I hate waiting for my turn at the doctor's office with all the other sick patients coughing and wheezing away beside you. I always feel like I'm bound to get sicker than actually get well when I come in for a check-up. I was really surprised with my experience at Healthway Medical in Greenbelt. First off, as a medical clinic inside a mall, I had low expectations. So was very happy that they provided such good service, even better than most big hospitals. You come in and it's easy to talk to the people there to find out what the steps are. If you are a new patient, you will be directed to a computer kiosk where you can enter your patient information - very modern! Then proceed to the counter where they will ask you want you what kind of doctor you need. There was less than 5 minutes of waiting time before I was escorted to the doctor's clinic by one of the staff. The doctor was very thorough with the check up and I was satisfied with the result of the treatment. Next time you need medical advice, I would highly recommend seeking it at Healthway Medical. The service there really made me smile.

Out of all the branches that I've tried, I can truly say that I like the Greenbelt branch the best. Not only does the place look new, the staff is very accommodating! I was very privileged to have experience the Healthway VIP treatment - there's a separate waiting room with TV (woohoo) and comfy coaches. Tip: make sure you bring a book or a game to play. There's always a lot of people here so you could be waiting and waiting. Also make sure to bring a bottle of water so that when the time comes and you need urine sample, you can easily give it. The whole place is well ventilated, it sometimes gets too chilly for me so I always make it a point to bring a jacket! The doctors here are very nice and super helpful - just ask away and they will try their best to answer you.

Though the speed of the service is questionable, the quality of your care in Paranaque Doctor's is pretty great. I got my ankle x-rayed, and this was when I had no medical insurance, and I was expecting a whopping P800 or P900 peso bill like I would have gotten should I have gone to Makati Med, but instead the x-ray only cost P330, and it was a good one too, not shoddily done at all. All the nurses are very nice and polite, and the doctors in the ER were very patient and soothing when explaining their diagnoses. The only problem that Paranaque Doctor's poses is its location. Dona Soledad gets crazy insane traffic during rush hour, and what was supposed to be a 30 minute commute turned into an excruciating 2 and a half hour one. I nearly cried. So if you live in the south and find yourself in need of medical attention - Paranaque Doctor's isn't the best of the best, but it certainly is a good hospital.

Doctors' clinics have limited waiting room seating capacity and the secretaries need a bit of customer service training. Example: secretaries at Rooms 527 and 528 seem busy on their phones or whatever they are doing that they were letting the phone ring for at least 5 mins before picking up. I was surprised to see that! 2 out of 3 doctors I visited were consistently late and let their patients wait.

Of course being in a world-class hospital doesn't come cheap. There are some instances when you just need a quick treatment and consultation for a tummy ache nearby. St. Therese Hospital is that hospital for my family. Located just 5 minutes away from our place, it has been very convenient for us especially for my parents when they aren't feeling so well. With less than 5 floors and ample parking space, the hospital isn't bad at all. The doctors and staff are accommodating and attentive. The facilities are good enough to cater to your needs. Whenever my mom feels bloated, I always rush her here and since she has insurance and is accredited there, it's always been a breeze. The hospital services and medicines are all reasonably priced and won't burn your wallet after your treatment.

The problem is that they trust their secretaries/nurses (same person) to communicate in texts and in person. The miscommunications are comedic but frustrating. Today, I was happy to get a walk-in consult that my other doctor required before surgery. This cardio clearance" lasted about 5 minutes and was a quick "Do you....? do you.....? do you....?" check 5 boxes and then rush me out the of the oddly small office. I lol actually thought that Dr. Greggy A. Panga was comping me for the consult (as some doctors do at St. Lukes for such short "consults"), so I was preparing to give the nurse/secretary a sizable tip, but then she said, "5,000 pesos." Suddenly her English is sharp lol I had asked her TWICE before I went in about the cost but she somehow couldn't understand and then suddenly waved me into the doctor's tiny office with hundreds of "Stich" (of cartoon "Lilo and Stich") toys covering the one basic bookshelf that took up the whole wall. After getting my free coffee and snack downstairs, I decided to ask the desk staff about the cost. They were kind but couldn't understand me, nor I them (!), as it took about 25 minutes to finally grasp her meaning after I asked her to write the costs on paper. Anyway, the nurse had told the desk staff that they had discounted it for me from 100$ to 75$. Well, they certainly made no mention of that to me in the office nor on my billing sheet. So it was apparently even more ridiculous of a price. Again, there were no prices listed anywhere (or none shown to me despite my asking several times). St. Luke's allows its doctors to charge ANY AMOUNT THEY CHOOSE! So then you're shocked after you've had one reasonable procedure/cost with one doctor only to get charged 4 times more with another doctor. Buyer beware. Check the cost first. Also, this doctor today was rather strange as he avoided looking me in the eye and then rushed through the info and rushed me out despite having no other patients waiting and it was 3:30pm (so I don't think he was late for some golf tee-time). Maybe he was planning on price-gouging me and felt guilty. Hmmm....anyway, sigh, not a good feeling, feeling ripped-off, especially at the premier medical establishment in the Philippines.
