Took my car to have an alignment done (Quoted $69.95) and was advised that it had a leaking rack and pinion, I told them I would replace it and then come back for the alignment so they said "OK we will charge you for half the alignment now ( paid $34.95) and you can pay the other half when we align it after you get the rack changed" I thought that was reasonable so after changing the rack and adding new tie rod ends I returned for the alignment. The mechanic showed me that he couldn't get the caster adjusted right due to the caster camber plates needed to be swapped to a different set of adjustment slots. I proceeded to help him reposition the driver side plate which he fought with for an hour (He wouldn't listen to my advise on the fast and easy way to do it even though I had originally installed them a couple of years ago.) I told him I would just take the car home and do the other side and bring the car back since it was their closing time. They charged me for 1 hour labor AND the full alignment fee ( $160.91) The passenger side alignment had not yet been touched yet and was NOT aligned yet. I took the car home and moved the passenger side plate to the other set of slots in about 35 minutes. I took the car back to Alan`s and they finally got it aligned, and they said "Okay no charge for today" then I explained to them that I had paid $195.86 for an alignment and 1 hour labor for when I helped the "mechanic" for an hour with the caster camber plate so I felt like the initial $34.95 should be refunded since I was originally told that I would only owe the other half of the alignment fee when I returned. My wife and I were stranded in the middle of nowhere, near Andersonville, GA with a melted serpentine belt. AAA recommended Alan's in Byron. They close at 5 and we were going to arrive by tow truck after closing so I called ahead. I explained my problem and asked if they could handle. A very nice lady assured me they could so we had our car towed to them. We were 6 hours from home so we had to make arrangements to stay overnight in a hotel. The next morning I called and they would look at it when they could and let me know. At about noon I called back and was told they would have to order parts and it would be 2 days before the parts arrived. So I rented a car to return home and go to work. My car would be ready on Friday and they said they would call me when finished. I made plans to go back and get it on the weekend. Friday came and no call so I called them at 4:50 and the nice lady explained they had received the wrong belt tensioner, and it would not be ready. She said they would get the right part on Monday and it would then be fixed. I cancelled my plans to pick it up on the weekend and waited until the following Wednesday to call. Wrong part again, this time it was the wrong belt. It would not be ready until Friday, again. I waited until Thursday and called early. Part was in, should be ready by closing on Friday. I requested they save the old parts so I could return them to my home mechanic who had inspected them prior to my trip and warrants his work. "I'll tell them," the nice lady said. I did not get another call to let me know it was on schedule so I called again on Friday at 4:00 and the nice lady said the mechanic would call me right back. When he called I requested he save the old parts and he agreed. I then spoke with the nice lady again to get the price, $728. At 6pm I got a call from Byron's area code and spoke with another mechanic who explained that he had finished the repair but was unable to adequately clean the crankshaft pulley and I would need to take it to a dealer, have the belt removed, the pulley cleaned and belt put back on. I picked the car up on Saturday (they are closed) and the receipt was inside. The fuse panel door was damaged, the fuse puller tool was missing, the seats were grease-stained and they had not left the used parts in the car as requested. When I looked at the receipt they had not just charged me for the tensioner, belt and labor but had also replaced two idler pulleys for an additional $300+ in parts. To be fair, it may have needed these parts but I received no call to inform me that anything was needed other than the original diagnosis of tensioner and belt. The fact they didn't provide those parts as I requested just makes me wonder if they were needed. So in the end it took 10 days, a ton of phone calls, two overnight stays, a one way car rental, a full day driving back to Byron and another day driving back home and in the end they charged $728 and recommended I take it to a dealer to have it repaired properly, did not return the old parts I requested and damaged an interior panel in the car to get to the fuses with my tool which they lost. I would find it very difficult to ever recommend them, even if you were stranded and desperate as we were. read more

had my vehicles timing belt and other misc items in that timing area changed, they were very courteous and professional. after i picked up my car i did have a oil leak from a leaking cam seal that was replaced during the timing belt change, all it took was a phone call and they sent a tow truck for my vehicle (at no cost to me) because they did not want me driving it with a possible severe oil leak. they repaired there mistake immediately and were very professional about it. not many shops would go that far and be that courteous and professional to help a customer. read more
