Amazing first time ATV experience with Torex Rentals!…read more Friend and I made a last minute decision to ride ATVs in our last day on the Oregon Coast and we found Torex Rentals on google. Booking was easy - there was plenty of availability on the website for the following day so we reserved an hour rental at 9am for two riders. The rental office is less than 10 minutes away from downtown Florence, located near the Oregon Dunes Natural Area. The website states to come at least 45 minutes early, and I would recommend arriving an hour before just because it does take time to set up. We checked in with the staff around 8:15am and filled out the paperwork. One of the employees explained the forms to everyone and then afterwards we watched a safety education video. This was very informative! Most of these types of videos are pretty dry but this one was actually done very well - good production. Next, we got helmets, googles, and a fanny pack to secure our personal belongings. There are also cubbies to hold your items. The employees explained the ATV features and then guided us to the dunes. We got familiar with the ATV during this practice stretch. After that, we were free to explore the dunes and it was so much fun! I was a bit nervous but the safety video made me feel more comfortable. The dunes were mostly empty at the time which was great! Note: The 60 minutes includes the return time so we roamed around for 50 minutes and used the last 10 to get back to the office. I appreciated how we got a lot of freedom with the ATVs. He showed us how we could drive passed the dunes to drive on the beach. It was really cold there! On the way back we got lost in the trees and then stuck in really deep sand on a steep hill! We called Jared and he and another nice young man came right away in a jeep to help. They were so nice about it! They used a winch to get the 4 passenger-buggy unstuck. We followed them back to the office and they helped us avoid the big cliffs! Quite an adventure!

Park, head inside to buy your tickets, then write your name on the board outside near the waiting area. The guys will pull up in the buggy's, you'll climb on in, and away you go! 45/60 mins of twists, turns, and flying through the sand dunes along the beach. It doesn't get any better than this! Taking pictures is close to impossible, and you'll want to live in the moment. Wear clothes and shoes that you're comfy in. On rainy days, make sure you wear something that you don't mind getting slightly dirty. Did I mention how fun this is?? If YKYK. If you don't, this should be a must try. Just do it!

When they went over the waivers and what our day would include they were detail oriented and thorough to make sure we would stay safe and prepared for any terrain! They were quick and efficient with our check in to get us out on the dunes as quick as possible. I also mentioned that I was a returning customer and It was my birthday and the gentleman helping us told us he could offer us an extra hour on our ride! We knew they were nice reliable people when we started getting low on gas a little over 2 hours in and they met us to refuel and continue our adventure! There are people near you in every direction. And it's Sept of 2021 and some Hicks were burning stuff despite the fire ban. It was so loud we couldn't sleep. Everyone was in such close proximity to each other that a yelling match broke out. We got there around 5PM and left at 9:30PM because of how sketchy it was there. Not to mention people kept walking through our camp site??? Like there was a collective lack of respect from everyone there. Hoping we can get a refund since we only stayed 4.5 hours.

There's also good beach access for ATVs, fishing, birding, and dog-walking (but watch for Snowy Plover Seasonal Beach Restrictions between March 15 - September 15). Stagecoach Trailhead provides access to several trails, including the accessible Lagoon trail and the longer Waxmyrtle trail, which meanders through the coastal shore pine forests and along the river to the beach. Trails here include barrier-free boardwalks, walks through coastal rhododendron and wax myrtle groves to the beach, and a loop through the spruce forest that makes a stop at remote campsites along Siltcoos Lake. There's a $5 day use fee, or you can use one of the many passes that work here. Camping costs $20 per night for a single unit with a 2-vehicle parking limit. It's open year-round, and probably not a bad deal considering there's potable water and flush toilets. Plus there don't seem to be lots of campers here so maybe it'll be extra peaceful for you.

Alex and Jeremy helped us out, were super accommodating and welcoming. Jeremy also talked to us about how the helmets are cleaned (steam cleaned before going into a sanitizing oven for 3 hours) which was important to know. We hesitated on top of a dune and ended up getting stuck but we gave Alex a call and he and Jeremy came up to help us right away. When feeling a little nervous about approaching a dune, Alex and Jeremy were incredibly helpful talking to us about it too. Jeremy then demonstrated what to do when driving up to the top of the dune before going down the other side which helped us feel more at ease. Alex and Jeremy are excellent and deserve much praise. The pricing is also better compared to Spinreel too. Alex definitely seems like an experienced leader there. He and Jeremy are a great team and are professional, kind and knowledgeable. If you're new to dune riding, might want to get the guided tour or play it safe and ride slow. The dunes can have drop-offs or be too steep going up and you need to know how to navigate. We opted for the 2-hour self guided tour in a 4-seater with awesome power. Didn't get stuck at all and plenty of time to go to the beach twice and run from east to west of the entire dunes. Checking in was easier than I thought as most forms and videos are done prior online. Got our safety brief of where to go and where not to go, speed limits, and then how to call for help. Don't show up in crocs or open toed shoes as you'll need to be protected. The deposit of the vehicle is quickly returned to your card after you're done riding, as long as there's no damage. Professional staff and quick to get you out riding. Arrive 30 minutes prior to your time so you can ensure everything is done and you're ready to ride!
