Took car in because our alternator needed to be replaced. Bryon Tire said that the alternator was working fine and that we needed a new battery. Paid $200 for a new battery/labor. After we picked up car and started driving down road, the battery light came on (because our alternator needed to be replaced). Pulled over and when I looked under hood I find out they didn't even replace the battery I paid them for. When I called them to explain what happened, they got very rude and told me that it just happens and that it's not a big deal. We had someone else run a test and confirmed that the alternator was failing and needed to be replaced. Never going back here again. They charge for work that they didn't do and they don't even attempt to make things right. read more

If I could rate lower I would. Took my truck to them for a spark plug change. Ended up getting it back incomplete with a horrible miss-fire and grease all over my passenger side fender. While driving from Chicago to Key West, our RV blew a shock near the right front tire. We just happened to be at the perfect exit for RV repairs. We found one mechanic who said they were too busy to help us and referred us to Byron Tire Company, which was about a half mile away. Across the street from Byron, there was a Camping World. My husband went into Byron's office and explained what happened. The girl came out and took the info from our RV that she needed to see if they had the parts necessary to fix it. Well, our RV is about 23 yrs old so I wasn't very hopeful. While she was looking up the part, I called Camping World to see if they had it. The guy there told me he didn't but could get it. I felt so relieved UNTIL he said that he wouldn't be able to fit us in for FOUR DAYS! Screw THAT! My hope dwindled again. :( The manager at Byron empathized with us and our situation. He said he could get the part and fix it immediately, even though THEIR stalls were full of cars that were ahead of us. He said the shock blew because the tire was bad and we drove on it far too long. He said he could put the spare on it but because it was our only spare, he didn't recommend it and we totally agreed with his advice. So, in addition to finding the shock, he also found us a new tire. I do know a bit more about cars than the average woman, and my husband knows a LOT about cars so I was prepared to argue a little, in case the cost was tremendous. There was absolutely no need! The price was reasonable and Byron didn't take advantage of our distress! I wholeheartedly recommend all locals and/or out-of-towners to have their cars/trucks/SUVs/RVs (or anything else Byron Tire Company repairs). Thank you SO much for everything!! Quick summation: Aptitude of mechanic = amateur to below average Untrained in the proper application of torque wrenches, refused to torque the lug nuts in the required star pattern after two requests to do so, poor overall attitude. Professionalism of management = rock bottom Never received a, "sorry we damaged your car and put you out for several hours" comment from anyone at Byron Tire. No one ever owned up to the indisputable fact that incorrect and seriously dangerous torquing procedures were and are still are being used. Waiting room = clean and pretty well laid out Bathroom = clean and pleasant Coffee pot = coffee machine was present but never did see the coffee pot. Staff = children and obviously so...little to no ability to communicate or field a legitimate problem that they were a part of. Price of service = ended up being really expensive resulting from their incompetence. Now for the details: For the safety of you and your family it would be best to consider my recent experience with Byron Tire in Byron, GA. Took my vehicle to Byron Tire on August 7th 2010 to have the wheels balanced and the front end aligned. Steve, the "mechanic", appeared none to happy. Steve aligned the front end first then balanced the tires. I knew something was going wrong when he used an impact wrench to do the final tightening of the lug nuts after mounting the tires. Correct protocol absolutely requires a precision instrument such as a torque wrench to effect final lug stud/nut torque specs.No torque wrench was used instead and impact wrench. Went home to replace the rear shocks and two lug nuts would not budge leaving me with a wheel that could not be removed. I checked the torque on each lug and found them to be at 125 to 130 foot pounds when spec required 90 foot pounds. Byron Tire over-torqued the lug nuts causing the lug stud threads to compress in these two instances. Apparently this dangerous shortcut tire shops make are all too common: "1. Over-torquing, which is "a huge problem, " according to Ortolani. "All bolts have a yield level. Torque is a precision, controlled stretch beneath that yield. Once a bolt stretches past its yield, it no longer relaxes. Think of a rubber band. When you over-torque, you stretch a bolt beyond its yield." Bolts that are over-stretched don't give a warning before they fail: they just snap. The best way to avoid over-torquing is to use precision calibrated tools, he says." http://www.moderntired... Moving along, I took the vehicle back to be repaired. Repair was done over several hours. Steve repaired the lug studs, mounted tires and amazingly put the impact wrench on the studs to again tighten the lug nuts at which point I told him to stop using the impact wrench. Steve protested and refused to stop using the impact wrench claiming that he was not putting more than 50 foot pounds on each nut. Then Steve retrieved his torque wrench and began doing the final tightening. However, Steve was not torquing in a star sequence at which point I requested that he torque the nuts in a star sequence. Steve said nothing in response and continued to torque the lug nuts in circular fashion. Moving along, the owner, Chris Hodges, indicated that the two lug nuts that his shop had damaged had to be acquired from Dodge because O'riley Auto parts did not have the correct lug nuts. Chris told me that he would see to it that the lug nuts would be at the shop on Tuesday August 10th for me to pick up. I showed up on Thursday the 12th and the lug nuts had still not been acquired as Chris had promised. Why am I not surprised that this shop has put me out yet again? Obviously, customer satisfaction and safety is not a priority of Chris Hodges at Byron Tire insofar as this customer is concerned. Incidentally, you should know a few other details. I asked an older staff person, Bobby, why on earth Byron Tire did not use a torque wrench to do final tightening on the wheel lugs. Bobby became immediately defensive indicating that the use of a torque wrench was not required unless one had alloy wheels. Such a statement set me aback as it was 100% incorrect as any credible mechanic or engineer can attest..see above! Think about your family losing a wheel as the studs sheer off at highway speeds due to over-torquing. Look up "wheel-off" accidents to see how common this is. Anyhow, at this point it became obvious that their lack of wheel torque policy was set by those in management and that this management was badly negligent or mechanically ignorant or both. One more item of interest: as I was leaving I asked Chris if he was going to implement a lug nut tightening policy using a torque wrench for final tightening. Chris indicated he may use torque sticks. I indicated that torque sticks are not as accurate as torque wrenches to which he replied, "torque wrenches are costly to calibrate." read more

My son took his car to Byron Tire, they said he needed a new radiator, fine $350, the next morning,after picking the car up it started running hot, he took it back they said it was a hose connected to the radiator and a plastic piece inside there broke , that caused this and it was out of their control, he took that back to have it fixed $55.00,he went to pick the car up they said when they turned it on the container holding antifreeeze exploded and it's going to cost an additional $196 to fix the problem , he is a college student in that area, and he was charged for things that should have been initially taken care of, the company has him in a situation that he has no choice but to pay for the repairs, I suggest to anyone take your care to the franchises, it may cost more but you will get honest work and will not be charged for the same work that was suppose to be done the first time.The mechanic tried explaining what happen and took no fault for the repairs what was the warranty he claimed we had for, I suggest you not go to Byron unless you have a vast knowledge about cars or you'll leave paying way more than expected read more

The service sucks since moved into new shop. Chris used to care about customer service and was available. Now he's never available and the service sucks. Went to the shop four times in one day and the problem never was fixed. I had to pay another shop to fix something that I had a warranty on at Byron tires. I replaced a number of tires in 6 months and was charged for the new tire and labor each time. These are not cheap tires and dont understand why they keep splitting. They never honored the lifetime rotation and balance. I'm going to chalk this up to an expensive lesson. read more

My fiance and I were stranded in Georgia at a gas station and was told to call this number. We called as soon as the shop opened and the tow truck was there to pick us up in less then 10 minutes. I swear it only took like 5 minutes. We knew it was probably the starter or battery. We were moving from Florida to Tennessee and did not plan for this. We took comfort from what a stranger told us at the gas station - "In Georgia - we take care of folks." And boy did Byron Tire company take care of us. We had been driving all night and had not ate anything so they gave us a ride to get something to eat and picked us up from the restaurant as well. We were told that our van was done when we got back. Unfortunately our final bill was more than what we had on us. We paid with all the money that we had on us and made a few calls home to make up the difference. As we quietly waited in the lobby praying for a small miracle of someone to call from back home and make up the difference in walks the man from behind the counter hands us our bill and says that you are all set and free to go. My fiance and I did not understand at first. He said that they have worked it out and we are free to go. I instantly started crying ( I am crying as I type this). My fiance and I have never been so humbled in our life. We have not forgotten what you did for us and will be sure to contact you soon with the difference that we owe. We promised to do so and we will make good on our promise. Please know that you have impacted our lives with more than just fixing our van. God Bless you all!
