I've never had authentic pupusas before and this is the spot to be for first timers! They were flavored well, had a lot of meat and cheese where the cheese was just melted to perfection. Great crust on the outside and the veggies on the side were perfectly seasoned and strong in oregano. The plantains were a nice sweet savory by itself and even better when dipped in beans and/or creama. Atmosphere was lovely and clean. First time. I had the rebuelta pupusa. Pollo guisado, chicken stew. Tender dark pieces with potato and carrot. It's the best rice I ever had at a Mexican/Latin restaurant and I gobbled it right up. At first I mixed it with the beans but discovered I loved in on its own. A good size medium horchata, watermelon drink, nice and sweet. I definitely want to try more items. The AC is just right. Prices here are super reasonable and the food is delicious! My friend and I each got two pupusas (chicken & cheese, and beans & cheese) they were so big we only could eat one. I realized I've never left a review for this place! Which is surprising because I go here all the time. Amazing pupusas - not just the pupusas revueltas but their salsa and slaw *drooling just thinking about it*. It's not a super huge area for diners (but definitely enough to sit down and enjoy if you wanted) and there's not a clear parking lot (but we've never had trouble finding street parking nearby). But the food is great and the service is wonderful as well. It's decorated in bright colors so a great place to visit in the winter when it's gloomy outside! read more

Can't say I ever had El Salvadorian food. So what you do when you don't know what to order??? You order what everyone else orders. We seen the waitress carrying out dish after dish after dish of there famous Pupusas. We got the Pork with cheese which was excellent. It was a lil chewy and crispy and when you add their house hot sauce it makes it that more amazing. The plain cheese was ok. Could of use some salt but still good. We also got beef empanadas. The dough was a little more thicker then I'm use to. Had a nice crunch and the filling was moist and seasoned well. I would order this again fore sure. We also had the chicken stew with beans and side salad. Can't go wrong with chicken stew which in my mind is a Spanish staple coming from the east coast. There's a sign outside advertising the Salvadoran favorite: pupusas. I ordered 6 different types since it seemed to be their specialty. I'm not an expert on pupusas, but I have ordered them from other restaurants and have always been a big fan. Overall, I wasn't impressed with Manana's pupusas. The filling was very bland for all 6 of them ((the Revuellta was the best of the bunch). I tried to add salsa to increase the flavor, but the salsa provided (in a red ketchup bottle) had a liquid texture and was equally bland. I would have had to douse the whole pupusas to come close to the flavor I expected/desired. On the bright side, the facility was very clean and pleasant. read more

If you don't try the pupusa here then you shouldn't have come. I've never heard of a pupusa, almost wish I hadn't, because now I'm an addict. I'm having flashbacks writing this. I can hear the small El Salvadorian (at least I assume) woman slapping the ball filled with salty chicharron and gooey cheese back and forth in her little hands forming a perfect stuffed disk, and then the sizzle when she plops it onto the flattop. I wish I were licking and shoving one in my face right now. Ok, so really though, this is probably now a favorite place of mine. If they keep making food like this I'll never care that the place is a hole in the wall. My husband came back from the restroom and told me I better not use the bathroom. Apparently the men's didn't have a toilet seat. Also, the server isn't jumping out of her pants with enthusiasm either, but nice enough and efficient. We tried the sweet corn tamale, azada taco, pastor taco, and the any combo pupusas. For the pupusas, there were three total, we had the pork, beans, and cheese one, pork and cheese, and the cheese with veggies. Not a single dish disappointed. Maybe one of the best pastor tacos I've had, but the pork and cheese pupusa was the hit. The crunchy fried cheese that oozed out of the pupusa was like a bonus cheese cracker, sooo good. You have to eat each bite with a bit of slaw, and a bit of the sauce. My only gripe here is that they charge like $1.50 for an extra 2oz cup of hot sauce or sour cream. We didn't order any extra, saw the price on the menu and was like DAAAYAM. They'll be seeing my face frequently here...but I'll bring my own extra hot sauce, and I'll skip a visit to the bathroom. read more

I don't know why I waited so long to try this nice restaurant. We were greeted at the door and shown into a large back area bar and restaurant. It was clean and attractive. The tables were widely spaced and we felt comfortable. We had prepared ourselves by reading reviews so we knew we wanted pupusas. We ordered a 3 pupusa combo and chose jalapeno & cheese, pork & beans & cheese, and chicken. The combo came with rice and beans. We also ordered an elote tamale (warm, not deep fried) and chicken tacos (deep fried), Our drinks were served along with homemade chips and a smooth salsa which I thought was wonderful - good flavor. Our food arrived quickly and quite hot. We had to wait a bit to eat things but because we were sharing it gave me time to split things up and move food around. The chicken tacos turned out to be rolled and more like tacitos. My husband was expecting more of a traditional shape but I love taquitos so I loved them. The jalepeno and cheese pupusa was especially tasty and surprisingly mild - there was a really nice grilled flavor in all of the pupusas. The only thing that I wouldn't order again was the chicken pupusa and not that it wasn't good, it just wasn't as good as all the rest. The elota tamale was like a tasty corn dessert and was really pretty - I am picky about tamales - the masa was so smooth and the shape was firm and even. It might sound weird but it was pretty. We are already making plans to return - looking forward to dining in the patio area and bringing family and friends. More: I think we talked to and served by the owner. He noticed I was taking a photo a building mural across the street so he told me about the one painted on the side of the restaurant and then walked us to it when we were done and leaving. Oh man. Talk about a hidden gem. My husband knew about this place from a visit with a friend something like seven years ago. And yet somehow he has never brought me here until now (bastard). What a delightful little restaurant. It's not fancy. There are maybe 10 tables in the restaurant if you want to sit and eat. They also appear to do pretty solid takeout business. Nothing fancy but totally great. It kind of reminded me of Chimborazo (but less crowded!). The menu is big with a lot of standards like tacos, etc. But we were pleased to see other items like churrasco and shrimp cocktales that we generally enjoy at other restaurants. However, being that it's a pupusa restaurant, we both went for pupusas the first time out. I love beans and cheese and would be quite content eating just that for the rest of my life. So I got the three pupusa combo platter, with two bean and cheese pupusas and one with pork, beans and cheese. Yes. I'm a pig. The food took a little while to come out but that was OK. The woman waiting on us was very kind, waited patiently for us to order and tried to be helpful as much as possible. The food was obviously made to order (hence the delay). The pupusas were delightful. Crunchy on the outside, piping hot on the inside, melty cheese, delicious beans and amazingly tender pork full of flavor. It was all delicious. Three pupusas was a lot (though I managed, don't worry). I also got a side of beans with a few chips (homemade) and rice, which was mixed with lovely vegetables so it wasn't just plain white rice. I was excited to try Manana after seeing the high yelp rating even though reading through the reviews, it was a hit and miss for folks. I feel obligated to report back that it was mehhhh, but this may be because I was avoiding meat dishes (recovering from stomach virus which u do not want me to go into -___-) SERVICE A fellow reviewer said they mistakenly went up front to order so I confidently told my friends, "don't worry, we can just sit here & we'll be taken care of." We also learned you don't pay until after your meal. When I went to pay they just told me an amount, no receipt that itemized anything. The guy that brought out our food was friendly though. FOOD My table of 3 ordered way to much but we wanted a good mix. We ordered: yucca frita, platano frito, bean & cheese papusas, cheese & veggie papusas, tamale, steak & chicken tacos, & horchatas. The papusas were not crispy on the outside & kind of thick. They were pretty large but just ok. The yucca frita is a meal all by itself! It comes with big chunks of fried yucca & also comes with big chunks of fried pork (not shown on menu). I liked the pickled cabbage on the yucca (same that comes w/ papusas) but the Korean in me pretty much likes pickled anything! I usually looovee fried plantains but these were so greasy. I'm still glad to be able to eat them in MN but probably wouldn't get these again. The tamale was strangely like corn bread. My friend really liked his meat tacos though so maybe that's the thing to get here! Overall, the food portions are pretty big. They have decent prices for how much you get. Hole-in-the-wall places are usually my go-to because food is delish but unfortunately the service & food were disappointing & left feeling greasy. Note that there's a papuseria in Minneapolis on Lake St so there's other El Salvadorean places in the Twin Cities. Pupusa is like a filled flatbread, fried up and so warm n delicious. Comes with slaw and hot sauce. add that shiz to ur pupusas. the slaw really makes it the best!! I like the pork and cheese pupusas last visit here I ordered too much food lol I think next time I will just order like 3 or 4 pupusas (we were served chips and salsa upon arrival) id love to try more stuff on their menu, but the pupusas are already the best so idk if I even need to try more lol why fix what not broke ya know I have tried yuca frita (fried cassava), its decent here, but i prob dont need all the extra calories in the future lol. The Papusa is love. If you are a fan of the Juicy Lucy, then this little place will give you the El Salvadoran version of that tasty delight. I've tried these at other places (La Hacienda, a taco coach on Concord, and at the Maxwell St. Market in Chicago) and Manana is the best. So what is a papusa you ask? Well it is a flour and corn ball, stuffed with beans and cheese, pork, whatever, that is then flattened and cooked on the grill. You then top it with a quasi spicy El Salvadoran cole slaw, followed by a vinegary hot sauce. It is crazy good. They also have standard tacos and other foods but the papusa is what I crave. Sometimes, you can also get some excellent desserts. I usually drink this all down with a horchada (think cinnamon flavored milk) or their grapefruit style punch. Prices have gone up a tinge since I first went, but you can still get out of there with three pupusa's and a taco for less then $9. (We paid $7.50 my first time there). My wife gets full on a taco and 1 pupusa and I like to have 2 pupusas. You can tell it's a family run joint as they put a lot of love and care into the place (it's clean) and their food (it's delicious). read more

I hate to be the one that brings down the curve, but I have to be true to my experience. 3.5 overall- I hope to be able to someday bump up my rating. After reading a number of reviews and seeing the mouth watering pictures I had to try it and suggested that we try it sooner than later. I was open minded despite the blah looking food sitting behind the glass. Keep in mind, looks can be deceiving. After a few minutes, one of the staff members finally approached us with an exasperated look of " yes, have you decided already"? There was no line. In fact, we were the only ones in there. J asked what a pupusa was. With a huff and a shift of the eyes she explained that it was a round piece of dough with cheese and meat or whatever people chose and went back to looking extremely put off. He then asked about the burritos and how big they were. She waived him over and kind of abruptly pointed at the menu. God forbid a person should ask a question about the cuisine. I had the 3 pupusa combo which was very impressive and tasty. The insides are like little surprises of goodness through out. I savored each one. The spicy cabbage was excellent as was the spanish rice. Didn't try the beans, but I don't like beans so it wouldn't have mattered. I was a bit aprehensive about the spicy cabbage at first since it was thrown in a plastic sandwich bag, but it was excellent. J had the chicken burrito which he really liked and loved the way the chicken was prepared and how fresh it was. Would have been a great experience had it not been marred by the unnecessary attitude we received for no reason. The guy checking us out was pleasant and friendly. Solid 4 for the food.Presentation wise it creates a little skepticism, but as I mentioned, looks can be deceiving. Like a first date, first impressions can speak volumes. Visited La Mañana Restaurant on Sunday June 16, 2024, which was a holiday. I was very surprised to see that the restaurant was not busy, there were only three table including mine. However, the reason for my low rating has to do with the very poor service. The cooks were absolutely unprofessional, signing Karaoke from the kitchen very loudly, which was different music than the one playing in the restaurant; therefore, you could hear the unprofessional detorsion. Our food took over 45 minutes to arrive, so I got up to see what was going on in the kitchen, which you can clearly see from a hallway, saw the two cooks messing around and eating food with their bare hands. No gloves, no hair cover and I asked directly the status of my food, to what they responded that they were working on. The server never stopped by our table to ask if we needed anything else. The few things that we asked for never came, never got our water, we order two appetizers and never got them. Very very dissapointed about the service and to see how deteriorated this place is. Additionally, I called the restaurant to speak with a manager and provide the feedback, however I was told that there was no one in charged, and the owners do not go to the restaurant at all. I had no choice but to submit a review and a formal complaint through the BBB. read more

I am a sucker for pupusas and when I was in the neighborhood looking for lunch I had to check this place out. Man, this place did not disappoint! My guy ordered a steak burrito which I took a bite of which was decent too. The jalapeno cheese pupusa got him sweating and he can handle heat! The pupusas, so many different varieties, it was hard to choose one, so I chose three! The refried beans were delish, some of the best I've had. Very authentic food here at Mañana. I got their street tacos many weeks in a row whenever I craved them. They also have pupusas since they are fundamentally a Salvadorian place, which are also cheesy and tasty.
