Where do I start? Let's start with the vibe and the life of the bar and restaurant, DAVE! Dave is the most engaging, friendly, professional and knowledgeable foodie I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and being cared for by. Cece my wife made the reservation over the phone, Cece has not spoken French in 20+ years but was determined to make it happen in French. Dave took the reservation and 2 1/2 hours later greeted us with a warm welcome like we had been regulars for many years. We requested bar seats and they were waiting upon our arrival, must have bar seats for the full Buvette Scott experience. Cece and I started with a dozen Acadian Pearl Oysters, best I have had, sweet and succulent and Canadian, $1.50 ea before 7 PM. I don't have time for the cocktails and fine local spirits, just ask Dave for a taste, willingly provided and you will probably stay for 3+ hours like we did. Food, Oysters a must, after that we had the Croquetie DE Pastrami DE Porc, Mais , Raisins, Caroites, amazing. I will add more in the coming day's, must visit while in Quebec City. Music is vinyl, two turntables that Dave controls, classic stuff, Awesome vibe. Most Yelp review had dressy attire and that made me almost pass, I showed up in down vest, shorts and sneakers, most everyone looked the same but minus the shorts, I guess they thought it was cold. read more

This was our first time in Quebec. For the first few days we ate near our hotel and were repeatedly disappointed despite 4 & 5 star ratings on yelp. Decided to venture just a little bit farther from the hotel and the tourist district for our next meal. This is where our buvette Scott experience started. I called to make a reservation for a mid weekday night thinking it wouldn't be difficult to get a spot, however they were already full except a few bar seats. I explained I had a young child and they were kind enough to offer to make room at a 2 person table. Take away - make reservations. We arrived early and the place had a warm glow due to all the Edison bulbs. It's small and nothing fancy, but comfortable. Started with a negroni and some on tap beer. Both very good. Staff was very helpful with creating something for my young daughter. They gave her homemade pasta with sauce and she ate it all. Which is unheard of for any toddler. Had the Brussels sprouts which had a crispy texture with a light brush of sauce below, delicious. My mackerel was ok, the cold purée around the plate was a surprise as I thought it'd be hot, but a fun combinations of flavors and overall nice. My husbands duck dish was amazing. Definitely recommend that as a stand out. The zucchini bread dessert came with homemade sesame snaps, something I used to love as a child. Again, very good. I have a gluten allergy and the staff was very good with accommodating. Overall, best restaurant we visited in Quebec. Glad to find something delicious. read more

Buvette Scott has something special going on; my husband and I love trying different restaurants worldwide, and this by far was one of our favorite meals. First, the service here was second to none. Our server was kind, attentive, and was informative about the restaurant's menu options. It was clear that at least 1/2 the restaurant were "locals" and he did not have any issues translating the entire menu to English for us. The menu changes regularly based on what is in season, so it is difficult to say what will be amazing when others stop in here; however, one of our favorite dishes was the salad with ham. I would recommend sharing 4-5 dishes per couple, depending on your level of hunger. There was a nice variety of both red and white wines by the glass and I let our server pick what he thought was best, based on my taste preferences. (he did a great job) This was an extremely enjoyable meal/experience and the best meal we enjoyed in Quebec! read more

The most attentive and kind waiters I have ever met. These guys are here to serve you in their unique eclectic restaurant. It was a bustling evening with a full house and my waiter took his time letting me sample different wines before I chose one..The food was outstanding..The best charcuterie we have ever experienced. We had a long leisurely dinner, it was tremendous! We made a reservation the day of, they took us right in, it was so cute and casual inside. Cute wee find off Rue Saint Jean, with a fresh menu changing every few days. Our waiter (Pierre?) was THE sweetest, made the effort to sit with us and translate through the menu and really describe the flavors as well as talk us through the various local beers they had on tap. Made a reservation for 8pm, the table was ready for us when we arrived. Very friendly staffs . We ordered the raw scallop , Grilled Marlin, and Rabbit saddle dish. The raw scallops dish is kind of strange, very small portion, not recommend. Grilled Marlin and Rabbit saddle is very tender and tasty, the portion is not too big either, especially after waited almost an hour for the food, we were starving, finished the food in five minutes, and still didn't feel satisfied. Good beer and wine, but wow, disappointed in the food...greeted with a smile and courtesy when we walked in but the food...my god!!! Ordered the calamari entree for 14$ and got five cold unseasoned strings of calamari with some cabbage. And especially don't order the 17$ " longe de porc "! What a fun evening my friends and I had here! The restaurant was very accommodating when I called the day of to add some people to my reservation. We sat at the bar and our server was a lot of fun and very knowledgeable about the food and wine. And we ate and drank a lot...oysters, foie gras, the cod (my favorite), the pasta, mozzarella/tomato dish...we may have had more, but the alcohol had definitely gotten to us by this point. I do wish the menu had a few more options (we were open to everything but the duck hearts) but everything we had was delicious and the vibe and staff were friendly and fun. I was immediately taken aback upon entering the restaurant and not being acknowledged. When I asked if I could sit at a bar table, I was told yes, then one of the men made sure I understood that at 8:00, it would be reserved for more than one person. Note this was at 5:45. I assured him I would be gone well before 8. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine and two appetizers. The menu noted that oysters are half price before 7 PM. I ordered six - regular price $15. On receiving my check, I was charged $9 instead of $7.50 and was told half-price was half of the price for a single oyster ($3). I freed up their bar table well before 6:30. Loved this restaurant. As a Californian, I was a bit intimidated by the menu, but I got over myself and "went for it" - every single thing was five star! Cozy, neighborhood restaurant featuring québécoise cuisine, from the entrées to the wine and cheese, to the dessert, we felt we were having an "authentic" meal - and I suppose we were! Best of all, the waiter- owner, Pierre, was friendly, accommodating, actually sitting at our table for a few minutes. We felt like special guests. If you enjoy hidden jewels, it is a must go! This place is exactly what I love most about eating in a restaurant. It's welcoming, unpretentious, relaxing, and intimate (just a few tables), with cool music playing on vinyl records. The guys serving were friendly and enthusiastic about their menu. The food was delicious, well presented, fresh flavors with a menu on chalkboards (changes frequently). For starters, we ordered their fresh oyster from Prince Edward Island. It was so good. Then for our entree, we started with two of their main, the friend chicken with kimchi and mayo hoisin and their tortellini with squid ink. Amazingly delicious. Wait, there's more. Since it will probably take us a while to be in Quebec City, we ordered a couple more main, the Cesar de borgouts with pomme de terre, persil and cornichons. And the other entree was the scallops. Great food and service. Was there during the heat wave and they didn't have AC. Wasn't sure I was going to be able to stick it out at first but the staff was super friendly and very passionate about the food and where the ingredients came from. Overall the quality of the food made me forget about the heat. We had most things on the menu. The menu was novel and imaginative with fresh locally sourced ingredients. The flavours were well balanced and unlike anything I've had before. The only dish we didn't completely enjoy was the bison tataki. I found the bison too chewy. It was unfortunate because the flavour was spot on. Because of the heat the meringue in the dessert was melting and a little chewy, otherwise really good. Wow what a great find! Just a 15 minute walk from the Château it would be worth an hours drive. The menu is eclectic and so interesting the flavor combination. This is the best restaurant that we have ever eaten at, ever. WOWOWOWOW!! Honestly, not sure where to start! The radish salad was to die for, the marinated gravlax salmon was incredible, the veal amazing and the blood sausage in profiterol wow. This was by far my best meal, and favorite place, in Québec City. I never would have found this place had it not been for a friend's recommendation. I'm so glad I did. The space is small and unassuming. The bartenders are friendly and as attentive as they can be, given how busy this small restaurant gets. I was here on a Monday night, and the place was nearly full. I'm told the menu changes frequently, so the dishes I had will likely not be available. I started with the pork pastrami served with radishes and fried potatoes. This was the best thing I've eaten in recent memory. For my main course, I had the hanger dream, also delicious. I finished with an elevated take on strawberry shortcake. This restaurant was perfect. We started with the fish rillettes which were creamy and came with a perfectly toasted cruton and a delicious salad of mustard greens and fennel stalk. Second, we shared the charcuterie board with homemade meats and pickled veggies. The pressed pork was unbelievably tender and herbal, and my wife who doesn't usually like pickled anything raved about the ginger onions and the spicy pickles. Lastly we had the most smooth and perfectly cooked gnocchi of my life. Our waiter was so accommodating because we do not speak French, and explained every menu item from the board, and described every dish as it came out. It was clear that they were all passionate about the food and drinks, made great recommendations, and let us try wines until we found what we loved.
