This was our second stay at Buttonwood and both times we have had a fun and enjoyable stay! The campground's landscaping is welcoming with beautiful gardens and flower arrangements throughout. Buttonwood is actually divided in to two sections with the upper lot, which is near all the activities and pool; and the lower area, which is near the Juniata River. During our visit, we found the staff to be friendly, helpful, and taking pride in the campground. Upon arrival, we were escorted to our site and the staff member helped back us into our spot. He then explained the electrical box, sewer, etc. to help us feel welcomed. We found the sites to be spacious, well maintained (gravel pads) and very level. Our site was along the river, which provided us with a great view. Yes, there is a train track across the river and you will hear them go by, but most of the time I really didn't notice them. Buttonwood has many amenities and theme weekends for their customers. In addition to the pool and playground there is mini-golf, laser tag, giant bounce pillow, and go-carts to name a few (Fee). They also offer free transportation to the Port Royal Speedway on Saturday nights for the races. Each weekend various activities take place with outside vendors, crafts, food, etc. One very important fact is they have a permanent stand for the Juniata Valley Winery onsite, which is open every weekend. Try the wine slushies!! Overall, we found Buttonwood Campground to be a fun and relaxing place to stay with friendly customer service and a variety of amenities. We will return and I recommend them if you are looking for a clean place to stay in Central PA. read more

All I can say is....wow! It's such a beautiful place. We are close to juniata river and under sin shade trees. The property is gorgeous. The staff are soooo kind and helpful! I mean I have called for everything and anything and sooo many times! Each time, they are polite, friendly and kind. Ryan is more than helpful, friendly and way kind! He has the perfect personality for the job and has a great sense of humor. He could have gotten irritated at me for calling so much but never did! My husband even said don't call him again, but when I did he was genuinely kind and helpful! He delivered our Amazon delivery right to our campsite. We were thinking we would have to go get it. Then, stood here and talked to us a few minutes. Even joked about how I wrote the wrong campsite number on the delivery. 365 verses 356! Lol. These people are real gems. We are walkers. Every morning. Got some great exercise, long walks on some back roads and doing some ceramics and bingo today. You can take a tube and a shuttle and ride the juniata! Plus some great miniature golf! Can't say enough good things about this place. The only thing is, it's hard to get a reservation but don't give up, it's worth it. I can tell you this...it is our first time here and it won't be our last. We will be back every year for sure! read more

There may be a better commercial campground somewhere. But, we have yet to find it. The owners/hosts and staff are welcoming and gracious. We especially like the river camping area. There's fishing, boating, and in season river rafting. pool, playgrounds, dog park, peddle cart rental, golf cart rental and lots more. The landscaping is beautiful and meticulously maintained. And, there are always spectacular seasonal displays (see some fall pics). read more

This was our first stay at Buttonwood. It is a beautiful campground! They have all sorts of things for kids to do, our seven year old had a blast! We went swimming in the pool, floated down the river, played mini golf, jumped on the jump pillow and played lots of Gaga ball! The river is really awesome, I can not wait to come back and park my chair in it. We brought our dog with us and he had the time of his life floating down and playing in the river! He also enjoyed all of the cuddles from our neighbors!This place is super dog friendly, with that being said, it is also very clean! They have trash service and doggy poop bags all over if your furry friend decides he needs to go potty. All in all it was a great weekend! The staff here is WONDERFUL!! Everyone is so nice and so helpful! The owners are present, social and super nice! They have an awesome campground! If you are debating on staying...do it! It is fun! read more

PROS 1.the care and attention to details was amazing.this campground is beautiful 2.the whole reason the park is divided into two parks are....wait for it...they obtained the piece by the river at a later date. the reason i point this out is that it makes it easy to access the water.imagine the park without it. 3.i appreciated the owners enforcing the rules,the negative reviews must be from the people the rest of us campers hate.they are unruly and obnoxious and i am glad they are told to follow the rules or they can leave...we wish they would leave 4.camp store is nice 5.all the people working at this park are very pleasant. 6.just an all out enjoyable camping trip. 7.this is a good FAMILY campground great for new campers trying to get their feet wet,as well as great for us old time campers CONS 1.the bathrooms are ok. 2.pool was a little small.it was refreshing,but small 3.need better signs to mark where the entrance to the park is.being new to the park i initially was pulling my big rig down the exit for the lower part of the park and had to back up.you do need a better sign to make everyone go right to the entrance thank you for a great stay read more

We stayed for two nights on a long weekend. The staff are great and even went as far to reopen the store just after closing so our kids could have ice cream after dinner. Don't want to lug firewood from the store to tour site? Just call the front office and they deliver. Everything was clean and taken care of. We stayed in a tent site in the upper part of the camp ground. The bathrooms were cleaned twice a day. We were close to the road but it was cool to hear the Amish come by in the morning on their horse and buggies. There is a series of public boat launches upstream and downstream of the campground. We drove about 3 miles south and dropped a car there and then launched at the boat ramp near the campground. We kayaked downstream and took about 2.5 hours to get to the next ramp. The water was warm and at no point did it feel unsafe. The boaters were mostly observant and slowed down to accommodate us on our kayaks. After lunch we went tubing. Some complain about buying the wristband buy where else can you tube unlimited for 15 bucks a person. Only thing was you need 2 cars one to leave at the launch and one to get back to your car. Apparently the campground usually has transportation but due to COVID-19, they weren't providing transportation. The staff were all really friendly, and our kids were safe riding their bikes around. Really great experience and we would absolutely cone back in the future. read more

The property is well maintained, but parents beware- they'll get you for a $15 wristband in order to do most of the activities. The band is technically good for 7 days, but there's no price reduction if you're only staying a night or two. Thus the one star rating. Is it really that difficult to offer price tiers? read more

This was probably my least favorite campsite. It's more compatible to a parking lot. We had 4 sites rv, 2 cabins and a tent. We spent most of the time at the rv site. There wasn't a lot of space. The tent site we had was the worst spot. Wasn't informed that there was a public road next to us. Cars driving by all night Plus we were at the bottom of a hill which was scary because when it poured I felt as if car could have slid off the road and hit us. That spot should be for rvs rather than a tent. $15 for a kids wristband for 7 days! And no other prices for guests stay for the weekend.. not much to do for that price for 2 days. We had such a great time last year, we are back again for the same weekend this year! We stay on the upper loop, backing up to the cornfield, so we have a good view of the surrounding mountains and farm. We came during October and the Halloween festivities were in full swing. Trick or treating, campsite decorating, and coffin races were fun. Our kids, ages 8 - 14, had a great time bouncing on the bounce pillow, riding the pedal cars and playing miniature golf, ping pong, and laser tag. The wristbands are only $15 for unlimited play; it's a bargain! The campground is really dog friendly, so that is a definite plus for our family. We've booked two weekends for next year and can't wait to come back! read more

I have to say this is one of the cleanest most organized and well taken care of campground I've ever been to. I dare you to find a weed in their flowerbed! With that being said I will say that the bath houses were hit or miss. Two out of four visits were disgusting, once there wasn't any hot water and I was forced to take a cold shower, the remaining two times the bathrooms were immaculate. I will say however that unless you are traveling with kids or really enjoy nature the town has nothing to offer. The campground did offer bingo for the adults which I enjoyed but for the most part the activities were geared towards children. Pack well because the nearest Walmart is a good distance away. The camp store was well stocked but always extremely busy. The staff were super friendly and always eager to help. Being new to camping we were having some issues hooking up the utilities. A call to the office promptly sent someone down to help us at no charge. I thought that was very thoughtful. Before booking familiarize yourself with the park layout. The upper level where the store, pool, and children's play areas are located are very sunny with immature tree plantings. There really is no shade and the camping experience is similar to camping in a field. Across the street river side is more like a campground - they have mature trees and the river is very close. At first we were booked on the upper level but once escorted to our spot (yes, they escort you upon arrival which I thought was a nice perk) and seeing that it was basically a field we paid a small upcharge to move to riverside and did not regret our decision. I will say that a train runs CONSTANTLY on the other side of the river. It ran more then once an hour and is LOUD. Not a problem for a city slicker like myself but.....if you are looking for tranquility maybe booking on the upper side would be better for you. We did however make the mistake of assuming they had charcoal bbq grills at each site (they do not) as well as easily accessible fishing. We bought a 1 day fishing permit for both of us only to not use it because there was no place to fish from the shore - we asked locals and even traveled to three different nearby towns. Unless you are planning on fishing from a boat or walking out for wade fishing there really isn't a shore point to fish from. Up the road a bit they also own Juniata River Adventures which rents canoes, tubes, and kiyaks but no discount is given for campground customers. read more

We camped here last year, during one of the Halloween weekends. It was quite a lot of fun! They had coffin races and decorating contests. Some folks are pretty serious and set up very elaborate scenes on their campsites. We loved it! They also had trick or treating for the kids before it got dark. It was nice to meet the other campers and their dogs. Yes, this is a dog friendly park and the pups got in costumes, too. Maybe this year, they'll have a costume contest for the dogs, too! We will be going back. It's close enough to home for us to run away for the weekend. PS. yes, there is a train on the other side of the river. We found we didn't mind it. We absolutely love this campground. The employees have always been very helpful and professional. Even when one of our camping buddies had a medical emergency, everyone jumped into action and provided care until the medics arrived. Right on a beautiful river, you can go up river to the boat launch w/ your own or take a shuttle & rent a canoe to float down to the campground. We've been here twice a year for several years and have never made it to the jump pad, laser tag, or pool because there's so much other stuff to do. Golf cart rentals are reasonable and the wine is amazing. Did I Mention there is a local winery set up on site for free tastings? Try the slushies! Seriously- the only negative things: Small public road runs through the campground and 3 night min for river front during the in-season. read more

I'm not impressed with this campground at all. First of all the campground is on 2 different sides of the road so you have to cross a road to get to the office, playground, pool, etc. There's also a train right behind the river so you hear that constantly along with the traffic from the road. The pool is way too small for the size of the campground. The sites are right on top of each other and there are not a lot of trees so you are baking in the sun. People were setting off 1/2 sticks of dynamite but not once did we see security driving around looking for the morons who set it off but at 11:02 pm we were told to turn off our radio that was on low volume to begin with. read more

One of the best camp grounds we have been to. Kids love it and it is real relaxing for adults. Staff is friendly and facilities are great.

This is my family's second year as a seasonal site and we are considering NOT paying another year for the following reasons. Ryan, the owner, is not very nice. We have witnessed him tell campers who we camp near that they are being too loud and that others are complaining which is NOT true since all the campers that have seasonal sites in that area all communicate with each other and none of us ever think the other campers are being loud. We are all there for the same reason which is to relax, and dare I say it, have FUN! Ryan literally drives around waiting to catch people laughing so he can say your too loud. Additionally, his tone when talking to a person, men in particular, is quite aggressive like he's trying to egg on a response so he can puff up his chest. We have witnessed it with the weekenders which we all think Ryan is over reacting. Here is my thoughts. Ryan, people laugh randomly NOT constantly and we all understand "quiet time" which means we don't need to be put to bed at 11pm by the fun police. Talking and laughing is not breaking the rules. No one keeps music on after 11pm. Also consider the next time your patrolling, as soon as you go into a camper you can't hear anything outside. I never EVER hear people at other sites when I know there's other sites still active and I'm a VERY light sleeper. Ryan, you should consider that when you driving around in a bad mood. I think you need to remember that people go camping to hang out by the fire ring telling stories with random laughing. Your approach is very offensive and over reactive which is making it much more difficult to want to hand over another deposit for next year's lot rent. Stop using the excuse that your getting complaints. We all not its not true and we have had 2 different weekenders approach us apologizing that they were too loud and our response was we never hear you. The group of us at different sites collectively assured the campers no one complained. I can only say I have witnessed this on the river side of the campground. So I'm not sure if he's that bad on the other side of the campground. If your looking to relax with friends and family around the fire ring, make sure you have a "lookout" person to avoid the "It's quiet time and your laugh is too loud" speech by Ryan. My husband and I were sitting by the fire one night and it was just after 11pm. We had no music on and Ryan stopped and said "it's quiet time". Uummm ok? So he left and I said to my husband what is that all about? We weren't talking at the time as I think one of us had just come back from inside the camper and just sat down. Also, you should show up on time if your in charge of the corn hole tournament as it is very unprofessional to find out your still in bed while the rest of us are waiting patiently. So while the same people your accusing of being too loud was up late talking around the firing ring, the same group was up early enough to partake in the cornhole tournament. The pool is VERY small and also make sure you get up there early enough to get a chair. On many occasions my kids left the pool because they said the bottom was really dirty and they allow older kids to horse play in a very small pool. The workers in the store and others driving around are always very nice and helpful. I think if Ryan is going to drive around he should be more positive and ask folks if they're having fun, etc. If he's not talking at you and lecturing he's driving by with barely a smile. We only have a few weekends left so I will see how it goes and decide if we want to come back. read more

We will not be coming back to this campground. We went with 9 total campers, most of whom have been going for 4 to 8 years at least once a year. We received nothing but constant harassment and accusations from management and one of the campers we were there with got kicked out for posting a bad review on July 3. Didn't even want to talk about it, the owner just came to site, ask for poster by name, and handed them a check and told them they had 2 hours to get out. There were about 15 kids from our group all under the age of 10, on the site making waffles and having a good time when we walked up. Didn't ask them to leave it have the adults step aside while they talked. He later said he "may have over reacted" and the the camper could stay but the one that made the post had to leave. Very unprofessional and childish. He then hid her review and finally commented today, July 9 saying they would pass information along to management to review the situation. read more

Been going there for many years on the Fourth of July. This year was the worst camping experience I ever had in my 25 years of camping. Went with a large group. The owner made us feel really uncomfortable the entire time. The other staff members were nice who I dealt with anyway! The owner actually accused our group of putting something in the public bath houses. Nice way to treat your customers! We had one in our group who had to leave, as someone put a bad review in this site which they remove your reviews from this Facebook site and pick and choose which ones to leave. We talked to numerous seasonal campers who felt the same way we did. Sad to see a nice place to go too, be so mean to there customers. Feel bad for there seasonal campers. When the owner decided to give a check to the other camper he threw out, he did it in front of about 9 kids under 10 eating waffles. Did not even ask to speak the camper owners aside from them. My kid returns home in tears. read more
