Waiting an hour+ to get a haircut is LAME! Especially when you call up to ask How's the line and the owner says "not bad". 10 minutes later when you show up the line is 12 deep. I've been looking for a barber for the last 6 months, as many of you may know, this was no easy feat. From places that call themselves barbers but are unfamiliar with beard trims, to places that think men only get clipper buzz cuts, even to the regrettable chain stores charging premium prices for sub par service. Let me just say I'VE FINALLY FOUND A BARBER SHOP!!!! OK now that that's out let me explain why, Buzzards provided EXACTLY what I wanted! From a walk-in availability, to fair prices, to a Barber that listened to what I wanted asked clarifying questions and helped tell me how to continue the look he achieved. Not to mention he took the time to make sure it all lined up well (not one cheek line a 1/2 inch above the other). The barbers came well reputed and for good reason, styles range from older more traditional cuts to more modern cuts, granted I'm trying to grow my hair and beard out so I didn't need much (will be checking back to keep you all updated). I was never rushed, I also never felt like the Barber was rushing even though they were slammed. I came out looking clean and feeling fresh, I will definitely be coming back! I did not like the fact I could not schedule an appointment. My real frustration was twofold. First, I did not like needing to wait an hour to get into a chair. Secondly, my haircut was not one of the better haircuts I received. Finally, I sensed an heir of superiority from the staff and did not feel welcome in the shop. This place is absolutely amazing; they offer quality hair cuts at reasonable prices. I used to live about a two minute walk away, so it was an easy decision to walk over and wait a few minutes for a cut. I've since moved further away and that fact that I still choose this place says a lot. The razor shave on the neck probably takes the cake. They usually have a wait (with good reason) so consider planning for an hour or more if you show up at the wrong time. This isn't the end of the world, just bring something to do, be an adult. All of their barbers are quite skilled and they are appreciative of their customers. I definitely recommend this place, especially for those who are used to chain haircut places. It's a real barbershop, not that Super Cuts cookie cutter "I got a license so I'm a barber" BS. These guys are professional barbers and will listen to what you want or if you're like me, you can ask them for suggestions and they'll give you their expert recommendation based on hair type and head shape. I've been working with Derrick for a little over a year and have never been disappointed. You'll go in, sit down, watch these guys and see how they take their craft serious with precise attention to detail. The quality of their work speaks for itself. These guys are great and always give a great haircut. I've had haircuts from each of the guys and have been getting my hair cut from Rob and Chris since they were at Supernova. I've never been disappointed. They take their time and give a quality haircut. It can be busy and they only do appointments on Thursday (I'm pretty sure) so it's good to have some time to spare. They did great work on my boyfriend's hair and beard. They listened to what he had to say, asked questions, and ran with it. He looks great, not that I'm biased. They also gave him an eyebrow trim! Yes! No more caterpillars. They do not take reservations, which works great if they're not busy. But, on a Saturday, my boyfriend did have to wait for two hours. I came here for a haircut yesterday and the environment it self had a good vibe to it. You walk in and write your name down on a whiteboard to get your haircut. It does take a while for it to be your turn longer than your average barber. But the expression " its worth the wait" really takes into place here. I was holding for over 2 months to get a haircut and I'm glad I found this place. I had Juan give me a cut and during the haircut you can notice just how much they try to give you their absolute best and I would by lying if I didn't say it was the one of the best haircuts I've gotten. There is exactly one valid complaint about this place: they are so good that there can be insane waits and it can be hard to get in for a cut. If you show up too late, you might miss out. Plan accordingly. I've been twice, each time was on a day I got out early from work and ran right over. Shop feels like a place all men want to hang out in. When you sit down, you get a great cut, straight razor neck shave and style for $20 ($15 for military, which makes me feel like I'm stealing a little bit). I leave feeling, looking, and thanks to whatever they hit my neck up with, smelling like a man. This is the type of place that make me glad I'm staying in Tacoma. read more

I've been growing my beard for 3.5 years and 2 years ago I had it trimmed and I've only trimmed it myself. I felt it needed a good trim and decided to go check these guys out. I had some good friends that are friends with Chris. I went in and told them what I wanted and they said pick anybody on the wall. I picked Tim although above his name it says (apprentice barber) I figured I'd go with it because everyone has to start somewhere. After small chit chat and hearing he was a retired fire fighter and used to cut hair in the military I felt I made the correct decision. He was very professional, I had him do what he wanted with the only stipulation of keeping it as long as possible. After trimming, he put the hot towel on my face, did a straight razor shave just on my face and put beard oil in my beard. I've been letting my full beard grow for the last two months and now felt it was long enough and looking a little scraggly....so it was time for a trim. Having kept a goatee for several years it was easily to trim by myself and with short hair on top....a franchise shop was just fine. But this full beard was different .... I wanted a pro to advise me and trim it right. This beard was something I wanted to keep and continue to grow out longer. I wanted it to be distinctive and define my look .... since I'm pushing seventy this year. Well, I did my research and found Buzzards in Tacoma. It was not too far from home and the reviews were great...seemed to good to be true. I arrived a half hour before opening and took my place in line. There were already a dozen in front of me, so I knew it would be a little bit before I was in a chair. Not a problem....enjoyed talking with others as we all waited to sign in on the board (the cutoff was 30). Once sitting inside, the atmosphere was like a true men's barber shop of bygone years. Just men of all ages, short and long hair, with and without beards and some with their sons. The barbers looked like barbers .... professional, experienced barbers. Once the first round of men were in the chairs, it was a show to watch and enjoy. I could tell this by how the barbers interacted with everyone......answering questions, making suggestions and changes if needed. Real conversions instead of scripted ones. And the results tell the tale....all the heads and beards looked great. Just what I was looking for ! My turn came about an hour after signing the board.... my barber was Juan. After introducing ourselves, he had me in the chair and prepped. He immediately asked what i was looking for today. I had questions, showed him some photos and he intuitively seemed to know what I wanted. He took his time, asked a few questions about the cut and trim, chatted about several things.....and in about forty-five minutes, I was done and admiring the transformation in the mirror. I'm really happy with my experience....and looking forward to my next visit with Juan. I rate Juan and Buzzards five stars and strongly suggest you give them a go. read more
