The menu here seemed a little too simplistic in my opinion. There's pictures for everything, so that makes it easier to decide what you want. The food was severely under seasoned. Refried beans needed salt, the rice needed salt, and the protein needed salt. Once salt was added, the flavors were more pronounced. My first time here, and I am impressed. The vibe comes across as a "mom & pop" restaurant, but I am not sure if that's the case. Lunch time was busy, but there was plenty of seating. Even through the rush, the restaurant remained quiet and peaceful. I love the paintings on the wall, and the large windows are perfect for people watching while enjoying an authentic meal. Typical pricing for Mexican food, and very few options for beverages. I ordered the Carne Asada Tacos Combo, and boy was I impressed with the quality of the steak. Made fresh, excellent taste, and less than a 15 minute wait. My guest ordered Huerchos Ranchos with a side of chicken, and he enjoyed it very much. The chicken was fresh, juicy and flavorful. I must admit, not very impressed with the rice and beans, but it was edible. There is a bar where you can add your onions, cilantro, jalapeños, radishes and salsas of choice. Made it much easier to get what I needed, while the staff tends to other guest. I enjoyed my lunch here, and I look forward to trying new things. read more

I stopped here for lunch. They don't have the taco Tuesday deal but they do have an array of delicious options with a toppings bar! I got #21 which is three tacos with their marinated pork (you can select what kind of protein you want). I love the interior design of this place, totally gives off a ranch vibe. The food is reasonably priced, the service is nice, and the food is pretty good. The best is their homemade chips! They're salty, fresh, warm and crunchy... I would go back just for a plate of those! My only spot for carne asada torta; love the cheese that is laid under the meat and over the meat in this sandwich. I've tried tortas in Texas, California and New York multiple times but nothing beats it in my opinion. I've noticed the price of food have gone up over the years but that's the cost of business. This place has better flavor then Los ocampo and better price. It's a small little spot on the corner of where ward 6 sits on. I tend to like the smaller Hispanic spots as because they are more authentic than the larger Hispanic joints. The larger ones are more americanized to accommodate their flavors(less richness to it). This place is also across the Hispanic grocery spot where they also sell elotes(roasted corn). If your ever around the payne area and hungry for Mexican. I'd say make a stop here. They also have the sides you can add on yourself like radishes, onion, cilantro etc on the side of where they take your order. read more

In the learning of Mexican cuisine I went here. The place pretty spacious and it is old building, the ceiling is so high and there are flat screen TVs mounted on the walls. Pretty clean although the table we chose was sticky. But the counter for ordering and for condiments also the grill look clean. I ordered tacos, beef tongue, intestines and sausage. Pretty tasty and the corn tortillas had some nice crusted on them and don't have strong smell of corn. Tamarind drink was ok. Brought home milanese torta,and that was delicious!! huge sandwich with a lot inside went on, 4 different type of meats, ham, chorizo, hotdog, and forget the last one, but also sour cream, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno, I don't know what else inside. I work nearby and like to come here once every couple weeks for lunch. Burrito with Carnitas or Pastor pork are my favorite. You get a lot of food for the price, service is friendly and fast. There are several different salsas to choose from and I agree with a previous review that they are not very spicy. However, I wouldn't want the delicious flavors of the meat (including pineapple and onion in the Pastor) to be overpowered by blistering hot salsa anyways. I lived in St. Paul for two years after graduating college and this place was by far my favorite to go to in the city. The restaurant, along with its staff, is very warm and welcoming. I wouldn't have it any other way When I still lived in St. Paul, I'd find myself there at least 2-4 times per week. With absolute certainty I can tell you that my favorite item on the menu is the alambre con chorizo o pastor (or any type of meat you like). For those who don't know, picture a layer of tortillas topped with piles of meat (your choice) along with ham, bacon, and fresh veggies. Then, they also have a small buffet of different salsas, sauces, pico's and other toppings to customize your meal. Friends making up my company would often go with the tortas if their hunger was below what would be necessary for the almighty alambre. Long story short try it. This is a nice little taqueria. We were checking this place out for the first time and the people working there were very welcoming and kind. I got the tacos and horchata while the rest of my family had enchiladas and tacos. The tacos were good and the green medium salsa they had was perfect on the tacos. The enchiladas were just as delicious if not more so. The only reason I am not giving this place a five star review is that I felt there could have been a few more fresh, authentic ingredients that would have added to the taco flavor and quality. Very authentic food the tacos al pastor/ marinated pork are the best. The price is very reasonable for the amount of meat you get in each taco you could make two tacos out of one if you wanted. I ordered a burrito and when it came it was bigger than chipotles and cheaper. Hard to see driving by because there are no signs facing the road but worth looking for. read more
