Where do we start on how much we enjoyed working with Cherlyn? As many couples did due to the COVID-19 pandemic, my wife and I had to push our wedding back almost a year (from November of 2020 to October 2021). Throughout the turmoil of moving our wedding date and working with multiple vendors without a coordinator, Cherlyn displayed such a high level of empathy, flexibility, communication, and professionalism. Cherlyn was an absolute joy to work with. We contacted her four short weeks before our big day and were a little worried that we weren't going to lock in a photographer with such short notice. Cherlyn was super responsive and very quick to get us a quote that met our needs for our event. Luckily, she had our date available and we got the ball rolling from there. Cherlyn is an excellent photographer and is reasonably priced! After talking with Cherlyn after a few other photographers, I knew Cherlyn would be an ideal fit because she seemed very down-to-earth and easy to get along with. This was important because my husband and I can be camera shy, and I knew we would need a friendly and patient photographer! We booked Cherlyn for engagement photos and 5 hours at our wedding. Our photos turned out fabulously, so much so that we didn't even know we could look that good in photos and we have many favorites from both photo shoots! I am glad we did the engagement session. This allowed us to feel comfortable taking pictures before the wedding. Cherlyn helped guide us in poses and wandered with us around Sausalito to capture beautiful sunset and bay shots. We ended up going to Saulsilto and taking pictures on a ship that my husband helps charter for his work-- Cherlyn in fact encouraged us to do this, in part because she has a background in sailing. I am so happy we did! Our nautical-themed engagement shoot is one we'll fondly remember, full of its ropes, helms and masts (and a few Titanic shots at the bow =P). For our wedding, we had originally planned to do photos before the wedding. We ended up changing this last minute for fear that the nearby botanical garden would dirty the dress, and I really appreciate how flexible and understanding Cherlyn was! We re-scheduled the botanical garden shoot to after the wedding (really glad we did this! The dress picked up quite a bit of debris) and started photos when guests arrived. Cherlyn was so patient! I felt bad because it was so hard for us to walk anywhere and take pictures without diving into conversations with guests, and family and friends (and me and my husband even!) at times ignored instructions from Cherlyn. I was so lucky to meet Cherlyn at a wedding show in San Jose. I wanted to find a photographer who had shot before at my venue, and just my luck she was from Oakland and had previously shot at the Brazilian Room. I was impressed with Cherlyn's style from the very beginning. She is very easy going and accommodating. She shot our engagement, wedding and even post wedding photos. We had to reschedule our engagement photos and post wedding session due to weather issues. Cherlyn always made time due to my husband's busy work schedule. Cherlyn and her assistant, Max were our photographers for our March 2015 wedding in Newcastle, CA. I met Cherlyn at a wedding show in Sacramento. I looked through her display albums and I really liked her documentary style and easy-going personality. She was very easy to work with and helped us create a customized package for our needs. When I saw my wedding preview gallery (provided to me the day after my wedding - well ahead of the scheduled date in the contract) I was blown away by how beautiful the photos were. The joy, beauty, emotions and colors of that day were perfectly captured. Cherlyn really has a gift at taking beautiful photos that are authentic to the moment. I have been to a lot of beautiful weddings, each unique in its own way. My wife and I got married in February of 2018 and Cherlyn captured it all perfectly! I was so pleased with our experience with Cherlyn and cannot recommend her enough. She's friendly, super easy to work with, professional - and a great photographer. At our first meeting she explained her style and showed us some of her work, which we liked a lot. For our engagement photos I was a little apprehensive because I'm not that comfortable in front of a camera (especially for a bunch of photos!), but Cherlyn helped me feel natural and it comes across in the end results. On the wedding day, we had already worked with her to create a timeline and a list of shots we wanted to make sure that she got. Cherlyn and Max started early; they each photographed us getting ready (at different locations). I really treasure the photos she got of me and my bridesmaids getting ready (she got a super cute one of my mom seeing me in my dress for the first time!). At the venue Cherlyn kept everything under control and took our family and bridal party portraits. I'm pretty silly, so she got a few really good portraits of my family goofing around, which I love. The actual ceremony photos are also wonderful; she got all the details. I love looking at everyone's expressions during the vows. And of course the candids and dancing photos are great, too! Looking through our portfolio was so cool. It was like reliving the wedding all over again. I loved seeing shots of things that I didn't notice on the big day because I was too busy. Cherlyn did a great job of choosing color or black and white for different photos. I shared the portfolio with our families, and they both want copies of a bunch of photos. :) read more

Look no further, Cherlyn was absolutely amazing to work with. My wife and I were so lucky to connect with such a talented photographer. Cherlyn captured our style to a t in our engagement photos. She knew exactly where in Oakland (Jack London Square) would have every shot we wanted. We used one of the shots as our save the date. Cherlyn was very communicative, personable, and professional. She answered all our questions and made us feel at ease. She was able to connect with our day of coordinator and work out logistics without stressing us out one bit. I'd heard so many stories of crazy wedding venders and Cherlyn was awesome. One thing I really noticed was how calm she was while shooting our family shots. We had a ton of candids and she knew exactly how to direct my family and capture their good sides! We worked with her second shooter Max as well. The were both great and we felt assured that the day and night would be photographed brilliantly! After the wedding, Cherlyn was in communication about when our photos would be ready to view! When we accessed our online gallery, we were both thrilled. I was most happy with the family photos and dance floor shots. Our wedding party getting ready candids and time right before the ceremony photos still strike emotion in me. My one regret is that we didn't have Cherlyn stay for the entire reception (even the after party!). We didn't plan for a grand exit but one naturally happened and was only captured on grainy cellphone pictures. Wish we had Cherlyn there at the end of the night. All in all, we really hit the jackpot with Cherlyn. With wedding expenses adding up, it's nice knowing that we had someone who gave us 110% and was super reliable and genuinely cared about us! read more

There are many excellent wedding photographers out there, but Cherlyn is exceptional because not only is she a talented photographer, she is also incredible with people. She was the best decision we made in planning our wedding. She was a great resource for us as we planned our "budgeted" wedding (budgeted is a relative term here in the bay area). She was super easy to work with and highly adaptable to our timelines throughout the wedding planning process. One of the best things about Cherlyn is how she makes us feel as if we are her only clients, even though we know how busy she is and how many couples she regular works with. She is always quick to return emails and text messages, and had our engagement photos turned around so much sooner than we expected. She is organized and reliable, always showing up 10-15 mins earlier than the appointment time. Her contracts are clear and present no surprises. She goes above and beyond for her clients. Let me give you an example of her value. We just had our wedding a few days ago. Everything was going according to our wedding timeline until the cocktail hour after the ceremony (about 10% into the event LOL)...then the timeline REALLY went out of whack because the toasts went much longer than we expected...it was no one's fault, really. In fact, the toasts became one of the highlights of our night because it allowed my husband and me to connect with our guests on a very intimate basis as our families and friends told stories about the two of us (my dad's speech shed a number of tears in the room)...we felt so much love. It truly grounded us. Anyway, I digress. In the end, my husband and I decided that we were going to nix the cake cutting, the bouquet toss and the garter toss because we would rather spend the remaining of the night hanging out, chatting, dancing with our families and friends. She rolled with the punches, and in fact, stayed an hour later than what was in the agreement so that our guests could use the photo booth a little bit longer...she even continued to capture our night for us. She did more than what was expected and we can only give her the highest recommendation. There is so much heart in this girl, you won't regret going with Cherlyn!!!! read more
