I will say the kids tacos was a little small for my 8-year-old so I'll get her a full taco meal next time. The chips and guacamole were very yummy. We ended the meal with churros. We love El Burrito Mercado. Not only are they a great latino grocery store, but they also have a restaurant with pretty good food. They are an immigrant-owned business, and you can also find their food truck at local MN events and even a stall at the State Fair! We don't go out for Mexican food very often because my mother in law is from Chihuahua and typically cooks better and more authentically than most restaurants in the area, but when we do El Burrito is typically on the short list. We've always had good service here. The staff is friendly, happy to chat or talk to you, and give recommendations. We stopped in this last time to grab a couple drinks on the patio and the waitress was nice enough to warn us that they've had bees recently. There were alot of bees, but we got through it and were happy that she warned us ahead of time. Their specials are excellent including their double Entre special on Thursdays and their Taco Tuesday deals. We stopped in for an early dinner on a Friday. Our server was friendly and attentive. The dining room area is on the smaller side, but it was clean, attractive, and had a few large screen TVs. The food and drinks came quickly, and there was no point in the meal where we were cooling our heels waiting for service. The chips were served warm, which I appreciated. . I think they make their salsas in house, which is a bonus. That said, I prefer my salsas to be a chunkier, thicker quality. The margarita was made made with top shelf liquors, but I'd never know it. It was absolutely not worth the $15.50 price tag. The burrito, rice, and beans were all tasty, and I'd order them again. If you haven't been here, what are you even doing?! My favorite spot for Mexican food is @elburritomercado in St. Paul. You may also recognize their logo at the MN State Fair and their food truck at various events. Overall if you've never been to their actual restaurant and market... you gotta. They have a full market and goods side to find all of your needs to take home and cook. As well as prepared items to bring home, heat and serve. I highly suggest this for taco night at home. Everything is fresh, delicious and made there in house. They have a walk up order area with casual seating, a full sit down restaurant area and an awesome patio. In the warmer months they have their Elotes truck out near the back entrance. The customer service is friendly, welcoming and very helpful if you have questions or need recommendations. I recently was shopping the grab and go deli and was trying to decide what meat to go with and two separate regular shoppers pointed me to some awesome picks so shout out to helpful strangers. I'll pass it along if I see someone staring at the wall of options someday. The staff working the deli window was also extremely helpful in picking out a good salsa heat level and gave a few samples to ensure my decision. Remember always ask for recommendations if you're not sure! Wow! What a gem. If you're new like me or haven't been by lately, make sure to park in the back and enter there. There's only one way in and there's a greeter/security guard there. The Mercado is huge and has everything you might need. I even found fajita spice mix which you're not going to find in most grocery stores. I also found cactus which I have never found in a store. I included a picture to mess with my wife who just isn't into cactus. We ordered supper at the kiosk and it came up pretty quickly. We also took advantage of donating a platter for someone in need. There was plenty of seating. My kid got quesadillas and I got shrimp tacos with, of course, cactus. Which, by the way, is very tasty. We also got horchatas. So good. I visited this place yesterday (again) and when I say I'm obsessed with their salsa bar, I'm obsessed! There are is such a great variety - salsas, guacs, and ceviches! I went there to grab some salsa for a friend get together today. This Mercado also has a restaurant that I need to come back and try some time! So many good authentic Mexican ingredients and food... a truly warm atmosphere and very fun to check out! Service was great and the staff was so appreciative of me stopping in to shop! It was busy!! Really great market! Organized and very clean. I was impressed by the selections. Also with their grab and go section. I ended up getting their famous guacamole and chips. Perfection! Tucked in this Mexican tienda is a nice restaurant with both quick serve and seated/bar options! They've got a chicken mole that is fork tender chicken and rich mole sauce. Delicious. And a huge portion. Their Mexican rice is plain with no veggies, which I like. My girlfriend had the enchiladas of the day (cheese). This is not your typical market. This market has pan Dulce , a lot of Mexican spices , cheeses and the list goes on. They also have a little restaurant inside with lots of seating areas. In addition to a great meal, I was able to stock up on plenty of staples and pre-made food at the market. This was a very solid Mexican joint that had very flavorful tacos. Personally, I got the quesabirria tacos which had a side of consomé, and the consomé was very flavorful, so dipping the birria tacos into the consomé was an extremely pleasant experience. The meat was very tender and the tortillas were the right consistency, not too crispy and not too soft. The lengua taco had a good amount and size of lengua meat, which made it a very good experience consuming such as well. My spouse had the tamale platter which had two chicken tamales along with rice, refried beans, and some veggies. She mentioned that the tamales were dry, which made her decide to bring one tamale back and used hot sauce at home. She also had the chicken tacos, but didn't comment on whether or not she thought they were good. The Paloma and vampiros are good but I've had better, stronger, bigger ones for the same price. . Really wished the salsas were spicier or at least offered a spicier variety to the customer. I really wanted to like this place but my experience wasn't that great. When you first walk in it's a nice size market with mostly food but there were trinkets and other items as well. To the right of the market they have a walk up counter where you can order food. This is where the issues started. The cashier was very rude, didn't greet us, she walked away on her cellphone came back to the counter and proceeded to be on her phone before looking up and still didn't say anything just looked at us. We ordered the nachos which I asked for no beans (of course it came out with beans -_-) If you walk further right there's a bar and if you keep walking there's a patio. We ended up getting a table on the patio and ordering a drink. The waitress was a little better. Also when we sat down another waitress came and dropped chips and salsas off at our table as if it was a complimentary thing, we were charged for them even though we did not ask for them nor eat them because we had a plate full of nachos. They had a food truck/stall outside that offered a more limited menu. They also had live music/cover band playing music which was nice. I know it's outdoors but the trash cans so close to the tables drove me crazy. So many flys. Other than that the patio was really nice! I'll give the Service 2/5 stars. I didn't try them, but they were available to use. It's located inside of a Mexican grocery store... which initially turned me off. How could a GREAT restaurant have this location. Restaurants in grocery stores have a reputation for convenience not excellence. This is not the case here! The synergy with source ingredients seems perfect. The crispy tacos were our favorite. Tonight was my daughter's early birthday celebration- - super excited for the Mariachi band singing especially for birthday celebrants. We were ALL excited, FULL of anticipation and starving. I ADORE outstanding Mexican, Italian and Mediterranean food! I love love Barbacoa long stewed in a well seasoned sauce. I ate the best beans in Tulsa Oklahoma in a giant used bookstore with this tiny Mexican open restaurant in a corner. The best Mexican cooked fish in an old old restaurant in 1970, downtown Los Angeles. Still can taste it with my eyes closed! The Mariachi Band was the BEST I have ever heard, and this HUGE bass guitar with the full rounded deep back had a WONDEROUS sound, and what PERFECT singing!!! Even better than the original OLD Old town 1980's-90's in San Diego, CA! And... a gentleman guest in our dining room stood up near the bands departure and honored us with his almost perfect Operetta trained beautiful deep exhalted voice ( see video). So why the rare for me 2 stars?? The food. The service was impeccable, ambiance genuine boisterous happy! I am sorry, two bites I could not eat the enchiladas which were small thin. The red and green sauces were sharp tasting and I felt almost from a can. Almost zero seasoning. I politely packed it up, tossed when I got home. The light brown beans cooked with bacon were very good in this tiny cup. Rice no flavor. I ate the beans. Mom was born in LA. I grew up eating traditional long stewed enchiladas home made sauce with great seasoning and Don Miguel Mole of course added. The sauce is the BEST part. Love it on home made tamales. read more

Today, I had a disappointing experience at the side-restaurant of this supermarket. Expecting the pleasant experience of a regular restaurant is not the right thing to do in this place. It is known that self-called restaurants in the USA do not tend to be truly genuine. El Burrito Supermercado's side kitchen is expensive and not at restaurant level. I ordered the "Taco Salad Bowl", which is around $15, and knowing that they do not include an acceptable amount of meat, I ordered a side order of some other meat and a side of black beans and one of the flavored fresh waters (cucumber). The bill was around $33 for me as a solo-guest. As the electronic device vibrated and I approached a counter to pick my order, I inquired whether it was possible to get a bit of sour cream. The kitchen personnel stated that the sour cream squirter had been removed and that I should get in line and pay for a side order of sour cream. I approached the cashier and told them that they should tell their manager that a customer complained about having to pay additional for a tiny portion of sour cream after paying for $33 order. After I sat down to eat and had already eaten halfway or more of my meal a non-smily lady approached and said hello and then stared at me until I guessed that she was the manager. The lady did not apologize or greet nicely. I explained that after ordering one meal and two sides and a drink, I felt that it would be a courtesy to get a bit of sour cream. The manager said that that is what all customers must do in a non-polite way and left as I realized this was not an interaction that was conducive to having me say thanks or anything of the sort. Then I realized that such manager was at the kitchen talking and looking back at me. I felt like maybe if I order something else, they would perhaps spit on my food? I immediately began recalling my episodes in mostly criminal-run Latin America, where everyone is traumatized and trying to traumatize others in a way that normalizes bullying, rudeness, aggressiveness and even violence, torture, rape and murder! I left that "restaurant" with a disgusting mix of feelings that I do not want to feel again. I had to take the time to write this instead of moving on with my life because I think it must be documented and read by others looking into this sort-of-landmark supermarket that some automatically go to as I have several times just because it has been there for years and people mention it. I left that place feeling as if I had just visited a jail, where you are told what to do and there is no smiles or politeness anywhere. I recall the face and attitude of the lady manager that came to my table and realize that she was actually confronting me and that she came back to the kitchen to perhaps brag about how she put me in my place. As I sit here and reflect on what trauma this manager may have gone through, I refuse to leave all this unsaid. These traumatized immigrant employees should be trained to understand that they give away bad vibes that are not welcoming and only foster stereotypes that diminish their value in this society. Did your read the other review where someone reports finding a rock in their food?? I did not read any more bad reviews about this supermarket-side kitchen. I will not return to this place. Whatever Latinamerican groceries I may want in the future are found in Walmart. read more

This place is so fun and the food/drinks here are delicious! From my experience, usually POC/ethnic places with a grocery store and restaurant serves some pretty delicious food! I had the Quesa-Birria tacos and they were fire ! Very hearty, savory and delicious! It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Plus being able to dip the taco in the birria stew broth was so fun. What I liked the most about the birria stew broth is that they didn't just give you the beef broth but it also has some of the meat, carrots, potatoes and chickpeas inside of it- this was nice and different from other places I have had birria tacos from- I much preferred this way! We also had a flan and tres leche which were pretty good- light and not too sweet. Margaritas here are also a must! I wish I here during the summer when the patio is open because it looks so nice and they sometimes have live music. Definitely make some time to check out the grocery store!
