Smoked meat nachos

A friend of ours said they have the best French onion soup. She was right. #iraeats #iraeats1

Smoked meat sandwich

My husband and I celebrated his 50th birthday with a trip to Montreal and Quebec City. This quaint and friendly pub was just down the street from our hotel, so we stopped in on our first night. The smoked meat sandwich was enough for us to share and had great flavor. The establishment featured a fireplace and interior stone walls, and a relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Charles, the friendly bartender, introduced us to Sortilege and shared stories with us. We liked the place so much we ended up ending each of our four nights there. The streets were all but deserted at night, so we felt like we were locals hanging out with friends.

Guillaume our host! Great service and great food and drinks!

It was risky...we never go anywhere less than 4 stars and at the time of this review it was 3.9 stars! But the staff is A+, beer is fantastic and we have melted Brie with walnuts and honey as well as a smoked meat sandwich. Both were great and both served on or with baguette. Wait staff super friendly and let me butcher my French! Pricing was very reasonable. Outstanding soundtrack! Definitely worth another stop.

Griffon Red

Pooh and I came here for a few brews (we are still here) and some munchies. We both started with pints of Griffon Red and shots of Irish whiskey and then went to shots of tequila but after one Pooh had enough; Pooh is not as crazy about tequila shots as I am. Our server was very friendly and quite busy as he was the only server here and another guy in the kitchen. After a few beers and shots we ordered a Brie plate to munch on and absorb some alcohol before we make the up hill trek back to the hotel 4 stars because they were missing products from the menus Pooh and I would definitely come back

Pint with maple whiskey shot

This was our go to pub. We went almost every day of our trip. The staff was so friendly and we loved the cool atmosphere it provided. Must try the pint with whiskey shot.

Service was slow, food was marginal and we were seated in a back room with a view of the kitchen and shelves of old books and well-used board games. I didn't think it was particularly clean and the chairs were not comfortable. It was expensive for what we ordered. I had the "European Hot Dog" and my wife had chicken tenders, basic short order fare and we've had better.

Visiting this pub was one of the highlights of my trip to Quebec! Such a beautiful spot! I visited on a cold winter's night, and it was incredibly warm and cozy inside. Of all the bars in the area, Pub des Borgia had the best deal on the "pint and shot" combo that you will come across everywhere in Old Town - just $3 to add a shot of delicious local maple whiskey (on the side). Service was friendly, but I did need to go to the bar to order more drinks and to pay. No big deal. I didn't order any food, but it appeared to be the standard fried bar options. The only negative I'd say is that the food is made in the bar itself, giving the whole place a slightly unpleasant old oil smell. I really could've stayed here all night! The interior was just gorgeous. Highly recommended.

A nice little pub on the stairs of the old city. The guy running the place is super friendly and the service was good. The French onion soup was pretty good. And the drinks were plentiful and refreshing. Overall a positive experience.

This bowl of hot chocolate with whipped cream hit the spot. It was so warm and a great finish to our lunch.

We ducked in for a quick drink on a cold day. We stayed and had more! The French Onion Soup was wonderful and warmed the spirit. A couple mulled wines helped set of the lunch. I finished up with a bowl of hot chocolate which was perfect to set us back to the streets for shopping.

There was a jazz trio playing -- two elderly men on guitar and bass, and a younger fellow on the drums. They were rocking it. The crowd got pretty into it too, applauding the solos, swaying, and tapping their feet, without really getting disruptive. It's a good environment for this sort of music. A lot of jazz bands in bars and restaurants tend to sort of blend into the background, getting just a smattering of applause from the nearest table. It was nice both the musicians and patrons at Le Fou-Bar enjoying themselves. Besides the music, it seems like a pretty standard-issue bar. Not unpleasantly loud or crowded, even with the music. A bunch of beers on tap, mostly from Montreal's McAuslan brewery. The French reviews mention a large whiskey collection, but I didn't inspect it closely. I also saw a food menu, though I didn't see anyone eating from it, so it may be prudent to get your dinner elsewhere. The clientele seemed mostly local, and French-speaking, though the staff did speak more English than I spoke French. They did not seem to mind my non-Francais-parlezing ways. So basically, these five stars are not really for the food or drink or service (which seemed standard), but for being a fun, casual spot to listen to some good live music. From what I can decipher on the website, they have someone playing at 9pm every Tuesday.

It was empty when we arrived so we had our choice of seating, and our server was pretty patient with us while we figured out what to eat. Considering it was us and two other people at the bar, I feel like the service could've been faster, but we weren't in any hurry and when we did place our food order it was brought right out to us. I have seen reviews of this place where others have mentioned that it's not English speaking friendly, but in our experience that wasn't true. To be fair we did communicate in French, but of course English is easier for us to speak. Overall vibes of the place are pretty eccentric with a kind of rock and roll grunge vibe but they also had totems and other decorative pieces that gave a nod to Quebec's Native American people which was cool to see!

In the states, this would have been a non event and unless we all did not physically fit in the pub we would have been allowed in. Here it was a bit different. The person at the door told us that we all had to wait outside while they prepared an area for us. Waiting outside in the cold seemed ridiculous. When I pushed the issue she finally let us in and it was hard to see what the hold up was and why we were told to wait ouside in the first place. There was a solid music group performing and there was a nice selection of drinks and food on the menu.
