Their customer service level went over and beyond my expectations. I purchased a pair of glasses a few months back. I noticed a few flaws on the frame and contacted them. They had me bring in my glasses so that the Dr. can take a look at them. Within a week a brand new pair was ready for me to pick up since they style I ordered is no longer in stock. They really back up their products and the attention they provide to their customers is well worth the time and money spent at their location. Thank you C2020. I had a very pleasant experience at C2020 this week. I stopped in to check out glasses on my way past and was excited to see the great variety of choices they had. Candice (the sales associate) was very knowledgeable about all the brands that they carry and even gave me the model numbers of the frames I liked. Candice helped me find out how much my insurance would cover and never tried to push me into anything. I thanked her for her help and came back the next day and scheduled an eye exam. Dr. Poon was very personable and very excited about all the brands that he carries. They take pride in their store and it shows with the service that you receive. They correctly ordered my contact lenses and do a thorough eye exam. Unfortunately they understaff their store, and in the past couple of years of patronizing the business, I have come by 3 or 4 times during business hours when the door was locked and a post it note on the door said "back in 15 minutes." On one occasion I had left work early to pick up my contacts in the hour before they closed--not the best time to take a break. This has been consistently annoying and I'll be taking my business elsewhere. I think a retail store with posted open hours sets an expectation with customers they will be open then. It's then disappointing when they are closed during their business hours. One way around this would be to post hours including times for closed breaks, the way some restaurants do between lunch and dinner. That way they can have only one staff person on duty who can humanely get a break during their day without disappointing customers. All about setting expectations! I do Hesitate to give less than average rating for this place however no effort was made to apologize or compensate for the MONTH I waited for my glasses to be tinted "dark as possible" (which was returned not even close) Mind you this is a two day process at most and they retained my money for the service during this time. I will say the staff are nice but hardly makes up for lack of competence. Unfortunately I won't do business there again. read more

I've found my new eyecare home. If the friendly welcome (love the tea and blueberries!) and extremely thorough eye exam weren't enough, Dr. Poon gave me the best fitting for contact lenses that I've ever had - and I've worn contacts for over 20 years. Seriously, I never knew contacts could be this comfortable. I thought the collection of frames was small but well chosen and I found a pair that I really like. I also appreciated the 10% discount when they found out I didn't have insurance. All in all, a great experience. Poon is a great optometrist. Very professional, thorough, and allows the patient to involve herself in the examination process, very patient with the questions/answers and really understands and cares about the need of the patient. I came in for a contacts prescription upgrade and I got what I was looking for. I called around to other optometrists in the area, and Dr. Poon's services are very, very competitively priced. I ordered some contacts and they came in promptly (although just ever so slightly overpriced - but hey - I literally saved like $100 on my eye exam which was much more thorough/educational than I thought it would be and I've had a bazillion other eye exams in the past). He has a receptionist/admin person on some days of the week who is really nice, friendly, and knowledgable as well. Great local business. Oh, and - VERY good looking glasses selection. I just went here for the first time today. My glasses were smashed to pieces at work today, and they were able to see me right away. Soren was really friendly and helpful. She offered me some Orangina, and brought a small bowl of kumquats and strawberries, which was quite a lovely touch. She helped me for a *very* long time while I hemmed and hawed over several different frames. In the end, we ended up ordering a pair that was slightly different than the frames that I liked the best. The frames come in a wide variety of styles, and are available for every price range. She said that she would put a rush on them if at all possible. I can't comment on the quality of the frame selection here, since I just went in to get an eye examination and a prescription, which I used to purchase frames I'd fount at Next. The resulting lenses seemed a little strong, but I thought that my eyes had just gotten bad. A year later, as I learned from the opthamologist (note: not an optician) who just gave me a thorough work up and checked my prescription, the scrip C2020 wrote me was too strong and ran the risk of damaging my eyesight. Their examination and prescription services are not competent. Get your exam elsewhere. read more

C2020 is quite a gem for people who loves nice modern frame/ sunglasses. The service is very friendly and casual in which I found some optometrist shops are rather uptight. Yes, some frames may be a bit pricey but it's the brands itself which set a higher bar. read more

This is the 3rd time I've purchased glasses from C2020, and each time, DJ has been superb in terms of understanding the impact my very oddly balanced prescription has on the types of frames, and recommending excellent frames that match my stylistic preferences. (Several prior opticians have commented they think my prescription is incorrect because the balance is so distorted.) DJ has been so professional and helpful that he once recommended I wait a few months for a specific supplier's line that might work better for my "Asian" bridge. I'm glad I took his suggestion. They were the only place in Berkeley that offered to look at my eyes for free because I thought I had a contact stuck in my eye. The man who helped me (I can't remember his name, he was a bald(ing) Asian man with glasses) was very polite and patient, and said he would do a few checks. He said he would only charge me if removal of something was required, and after he looked at my right eye for a couple minutes, he said there was nothing to remove, and said I was free to go, no charge. The eye exam and contact lense fitting went smoothly. After doing some research online, I found out that this place charges more on contact lenses compare to online and Costco, so I decided not to order from here. After I told Dr. Poon that I am not going to order from him, he tried to persuade me by giving a better deal (just a little better) and I gave in. And this whole time, he knew that I would apply my insurance on these lenses. Two weeks later, I went back to pick up my lenses. First of all, he ordered one less pack of lenses for me. But when I asked how much he actually charged my insurance on the two packs he ordered, he told me it was the original price. I was shocked since that was not what I was told originally over the phone. I asked why and his reply was, "well, the charges has already applied to your insurance and since you are not paying any money out of pocket, it doesn't make any difference." And he turn away and ignored me after saying that. I was really upset but I wasn't in a mood to argue so I left and decided never to return to this place. Although I didn't pay anything out of pocket, but he can't lie to customers. Maybe I didn't order enough and he didn't make enough money out of me. read more

I love this place: the selection, the folks, the service. I had the most thorough, respectful eye exam of my life here from Dr. Poon -- and I got glasses in first grade, so that's an awful lot of eye exams. I got kick-ass frames for a little over $200, and there was a pair I liked for even cheaper, and a wooden pair I covet but they're over $1,000 (read: whatever your budget, you can find a frame here). Candice greets me by name when I come in! When I broke my frames, they sent them off for repair (the plastic needed re-melting, it wasn't a clean break) -- and I only had to pay $45 when I was expecting to have to buy a whole new frame. When I was trying out new contacts and lost the trial pair, they gave me another pair. They put old lenses in a different set of frames I owned for free... and you get a little soda and fresh raspberries to refresh you while you wait for your exam. I can't recommend C2020 enough. read more
