I called Naperville painting and Epoxy for an estimate to grind and paint the companies store room. Jerry came and took pictures. He was knowledgeable on the subject and he said Kevin would be sending a quote. i did get quotes from other companies and we settled on Naperville. They were very accommodating on the dates that we needed the work done by. The day that they were to start, Kevin asked for a deposit. The company wrote a check to Naperville Painting and Epoxy. Kevin called and stated that the bank bounced the check back because it should have been written to C&C painting. He came back and gave me the original check back and assured me that it was not cashed. Our bank said that it was. he took a picture and it was deposited. Kevin kept assuring me that it was not and that maybe there was a hold on it. The associates that came out did a great job and worked hard. The job was finished and I asked again about the check because the money was not back in the account. He told me he was working with the bank on it. Long story short, i paid the rest of the money without with holding the original deposit. I know, foolish me. Since then he stopped taking calls and emails. it was always one excuse after the other. Kevin knows that the money is owed but now all his voice mail is full and the Naperville phone number always bounces to his cell. I fell for the SCAM and still have not received a response. In early October I was researching epoxy flooring option for my basement utility room. I cam across a website, Naperville Epoxy Flooring (https://www.napervillepaintingandepoxyflooring.com). I submitted my info for a quote and later received a call from a Kevin Carter. We setup a date and time for him to come look at my project. Kevin seemed to be a nice individual and knowledgeable about completing my project to install an epoxy floor in my basement utility room. I received a quote via email from Kevin with various options for different types of epoxy finishes. I settled on a finish and we negotiated a price for the installation. On the day prior to the installation I emptied everything out of my utility room and placed it in the part of my finished basement. This included a washer/dryer, water softener, a shelving unit with bins of stuff including Christmas items, light bulbs, hobby items, towels, shoes, etc. The utility room was a catch all for everything storage related. The employee of C&C showed up the next day around 8:00 to start the process for the installation. I showed the C&C worked the utility room and he stated he would be prepping the floor by grinding it to accept the epoxy. I had removed the door to the utility room to remove my washer and dryer and had not repacked it. When I asked the C&C employee if I need to replace it, he said I didn't need to because he would be covering the door with plastic. As the C&C employee was moving in some of his stuff to work on the project I took my dogs for a walk around the block, about a 30-35 minute trip. As I approached my house I could hear my Nest smoke alarm going off in my house. When I entered the house I could hear it was coming from the basement. I ran to the basement and when I got to the there the entire basement was filled with what appeared to be smoke, but I quickly realized it was a dust cloud. I looked over towards the utility room door and saw the plastic was not fully attached to the missing door frame. I yelled from outside the utility room due to the noise from the grinder for the guy to "STOP, STOP!" He stuck his head out from the plastic 'door' to the utility room. I said "Why is all this dust coming out into my living space". He replied, "Oh, I guess the plastic came loose form the door. I'll re-tape it". I told him if he could not stop the dust from coming into my finished living space he would have to stop. I also asked him "Do you not have a dustless grinder or a wet grinder?" He said he could get a bucket of water to help keep the dust down. I then told him he had to stop the dust or I was pulling the plug on this project. I then texted Kevin Carter, the owner of C&C about what was happening. Kevin said, "It will create dust if that's an issue we can call it off." He also stated that the worker could wet it to improve it a little and they could use a walk-behind due to it (my floor) being so uneven. The C&C worker took 10-15 minutes to get a bucket of water and to re-tape the plastic to the utility room. He started grinding again and within two minutes the dust was pouring out of the utility room. I just told him to stop. I was stopping this mess, but the damage had already been done. After C&C 'cleaned up' and left I went into the basement where I had moved all my stuff out of the utility room and fond everything covered in dust. Inside the utility was worse. My brand new HVAC system, which was wrap by C&C before they started grinding (I assume) was covered in concrete dust. Why didn't they take down the plastic before they left? I texted Kevin and told him I would need to have my entire house cleaned because there was dust everywhere. He told me that they had only grinned for roughly 30 minutes and that he would not be paying for any cleanup and if that's a problem he will send me information from his lawyer. By the way, there are multiple tools and equipment available to eliminate the dust that grinding concrete creates. C&C should not be working in someone's house unless they get the appropriate equipment. You can really tell a lot about someone and the company they run when things don't go as planned. The painter for my basement Tony did a great job. I have a fieldstone basement and had some patchwork done and needed it to get painted to help waterproof. Have several dogs that aren't a fan of strangers and they didn't even know he was there. He was quick and quiet. Would use them again for any paint job needed! read more
