauces? One bottle at the cash register of PF Chang's pepper sauce...and one bottle of chipotle hot sauce with a green label. The contents were so dark I couldn't tell what it was. I tried the Trappey's pepper vinegar and it too was well.... let's just say that's all for tonight. Please give Bush's BBQ a try....I'm only one reviewer and you might fare better.
