    Byron Burger

Food: The Byron Burger Drink: Oreo Milkshake Great for a quick bite, except for the service. Got the Byron which is the classic bacon burger with the Byron sauce and usual toppings of cheddar, lettuce, tomato, and onion. Solid burger that comes with fries and overall is just the right portion. Also shared an Oreo milkshake with a shot of rum which was the perfect pairing to the food. 4 stars for the food, but -1 because the staff paid little attention to our table even though there were only one or two occupied tables at the time and service was slow at every point of interaction which is unfortunate.

The burgers are great but the service leaves a bit much to be desired and, depending on the day, you may end up waiting a while, not only for your food, but for the check, as well. The menu isn't enormous, but it has a well-rounded selection of beef, chicken, and veggie burgers, as well as salads, drinks (including milkshakes), and decadent desserts. If you want a good old-fashioned burger, you can't go wrong with either the Classic or the Smoky burger, which is made with mature cheddar, streaky bacon, pickles, and a tangy BBQ sauce. They have plenty of sides, like regular fries, thick-cut potato wedges, and salads, but I can never order anything other than sweet potato fries if they're on the menu. They just add a little something special to those delicious burgers with their slightly sweeter and earthier flavor. The prices are pretty fair, though they don't include a service charge, so if you've gotten used to the London way of not having to worry about tipping, you might need to rethink that here. That is, if you feel the moody staff deserves it.

When a sign in front of a business says "Proper Hamburgers", you don't ask questions. You go in, eat and then ask questions about the experience so here are mine. It irks me when people dog on chains for their inability to produce anything resembling good food. What do you expect? This isn't an experience for the most refined palate, it's a hamburger. To that end, Byron does a good job: the meat was cooked to the desired level and the fries were pretty tasty, what with that crunch on the outside but warm and soft inside. Wash it down with a Fuller's and you're set. I wouldn't go out of my way to hit up a Byron next time I'm in London but if I'm near one and in need of food I would not rule it out.

I would definitely come here again. The staff were really friendly, the food was just as we expected, and it was comfortable and tasty. We were a group of about a dozen in for lunch and we booked a table in advance. They seated us in the back, where there was another similarly-sized group. I was impressed that they served both groups at about the same time with all the good coming out hot and no mistakes (that I could see). The back room, while not having the natural light of the front, had a really cool mural and a light art installation in the ceiling that you have to see to understand. It's like lines of neon light in the iconic shape of the tube map. Very cool. Good place for lunch. Tasty food. Good service. What's not to like?

This lovely wee burger place, which is part of a chain, is situated near many of the theatres and attractions at Leicester Square. After a morning of sitting in the fresh air on the double decker tour bus, we decided to stop in here for a bite to eat and some meat! We were seated very quickly despite it being a busy lunch time, and we browsed the menu while ordering a glass of wine and a beer. The menu features different types of burgers and sides with a few alternatives for those who don't fancy something between two buns! Myself and my other half ordered a burger with cheese, bacon, onion rings, pickle and BBQ sauce with a side of chips and coleslaw to share. The burger was fantastic- juicy meat with tasty toppings all held together by a great bun with melted cheese dripping from it. The chips had their skins left on which gave a nice rustic feel to the lunch. I was lucky enough to have the coleslaw to myself- this was a bowl of home made shredded vegetables in a delicious Mayo coating. I could have eaten a full bowl of it and still wanted more! The meal was reasonably priced and were had 2 burgers, chips, coleslaw and 2 drinks for around £40. I would definitely recommend this meat-tastic place if you are looking for a tasty lunch!

I wanted something with at least one good veggie option, they wanted something with meat, and it had to be somewhere in-between Camden and Canary Wharf, not too pricey, and ideally close to the city because otherwise our Italian friend probably wouldn't make it. And lo and behold.... THE FAT BEAR!!! It was all we wanted and more! This place is sort of tucked away and up some stairs above a pub. It's really just a room and a half, which makes it super cozy and they have a pretty awesome looking bar. It's got warm lighting which makes the atmosphere really nice. Their cocktails were delightful and the service was excellent. I will make a very strange observation that someone working there had a very drunk friend who just sort of made herself at home. Then more joined and it turned into me watching this table of really really drunk people trying to order food. Two of them ended up just falling asleep. It was super strange. Anyway, me being distracted aside, I really loved the cocktail I ordered- Sloe Boat To China, and everyone else seemed happy with theirs. I was dying to try the pimiento cheese starter and the fried pickles. The cheese was particularly sharp and delicious. The pickles were good, but quite skinny (I mean come on, you're in an American restaurant I was expecting some serious pickles). The vegan gumbo was super spicy and delicious. I was impressed and enjoyed it. My husband dropped the ball and ordered the regular jambalaya (with sausage) rather than the seafood one which broke my heart a little bit, because I really wanted to try it. You know, I guess that means we'll just have to come back. Oh also another bonus, this place has brisket which is really hard to find. I can't say how it tastes but my friend said he defo approves (am I becoming more British with these words, or just more annoying?) Anyway, to finish it off I had the oreo cheesecake which the bomb. I love oreos. And it tasted like oreo. So all was right with the world. A wonderful place to come if you have people who want to try American food, or if you have out of town Americans who are too scared to try other food, or if you have hungry friends that want to try cajun food, or if you just want to try some really yummy food.

Garfunkel's seems to be a casual dining chain here. The atmosphere is similar to Applebee's, BJ's, and Chili's in the US. Plenty of tables and booths inside. Kind of a hefty price, but the portion was fair. The cod was cooked well, and the fried batter was crispy. The chips (US - fries) seemed a little soft, compared to the ones I've had back home. I do have to note that the rest of the dishes were a bit bland, but that was also the problem at every restaurant I ate here. Service was a little slow, but it was crowded when we came. My partner and I visited on New Years Eve. I'm not sure if this is always the case, but the music playing was primarily American rock - like The Eagles, Neil Young, etc. It's fine, but not very in line with the classic, upscale feel. The bartending staff was top notch. I had a martini and my partner had a house Manhattan, both were perfect. We shared the iceberg wedge to start, a personal favorite, and this one was spot on. Great bleu cheese dressing, still warm lardons, and crispy, fresh iceberg lettuce. For mains, I ordered the aged Irish ribeye and chose to have it "gorgonzola encrusted". This was the first misstep. First of all, the grass fed beef stands on its own, I would never choose to add a sauce, but this was encrusted, right? Not so much. Here's the definition of encrusted from the Oxford dictionary: "Covered or decorated with a HARD surface layer". What I received was a steak smothered in (a very lovely) gorgonzola SAUCE with some bacon and spring onions. Had I known it was a sauce, I would have skipped it, or at the very least had it served on the side. Slightly disappointing, but the steak was perfectly medium rare and delicious. My partner ordered the hake. It was served with a prawn and a very tasty tarragon pesto. She said the pesto was the star. The fish was delicate and also well prepared. We shared sauteed spinach and roasted mushrooms, both delicious. For dessert we shared the banana and toffee mousse. This was the second misstep. This was a tasty dessert, but it was definitely not mousse. It was a very small sliver of banana bread (?). It had strong banana flavor and was served with rum raisin ice cream which was nice. It was also thankfully a very small portion as we were stuffed. Overall, a very decadent and elegant meal to ring in the new year!
