We stopped here on our route across the state to pick up a small part we needed. We were greeted by…read morea blond lady (I'm assuming the manager or owner) who was super rude. Very ironic considering the sign coming into town a few yard before the store says "welcome to the friendliest town on the loneliest road". The pavement outside was freshly done with cones around it. We tested it to make sure it was dry. Half the cones were fallen over and there was no tape around the cones. So we didn't park there of course. Cones would indicate not to park and tape would indicate not to walk. (Later we noticed s sign to use back entrance that had fallen over on the side and couldn't be read). Anyway, the lady was really nasty about us walking in the front door. She spoke to us like no business owner should ever speak to a customer regardless of how you feel. Point being, take your business elsewhere unless you're desperate. Wait until the next town where they respect your business.

On our way to Yucca, AZ the last few days of Jan 2022, our transmission went out in our Dodge diesel truck about 79 miles north of Ely, NV. We got a tow to Ely and the tow driver told us the best mechanic in town was Cruise In Auto repair. We didn't have much choice. One mechanic insisted the problem was the transfer case and ordered a new one. When the shop manager got back from time off, he checked it out and said not the transfer case, it needs a new transmission. A brand new transmission was ordered from salt lake and we waited 6 weeks for that to get to Ely. Before installation, I mentioned to Dan at cruise in that the coolers need to be checked and replaced if they're no good I was told oh no, we checked those and they're fine. $6k later we finally got the truck back and home to Montana. The truck doesn't get a lot of use at home, but we used it to come back to yucca in Jan 2023. The first few days of April we packed up and left for home. About 15 miles northwest of Kingman, the truck stopped shifting. The transmission was burned up after only 4000 miles. A new transmission had to be ordered and is being installed today at a VERY reputable shop in Kingman. Turns out that BOTH coolers are completely plugged and were not properly flushed and cleaned at the time of installing the transmission a year ago in Ely. So we're waiting for new coolers and transmission to be installed. The Ely shop says they did flush the coolers by "using a couple cans" of cleaner, which is ineffective. They don't have the equipment to do it the right way. That caused the new transmission to fail We would have been better off paying a few thousand to get towed all the way to Vegas or Kingman last year. Would have been cheaper in the long run if that had even been an option.

We are used to stopping at all kinds of different convenience markets on our trips, and this one definitely hits a low-water mark. Gassing up was fine, and they have the typical convenience store set of snacks and drinks. However, when one of the girls went into the bathroom, she immediately came back out with a scowl on her face, shaking her head. I think I heard her say "Disgusting". So we all used the mens restroom (which really wasn't disgusting, but rather was only extremely dirty). Since it was a one-hole-er, it took quite a while to get 11 people through, and personally, I wanted to take a shower afterwards. On the plus side, if you are on the road, and if you need/want to purchase massive amounts of alcohol (Ely is on the way to Vegas), this may be a good place to stop. They had cases and cases and cases of all kinds of alcohol stacked up along the walls and stacked in isles all around the store. I've seen full-on Liquor stores with far less stock than what this place has, and Ely is a pretty small town. Makes you wonder... [ Summer squash... ...and some aren't! ]

Francisco not only tried to help me figure out what was wrong with the truck, he also called my driver and walked him through how to manually pull up the codes from the dash to attempt to diagnose the problem at no charge. We exchanged several phone calls and he went to great lengths to assist us and was very helpful and knowledgeable, even after he knew that we were not going to be needing his services in West Wendover and decided to have the truck towed back to Sparks, NV. It was obvious to me that Francisco was not only extremely knowledgeable as a Diesel mechanic but also a very caring and thorough individual. Three weeks later he called me to tell me they can't work on the car but he will give me an estimate what it needs and how much it will cost. When i came to pick up the car it was all dusty and the roof and trunk were covered in oil. He came out apologized and kinda wiped it then charged me $160 for an estimate that he did not have ready and told me that he will email it to me and I am still waiting on that email since 12/5/2023. Very disappointing
