You can purchase sodas ($2) or alcoholic beverages. We indulged in the light & tasty Cabbage Island Aide ($10), with Pinnacle blueberry vodka, pink lemonade & a splash of club soda garnished with Maine blueberries. Only cash is accepted for drinks and gift shop purchases. After finding a picnic table, either indoors or out, your server will take your drink order & bring your fish chowder. Shortly afterwards, the dinner bell will ring & you head down to the pit where the food is cooked to pick up your meal. Our delightful young server, Griffin, graciously offered to pick up our trays & bring them to our table. He remained attentive & solicitous the entire time we were there. We couldn't have asked for better service. There is a gratuity jar on each table. Tip generously! These kids do a fabulous job! We were also pleased that the two Moore brothers who have owned this family business for 38 years stopped by every table individually to ensure that all were having a good time. It was a hot day in July for Maine when we took this trip. We still enjoyed the boat tide over but chose to sit downstairs out of the sun. Wasn't overcrowded and everyone got a seat. Captain was one of the nieces and she did a great job narrating and driving us over to the island. Picked up our tickets before getting on the boat, cash or check only. There was an ATM nearby if you needed it. After arriving to the island you could either sit outside at the picnic tables near the cooking or on the porch or inside the main dining. Since it was hot most people chose outside or on the porch. We sat on the porch out of the sun. They came and took your drink orders and could get tea, water for free or could order other drinks for additional. We got a beer and teas. We were told we would hear a horn when it was time for dinner and were free to wander. We did look around and the horn sounded not too much later. We then got in line to pick up our tray of food. And a lot of food it was. 2 lobsters, clams, corn potatoes and an egg. I wish they would have given us a lesson in how to eat the clams and lobster but we made due. We had such a great time on the Cabbage Island Clambake Cruise. We've done several day cruises in Maine over the years, and this was easily our favorite. It was also probably the best value we've found for a Maine excursion. The trip was about 3 1/2 hours from leaving Boothbay Harbor until we returned, and it felt like just the right amount of time. The scenery was beautiful, the island was fun to explore, and the clambake was excellent. What really stood out, though, was the people. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and seemed to genuinely enjoy being there. We had the chance to talk with two members of the family that owns the business, and hearing about the history of the island and how long they've been doing this made the experience feel even more special. You can tell they really care about what they're doing. One thing that stuck with me was hearing several different people mention that they come back every year. By the end of the trip, I understood why. If we're back in the Boothbay Harbor area, this will definitely be on our list to do again. read more

This truly is an amazing adventure, don't hesitate. BOOK THE EXCURSION! ** Cash or check only! I've been vacationing in Northern Maine for 37 years, and we just recently started venturing out to Southern Maine. I came across Cabbage Island Clam Bake via social media late last year. I finally made a point to visit this year. Booking online was very easy. I booked our trip back in December. No payment needed. You pay upon arrival on the day of your trip. Book in advance if possible. They will fill up fast. They cater to special events as well, so reachout if you need to book something. There are a few things to choose from for meals, even for children, incase lobster is not your thing, or maybe you simply are lobstered out and want to have an experience. Communication was fantastic as the date grew closer. We received email confirmation back in December, but June into July it ramped up with maybe an email here or a text to confirm 1-3 times. We did change one of our meals from the chicken to lobster with a simple phone call a few weeks in advance. They were very accommodating and pleasant. We received email confirmation when that was complete. Their website is filled with lots of information. I also watched a few videos via social media to get a feel for what to expect. The day came for our CICB! We went on 7/5/25, afternoon excursion. We arrived a little before 11:30am, checked in and paid an estimated $97 per person. Price will vary. The website has that broken down for you. We waited behind the ticket booth in the shade. When boarding came we were one of the last to board. Once onboard the Benie Alice we were greeted by many of the crew. You could opt to pay for some drinks on board. Bring a sweater, even if it's hot outside Maine summers can be on the cooler side. The bottom level was cold for many as windows were open, and the water air was filling in. The upper deck was warmer, but the seating is limited to about 99 passengers. The front of the boat outside definitely is cold due to the air coming at you when it is moving. The back of the boat is the warmest and most comfortable I found for myself. When we arrived we found seating at an outdoor picnic table in the Hideaway section. It was so nice and secluded! Good to restore any sensory overload we all had. There are many picnic tables around, an indoor seating area, restrooms, bar, kitchen, and small gift shop. Once we were seated our waiter Will came and introduced himself. He also took our drink order. Tea(hot or iced), coffee, and water are apart of your meal. There are sodas and mixed drinks for sale paid via cash. Will brought out the fish chowder. It was FANTASTIC! So good. I added a little salt and pepper, others kept it the way it came. I ventured to check out the lobster being cooked along with all the other fixings. It honestly was so fascinating watching all the hard work that was going into preparing the food. They clearly have this all down to a science and work like a well oiled machine. So many of staff/family took time to chat with guests. Everyone was so nice! A bell went off and we headed to get our food. The line moved pretty quick. On a tray we had 2 lobsters, clams, a potato, melted butter, an onion corn on the cob and an egg. Everyone was superb! We finished with coffee and their famous blueberry cake. The cake was moist, houses many blueberries and had a small crunch on the top. It was a decent size piece as well! This entire experience was wonderful! It's in my list to return if I'm in the area! What an amazing experience! Highly highly recommend and would come back again! This is a family run business operating for 37 years. This is not just a meal, it's an excursion with a boat tour. The clam bake is on a private island owned by the family. Family members walk around and greet you on the island. Betty is one of the sisters. She is 73. Her son cooks lobsters. A nephew was collecting tickets. Some are servers. The pride and love shows. I walked over to see the area where the lobsters and clams were steaming and someone was explaining the process to one of the customers. We saw this on a Mark wiens video a while back and wanted to come. Tried to make a reservation and it was already sold out for the 2022 year. So as soon as reservations opened for 2023 we snagged a spot. It's a great experience, and incredible value. At around $20 more than what you'd pay for a lobster roll at some places, you get a boat ride (with tour), cool island experience, and lots of delicious food. Lobster in particular was delicious. Meal come with ice tea or coffee. Soda and alcohol are offered to purchase (including on the boat) Staff is super friendly. Family run atmosphere. The venue has a huge outdoor seating area with tables spaced apart. There's also ample indoor seating too if you prefer (or if weather is bad). They recommend coming an hour early which probably isn't necessary. It does take a little time to find parking. Note the local parking lot they recommend only charges until 4pm. read more

Oh wow. Mark wein did not overhype this place. I was sad that they were sold out of tickets last summer and I made it my mission to hunt for these tickets. Reservations online open up in the fall, keep hitting the refresh button till you can rsvp. That's when you know you had made it, I rsvp for their second day of the season - Father's Day. It felt like hitting the lotto to be able to take my family in celebrating my hard working immigrant father who worked all his life - still working to support us. This was a trip to remember for life. It's simple, you rsvp get there early to pay for your tickets, hop on a boat, and then get spoiled. Go on Sunday's for free street parking. 45 minutes to get to their private island where they give you a nice tour around the Maine coast. Get in line early if you want a good seat on the boat. I don't know how many people fit on the boat, but it was a lot. We got lucky... It was a foggy day, but started to clear up. Could not see much on the ride over. But it was still a nice boat ride. They bring you chowder, and then you stand in line to get your food. The lobsters were small, but they gave you two. The corn was a bit overcooked. Wasn't so wild over by the clams. And you got a hard boiled egg and it cooked onion. Quite interesting. The island itself was quite beautiful. A year ago we were interested in doing this, but they fill up quickly and we couldn't find a date for us and a couple friends we were planning to go with. This year my wife and I decided to go just the two of us for our 50th anniversary, so I booked it two months ahead in late April and was able to reserve our spots for late June. They do not accept credit cards, just checks and cash, so they checked with me three times to confirm we were still going. We stayed at a hotel right where the clambake leaves for the island, so I went to the box office to see if In could pay the day before. No, you have to pay within an hour or so of your departure time. No problem. They do a mini-tour on your way to Cabbage Island, which is an interesting presentation by the engaging ship captain. They sell drinks on the boat, but you have to finish them on the boat (but if you need alcohol to have fun, don't despair; they also sell it on Cabbage Island). There is seating inside and out, and they have young servers who will offer to bring you tea or coffee, and can be very helpful in many other ways. Be sure to tip them before you leave! They bring seafood chowder and oyster crackers first. It is okay, a mere intro to the meal to come. Then in a while, you hike down a path and stand in line to pick up your tray where they cooked it. The menu will tell you it includes two soft shell lobsters, a serving of steamed clams, a potato, onion, an ear of corn on the cob, and an egg. I heard it said that they cook the layers of eggs on top, because when the eggs are cooked, they know the food under them are also. Don't ask me how! The onion; well, someone in the family loves onions so they thought it makes a nice twist to the meal. The corn was wonderfully sweet, and everything tasty and cooked well. I am not a big cake eater, but my wife thought the blueberry cake was great. My biggest concern was accessibility, as my wife uses a Walker or a cane to get around, and has little walking stamina. There were challenges. She had to switch to her cane or use handrails a few times while I pushed or carried her Walker, and I went down the uneven trail and got both of our trays, as she would have had to stop a few times if she went. Everybody there, staff and other customers, were thoughtful and gave us space if we needed it briefly. So it made for a special anniversary trip for us. You get in line at noon to then go on an hour-long tour of the islands surrounding Boothbay Harbor on the Bennie Alice, on the way to Cabbage Island. When you arrive, there is a large seating area, where you can sit inside, on the wrap-around porch, or on the picnic tables around the grounds. You are served drinks and fish chowder, and then wait for another bell to go down to the line for your meal. They have a lobster meal, which consists of clams, 2 lobsters, corn on the cob, baked potato, onion, and a hardboiled egg. The chicken meal is the same, but replace the two lobsters with a half chicken. We were served by Connor who was super nice and helpful. When we went down to the line, everyone was so friendly. The owners walked around and introduced themselves to everyone. My friend got the lobster meal while I tried the chicken (and I tried 2 claws). I'm not the biggest clam fan, but it was still a really cute experience, especially with great company. The people who work on the island are all some of the kindest people I've ever met, and made it a great experience. Well so much to talk about on this adventure. We boarded the Benny Alice at Pier 6 in Boothbay Harbor. Tickets are $85 a person and include your food and soft drinks. We were told to arrive an hour before we boarded. So we got there and stood in line. It took half an hour for everyone to board so we left at 12:30. We went out on the water and our captain gave us in the narratives tour of multiple islands in Boothbay Harbor. He talked about the house where the wicked witch of the last West lived for years. And many of the local famous buildings. After about an hour we got to cabbage Island. There are multiple picnic tables some secluded some less so. You sit down and they take your drink order. Then they bring you your chowder. When the second bell tolls you walk down the hill withyourtayour ticket and go to the clambake area where they load you up with clams 2 lobsters, corn on the cob, a baked onion, a baked potato and a large piece of blueberry cake. The lobsters are soft shell and were perfectly cooked. It is all layered in a steaming pit. The corn it's OK not bad. Baked potato very good, the onion was very good. The egg was interesting, but not a necessary part of the meal for someone from the Midwest. It is used as an indicator of when all the rest of the food is done. It was definitely worth the price. The view was beautiful. The owner came around to make sure everything was OK. He is from Ohio- go buckeyes (not!) it has been running 7 days a week. Reserve in advance! It books up. The servers are local young people. He employees 36 of them, 18 are generally at anyone service. They were very helpful and very pleasant. There are multiple games. If you get your meal first you have more time to explore the island after you eat. Main event: steamed 2, 1 lb lobsters, a dozen steamers, hard boiled egg, onion, corn and whole potato, huge portion, wasn't anything incredibly flavorful since it's simply steamed but you can taste the down to earth sweetness and freshness Comes with butter And water to rinse steamers of sand Ask for lemon or hot sauce if desired I didn't know how to clean the clams and they came to help me learn. An overall unique experience. We had to book this way in advance about 1-2 months and they are sold out quickly. The season is June to early September. The ticket price is $79 for adults which comes with the New England clambake meal and tour and boat ride to cabbage island. Ticket for children was $33 which includes the boat ride and hotdog meal. You get two Maine lobsters (~1-1.5 lb), clams, corn, hard oil egg, fish chowder, potatoes, onion and blueberry cake. For kids, you get a bag of chips, two hot dogs, fish chowder and blueberry cake. The boat ride was entertaining and it is about 1 hour going into the island for the tour but takes about 20 minutes to get back. The service was warm and welcoming as if you were invited to a family outing at someone's private island. But the food unfortunately was not what I expected. Lobster was very watery and also over cooked. Clams were full of sand even with the rinse they provided. Fish chowder was decent. Blueberry cake was ok. Great time! It's about an hour ferry ride on the Bennie Alice to the island. Limited outdoor space but plenty of indoor seating on the boat. Lobsters were delicious and fresh. Steamers were on the smaller side and wish the fish chowder was thicker. Blueberry cake was yummy. If you sit outdoors, take caution with the bees. I had just walked back to my table after getting my tray of food and suddenly I felt a sharp pain... I got stung on my upper arm. I visited this clambake yesterday on a Sunday. The whole experience was fabulous, from the boat ride to the island to the picnic of delectable foods out in the fresh air. The day events were well organized and with the right amount of people at each seating. The staff were friendly and eager to please everyone's different culture food preferences if not then definitely in the future. I did notice that the entry to the island was not handicapped accessible and not easy accessible for anyone having difficulty walking. My husband and I attended the last evening clambake of the season. We had a great time and only have two complaints. We enjoyed the actual clambake meal immensely, but the fish chowder was unfortunately oily and thin. The blueberry cake for dessert was excellent - make sure you save some room for it! Our only qualm was the boat ride. The captain was great and told us many things about the habor/ islands/ lighthouses. The Bennie Alice is meant to hold almost double the number of people that were on the boat when we took it. The number of people on board was just about half the capacity due to COVID. Despite the reduction in people on board, I really still felt pretty uncomfortable on the boat because of the close quarters. There were also a few rowdy guests (on the return trip only). The crew was really great about making sure mask rules were followed which was greatly appreciated. We were initially hesitant due to the price, but it really is worth every penny. read more

This was a very fun experience. We arrived in Boothebay a little early and had time to explore the cute shops in the area. Then we boarded the Bennie Alice and enjoyed a wonderful tour of the harbor. I especially enjoyed seeing a few lighthouses. Once we made it to to Cabbage Island, it was nice to see both indoor and outdoor seating options. The weather was a little chilly so my group grabbed a table inside. We didn't have to wait too long before we were served a delicious fish stew. Then it was time to go get our main meals - lobster, clams, baked potatoes, corn on the cob, onion, and hard boiled egg. There was also a chicken option if you are not into seafood. The meal was a little messy but delicious. We finished it off with blueberry cake. Afterwards we had some time to explore the island or play yard games like cornhole or badminton, before we boarded the boat and headed back. I highly recommend this tour! read more

If you're in the Boothbay Harbor, ME area in the Summer months, do not miss the Cabbage Island Clambake! Included in the experience is a boat ride to Cabbage Island, cup of chowder, heaping lunch plate (2 lobsters, clams, fresh corn in the cob, potato, hard boiled egg, onion), and blueberry cake for dessert. We've never tried soft shell lobsters before and it was definitely the BEST lobster we've ever had! It's a relaxing boat trip to the island where you watch the cooking finish, eat to your heart's delight and then have some additional time to explore the island before heading back to Boothbay Harbor. Would definitely make the trip again (Texas to Maine) to relive this experience! read more
