Found C&M through their brochures at a visitors center. Figured it would be a perfect birthday outing. Woke up to a gloomy day in Neskowin, but by the time I made it to Florence, the sun was shining. Emily was our guide as we rode away from the ranch and out onto the dunes. Whiskey and the other horses, were old pros at knowing where to go. Once on the beach it was like a whole different universe. Empty, except for stunning nature. The water, the sky, the sand dunes, the slow trot of the horses. It was amazing. I'd absolutely recommend this beach excursion ($145) over the other ride that stays in the woods. read more

The ride was fine, but some of the horses are EXTREMELY lean, while others had all of their hair under the saddle area rubbed off. I mentioned the missing hair, and the guide tried to attribute it to shedding. The way they treat their horses is abysmal. read more

My children booked this 1.5 hour trail ride on the beach the last time we were in Florence, Oregon. The staff was friendly, professional, knowledgeable and considerate with our different levels of horse riding experience. I was given a horse named, Samson. Samson and all of the horses are well behaved and trained. Even if you're not an experienced rider, they'll take time to work with you. The guide took us on a wonderful, gentle paced ride to the forest, dunes and then onto the beautiful sandy beach and the coastal view was amazing! We were able to trot and gallop on the beach with the horses, lots of fun. Overall, it was a great experience, well worth the trip! We will do it again. I highly recommend C&M Stables! read more

Did the dune trail ride. Lots of kids on the ride and the staff did a great job managing the whole group. The ride and scenery were both incredible. It gets windy as you reach the dunes and the sand blows a little bit in your face. Maybe about 15-20mins of the ride. But as you turn along the route away from the wind, it gets much better. The very young kids ride the horses by themselves with the group without the guides holding the reins, sandwiched between the adults. Excellent ride and 1.5hrs felt like it went by very fast. The horses were healthy & attractive, however the one they gave me as an advanced rider was a complete dud - which was understandable given it is a stable for the general public. The absolute worst part of the ride was the saddle, too small, stiff as as a board & literally held together w/ screws. I had to take my feet out of the stirrups w/o getting caught by the crabby guide. My hip joints felt like they were going to dislocate. The first half of the ride is pretty boring w/ a half mile slow walk on a rock hard gravel road before reaching the forest near beach dunes, ride up over the dunes and about a 100 yard trot down the beach on a sour horse and return.... First time rider and I was beyond impressed with qualities of my overall experience. Starting with safety precautions implemented by amaGzing staff, variety of beautiful well taken care of horses, trail leading to coastal view and value for your dollar. In planning our adventure their were other places closer to home, but we got more riding time and it was cheaper then their competitors. This was my first experience riding & I loved it. The horses were extremely well behaved (aside from one that threw a guy after kicking another horse that was too close). However, to be fair the guides did say to leave some space between horses. On the other hand, one of the female guides was extremely rude. Aside from her; it was a great day. read more

Eh, this place is so-so. I debated on giving 2 or 3 stars for the following reasons. Reservations- they were friendly, responsive, and accommodating Arrival- told to arrive at 1:30pm with the online forms already completed. We were told we'd be saddling your from 1:30-2:00pm. The (large) 1:30pm group waited until about 2:30 to start getting saddled up, with no explanation. Inconsiderate and inconvenient if you had travel plans. We left the stalls around 2:45pm- 45 min after scheduled. I've attached a picture with a time stamp (this was after leaving the stalls and crossing the highway.) The ride was booked as 1.5 hrs. The groups was a mix of kids and adults, all varying skill levels- it was my fault (and I'm upset with myself) for not booking a private reservation. The ride: you spend 30 min in a single file line going slower than molasses to the beach- incredibly boring, especially when you're forced to go even slower from all the riders taking videos and selfies instead of paying attention to their horse. Then you get "30 min" on the beach where you're able to break the single file line and trout it you want. Then it's 30 min back, single file, boring. I think this should be explained better on their site as the experience was misleading. Guides were okay. The lead gal didn't get friendly until we got back and it was potential tip time (but maybe she was just having a bad day, so can't give her too much of a hard time) Random comment- I thought it was funny the office area where they sell touristy stuff smelled like an old Vegas casino, reeking of cigarette smoke, but they were very strict about masks outside (until we left the stall) read more

Waited nearly an hour to mount up...a dozen riders of varying skills with 2 wranglers. I give great credit to the young women who led us through the woods and over the dunes. The run along the beach was lovely, however the return was chaotic. One rider who obviously did not have any experience or desire to be riding fell off her horse, causing a ripple of bucking and spooked horses. Fortunately no one was hurt, and we slowly made our way back to the stable, and yet another rider lost control of his horse and the wrangler stepped in. I was very glad to get back to my car in one piece. I am an intermediate rider, BTW. read more

This was my first ride since my horse died 6 months ago, so it was a big deal for me to enjoy this trip. He'd been with me almost 20 years and was my third horse. I have been riding for over 50 years, including foxhunting, jumping, dressage, trail rides, and horse camping all over the United States, Hawaii and Europe, so I know what I'm doing. From the brochure the setting seemed nice and I was excited about being able to trot and canter on the beach. I called ahead and reserved a spot on the two hour adventure ride for advanced riders, specifically because they allow you to canter. It cost nearly about $200 to take this ride and right out of the gate things started to go bad. The 20-something staffer told me we weren't going to be cantering at all and it got worse when she starting micro-managing my riding when we were barely 100 yards off of the property: "come two feet over here; speed up; slow down; do this -- don't do that." I was in the queue with the other 8 people and not running around or doing anything outrageous... Yeesh!! Can you imagine renting a bike and having a guide tell you to "put your feet back on the pedals, brake now, speed up, move closer, move farther" ... Really??? Am I riding this horse or is she? I'll bet that I've been riding for almost twice as long as my "guide" has been alive. Her condescending energy was invasive to my enjoyment. Her comments were unnecessary and micro-manage-y. By the end of the ride I felt singled out, as though her "safety tips" had morphed into an unspoken and inappropriate power struggle with me. I'm not a 4-year old! That petty nit-picking soured me. If you are an experienced rider then give this place a miss. I don't think it matters to them how much YOU are enjoying YOUR paid ride... it's all about the rules. (FYI, I've been a guide on a dude string for many summers, so I understand that there are safety issues to contend with, especially with novice riders -- but if they are so concerned with safety, then why are helmets optional?! My friend and I were the only adults who "elected" to protect our melons.) In summary, an ability to quickly discern a pro rider from a novice rider would be beneficial to their staff. As would an understanding of basic customer service to paying clients because... well shoot , I'd like to feel a modicum of respect for (a) the amount of money we'd paid them, and (b) my years of previous experience in the saddle. I'll skip C&M Stables next time I'm in town because, overall, the beach was beautiful, the horses were sound, but the staff was lame. read more

Yeah, we rode horses through the woods and to the beach. then we spent maybe ten minutes slowly meandering down the beach while the wind whipped sand in our faces before heading back to the stables. I think it really is a people problem here. The staff just doesn't seem to give a rip about you or your experience. There's a complete disregard for customer service or an engaging host. I didn't fear for my safety or anything, I just didn't enjoy myself either. read more

Sarah was our guide and she was fantastic! I hadn't been on a horse in nearly 20 years, but they matched the horse up to the person and their experience. Levi was a dream to be on. We trotted and had a good hour on the beach for our two hour ride. Yes, it's single file to/from the beach, but that is more for the safety of the horse and the riders (there are some narrow paths). We were supposed to ride up the coast a bit, but they were booked out, so that stable sent us to C&M. They fit us in on the last ride of the day - 5 PM and there were only four riders, so it was awesome. Great pricing, compared to other places up/down the coast, and the horses were well taken care of. I would highly suggest this stable - from beginner to experienced rider. I have been coming to Florence every summer for 20 years. I finally went horseback riding! I ended up having to join another group since I went as a single rider. We did the 1.5hr beach ride. They paired me up with a horse who was pretty funny. I've only been on a horse once before this but felt comfortable on him. We crossed the road and went into more of a forest area. It was so pretty. We went into more of the dune area then up and over the dunes onto the beach. It was a gorgeous day! The sun was out and no wind until we got to the beach. We saw a bald eagle flying around the beach since they nest there. They took us down the beach and then took pictures of us in our group. I was grateful for it since I was by myself. We then turned and went back up the beach and were able to trot. It was a gorgeous ride back. Zeke and Courtney were our guides (I think that was their names) and they did a great job pointing out plant and animal life on the ride. I highly recommend wearing a decent jacket on the beach ride. It did get very chilly. This will become apart of my annual visit! read more

We make it Florence once a year to visit family and this trip was the first time we made it out horseback riding. We booked a 90 minute beach ride, I thought 90 minutes seemed short but it was plenty of time "in the saddle." Reservations were easily made over the phone and checking in/signing waivers was quick. This is no reflection on the experience but rather a a staff member. We had a small group and although she was super social with the other couple she barely acknowledged us which ok fine, they were vibing, cool for them. Then the tour guide offered to take photos which I declined, she took photos anyway in a literal stamping feet huff no less which quite frankly I said no politely and she should have respected that. Then as we dismounted she ignored us as we stood there for a few minutes and continued chatting with the other couple. We finally just walked away, I thought it was odd that we are to tip the tour guides given that treatment. The ride and the gentleman at the front was nice. It was a great experience for our family. Stop by to inquire their prices and call back same day to see if they have an open spot. They did and check in before 4:30, did all the paper works and waited to be called. 5:45 when everybody is all set and off we go. We did the 1 hour tour by the dunes trail/beach view. Our 6yo son enjoyed it even though Zeus is always hungry -keeps eating grass, Tennessee likes to wonder around but Rascal is the most behave one never gives me trouble. The guide check on us to make sure all is good, he even took some pictures of the group which is kinda hard to do. Overall I would recommend this place. Thanks for a great experience read more

I took the 2 hour ride to the beach, with two 13 year old girls who have little to no experience. Emily was are guide she was very polite and experienced. We where able to trot on the beach and the girls loved it. They rode Bailey and Duncan they both wanted to be in the front much to their delight. That said i rode Yahzi who had one speed and that was slow very slow. I highly recommend this stable and will return again although i would not ride or recommend riding Yahzi. read more

This place boasts of being the only riding stable on the Central Oregon Coast. When you're the only game in town, I guess you don't have to worry about impressing the tourists! For $68 per person, we got to ride horses for about two hours. I thought that was mighty steep, especially considering the SLOW pace of the walk down to the beach! On our 2 hour beach ride, it seemed that we only spent about forty minutes at the beach. Our "guides" maintained a sluggish pace, talked on their cell phones, talked to each other, and generally ignored the paying customers except to yell at the horses for eating grass. To add insult to injury, once we were approved to trot on the beach (walk and trot were the only "approved" gaits on this ride) nobody in our group could keep their horses trotting for more than five or ten seconds. Even though they claim to have horses for all ability levels, these horses were just trained to follow each other. They didn't want to walk in the water or move above a crawl. The weirdest thing happened when we returned to the stables. The guides, in their typical ignore-the-customers fashion, disappeared to unsaddle and let out the horses without a word of direction for us. Meanwhile, the three groups of riders milled around the office waiting for the owner to come out and give us back the keys that we surrendered before the ride. Everyone had left their keys because he assured us they'd fall out of even the deepest pockets. Twenty minutes passed, and the guides didn't call down to say they'd help us in a moment. They just disappeared. Someone from another party spotted the owner driving a tractor across his property. My husband said screw it and went riffling through the drawers to find everyone's keys. We left feeling extremely disappointed. read more

I have been here before, and every time has been a great enjoyable experience without a doubt. This time I was taking my husband for his first time horseback riding. We chose to go in November (a colder, WINDIER, rainier month as any Oregonian should know, since that is typical Oregon fall-winter-spring weather for you) but we were fine with that because it usually means less people, this place does and will get crowded in the summer because it's popular. So we went inside and met the owner who was an older man, he wasn't rude, he was professional and friendly and gave us the paperwork to fill out, he even let us borrow a band to put around our neck for our camera. There was an adorable NON aggressive tini tiny dachshund, who we pet and followed us outside to the gazebo. As we were filling out paperwork another man came out who was very friendly and started to explain some things to us and offer us his insight, he was very polite and helpful and stayed out there talking to us for most of the hour wait (since we showed up early and stayed) There was also a friendly Belgian Milanese who we played fetch with, he was a very calm dog, I didn't hear him bark or get over excited once. Finally when it came time to ride one of the guides came and assigned us horses, and explained a few details before helping everyone on their horses and making sure they were comfortable. Then the other guide came out and they explained the rules and procedures of the ride, they also explained that you would need to stand up in the stirrups when the horses went to the bathroom because it would help the horse relieve pressure off their bladder/bowels to eliminate easier, which I mean isn't that big of a deal because the horse is already carrying you around for a couple hours. We took a ride through an area with trees, and pastures, some black berry bushes before getting to the sand dunes and finally the beach. It was very rainy that day prior to the ride, however the rain stopped for the entire ride which was wonderful, it was a little windy but nothing overly drastic for the area and time of year. We rode single file the whole way to the beach so that it would avoid the horses biting, kicking, or fighting with each other, and were told to keep 2-3 horse lengths in between us. Horses are strong, however it isn't hard to steer them around or jerk the reins so they stop eating the grass. Finally when we got to the beach we were allowed to trot and spread out more to enjoy ourselves, the guide on the entire ride asked multiple times if we were enjoying ourselves, were happy to answer any questions, and were socializing with the riders more than each other. One guide was riding a horse in training who was a little more green. She had control of him, however said he was not ready for customers to ride him until he had more training. When we got back to the stable the guides helped everyone off their horses and we were greeted by the older man who asked if we enjoyed ourselves and how the ride was. The owner was inside the building, and thanked us for coming. My husband enjoyed himself which was a big reason for going to the horse stables, also knowing that I've enjoyed myself here I wanted to share that with him and I wasn't in the least bit let down about the experience nor was he. read more

My sister and I went for a beach ride today with 10 other riders and 2 guides. The day was beautiful and thankfully the other riders were all nice. My assigned horse was great as was our lead guide Leah. The reason I did not give 5 stars was due to how much time we spent prepping and waiting vs the actual ride time and that our second guide rode in front of us on her phone paying no attention to anyone or anything. She also barely spoke or answered questions. Will go again and hope for smaller group. read more

My husband and I took the 2 1/2 hour "Morning Adventure" ride for more experienced riders. It was absolutely wonderful. There's about a 15-minute walk along a trail with wild blackberries you can reach out and pick (late July/early Aug). The beach ride was gorgeous, our guide was congenial (Arianne), and the horses were well-behaved (Sampson and Buddy). We were able to walk, trot, and canter (after some serious encouragement-these horses are more push-rides than whoas) by the waves, and the horses were not afraid to go into the water. I highly recommend the Adventure ride! There are other rides for beginners; we passed them and everyone seemed to be having a good time. Note: the beach is about 10 degrees cooler than the barn area and very windy. I'd bring cotton for your ears and a light jacket. read more

My husband and I had a beautiful beach ride on January 2. We had planned just a dune ride, but the owner suggested going for the beach ride as the day was so amazing. He was 100% correct! The weather was absolutely stunning with not a bit of wind! Very rare day at the beach and well worth the little extra cost. The horses were very typical stable horses-they follow the guide and lead horse and don't take much direction from the rider. That is what you expect on a stable ride. These horses are well trained to carry the inexperienced riders that come out there. My husband, who has only ridden a time or two many years ago, had a blast. I have been taking lessons the last year and found the horse a little less fun than my lesson horse, but I still enjoyed the ride. Our guide, Lauren, was friendly and delightful.
