Terrible experience - This place must hate the miltiary! I am a Texas resident on PCS orders in Kentucky. Per state law I need a valid military ID and a copy of my orders. I brought both and was denied a legal sale. The reason is because I am stationed in Lexington and not Fort Campbell or Fort Knox. They disregarded my lawful right as a military member to purchase a weapon because of an admininstrative issue they coudn't figure out. No issue at other places. I was finally up over this way and decided to stop in. It really does look like a lodge you'd see in the mountains . Overall it has a very rustic feel to it . There was a display for fall and already some Christmas decor out . There were plenty of employees out on the floor doing various tasks (the men looked like forest rangers ). I liked being able to walk through the store without someone asking if they could help me every five minutes . The biggest thing that caught my attention was the huge fish aquarium. They had some HUGE fish in there! The second thing that caught my eye was the 7.50 piece of fudge . They had all kinds and as good as it looked it was a no sale for me . The women's department felt smaller to me then the men's department did . I did see a couple of rain jackets that I'd think about buying . As for running shoes for women the selection again was small and not my cup of tea . They do carry "hey dude" shoes . read more

Going into Cabela's last weekend was a new experience for me. Although I've seen the store scattered near several highways and been to other sports/camping stores before, I'd never been to a Cabela's. When my husband and I learned they were building one in Lexington, we were anxious for the opening to check it out. A few days after the Grand Opening, we were in the area and eager to check it out. WOW. It's HUGE. And filled with SO MUCH. I don't even camp and I was in camp heaven. They have: - Camping gear. - BBQ gear. - Food/meat processing equipment. - Fishing gear. - Canoes & kayaks. - Women, men, and children's outdoor clothing. - Outdoor shoes/boots/sandals. - Assorted guns and rifles for hunting and protection. - Tons of ammo and gun accessories. - Archery equipment... AND an archery range of some sort! - A large stuffed [real] animal display and a little aquarium with live fish. - And I'm sure there's more that I'm missing.... There's also a little cafe to get snacks and drinks while you shop. Neat! This store kind of made me wish I was some kind of outdoor enthusiast. I DO enjoy being outside and I love to explore new forest preserves and nature spots, but I'm not an avid hiker or climber or camper or anything like that. Here..... I think this is the best hunting and fishing store in Lexington Kentucky just past the Hamburg shopping area if coming from town. We enjoy walking around and seeing all the great camping and outdoor cooking supplies. We looked at men's shoes but they seem not to carry sizes below a men's size 8. My guys have men's size 7 or 7 1/2 that was our only complaint! The brands they carry are good quality. The store has a indoor Santa for the Christmas season if you are interested in this with a children's activity center set up by him. We could spend hours in this store! read more

BUYER BEWARE - I purchased a brand new Kimber from Cabela and paid full price. The firearm would not fire straight out of the box! Now I am shipping it to Kimber for a fix. Cabela said they could not exchange due to it being a firearm. They later admitted that is a Cabela policy. They could exchange but CHOOSE not to. So in essence, we paid full price for a gun that will have to be repaired and there is no recourse. I will NEVER purchase another firearm from Cabela. This place is huge!! It's been open for almost a year and I would never think that there would be so many hunters and outdoorsmen in the area, to keep so many similar store in business in Lexington. There's the two Dicks locations, Sportsman's Warehouse and now this massive Cabela's, just to name a few. To me, all of the mentioned are very similar. They sell coats, hats, etc.... brands like Northface. If you don't have an outdoorsmen or hunter in your life, you may never know that there is actually more to this place than just camo gear. They have a line of Yeti products.So if you're in the market for an overpriced cooler, this is where to find a large selection. In the back, there a sales selection. It's tucked into an area all by itself. The staff are very friendly and helpful when you can't find what you're looking for. The store is laid out really well as far as departments (camping, hunting, guns, knives etc.) with signage hanging so you know what part of the store you're looking for. Oh and they have fresh candied pecans and cashews made right in the store as well as a place to grab fresh fudge over near the checkout counters. on tuesday may 9 2023 i tried to contact the lexington ky store to see if an item was in stock. the first time calling the automaated system started and i selected o for the operator, the phone rang for 4 1/2 minutes before i hung up and no one answered. the second call after the o for operator the phone rang for 6 minutes with no one answering. the third call after the o for operator the phone rang for approximately 2 minutes and was answered. i ask if they had a portable fuel tank in stock and provided the sku #, the young personon told me that they don't have fuel tanks in stock. i proceedeed to tell him i saw them the previous weekend and he said he would connect me with marine accessories. the gentleman that answered ask for the sku # and confirmed that they did have the item in stock. i drove 45 minutes collected my items paid and left. i lost approximatley 20 minutes of my life that i will never get back. this is just another reason to shop online instead of going to a store. needless to say, i will be shopping amazon from this point forward. read more

Went shopping to get ready for Spring Turkey season coming up. We were quickly able to find all the essentials we needed. We got new calls and some new camps to fit my son. The best part for my son though was seeing their display of animals on the back wall of the store. The do an excellent job of putting quality animals that are hit able for youth to see. I have been a 20+ year customer of Cabela's and have spent a small fortune in their stores and online. Up until about 2-3 years ago I never had a bad experience. While their pricing was always a little in the high side, their service, expertise, selection, and guarantees were very good. This experience today was a killer. On the way to the lake for the weekend we stopped in to take advantage of Summer Clearance on tubing gear. None of the tubes were in the right shelf location so no way to tell the price. Help was circled around a computer two sections away looking at maps. Had to lug one of the heavy boxes over to them to get a price check. Repeated the process 2 more times - not once did any of the 5 of them offer to come over with the scanner to help. Once we found the one we wanted we specifically asked if it was part of the sale - one of those standing said it would be taken down 33% at the register. Took it and other tubing gear we were assured would be discounted at register up front to ring out. Got rung up with no discount. Asked about the 33% off - was told system did not ring it up with that ( held off my wise guy nature that was tempted to say NS Sherlock that is why I am asking). I explained their ad featured that, and guy in back said it would be given at check out. The young man at the register turned to a nearby woman and she came over. She was hanging by door with 2-3 others - lots of help just standing around. I repeated the story and was told in a pretty dismissive tone that "ads you get in the mail sometimes don't start until later". I explained the sale was featured in the ads that were at the front door and suggested they pull one out to look at it. She said they "did not keep them at register". My now frustrated wife said she would go get one (the lady that appeared to be in charge at registers nor any other the others standing there offered to go get one - to his credit the young cashier locked his drawer and said he would go- by then my wife was out of sight and I asked him to stay put. I then apologized to the line now forming behind me. Lady in charge and others standing there did not volunteer to open another register (only the one I was in was open) to check out others waiting nor even acknowledge those waiting. In less than a minute my wife appeared with the ad. The response from the lady was "I have to check with that Department". After getting someone and describing the packaging she was given the same price we were when we asked the same ______#! hanging around the computer looking at maps we did. I asked her how they would now know it was not eligible for the sale after having told me while I was holding it that it was. The response was "it must not be one of the selected ones". I asked her to look at the ad again - it was the exact picture in the ad that was on the front of the package - and asked why would the ad show the exact tube and picture if it was not one of the selected ones? Answer was a dismissive "I don't know what to tell you!" Not an apology, not a let me check with someone to see what we can do. First, instead of being excited to see their products, I was totally caught off-guard by their immediate credit card sales pitch that you could not get around. Not cool guys! I would love to support you all, but this is not the way to win over your customers. Second, I had good customer service with many people checking in with me to see if I needed help, but was a much different story when I went to check out. The cashier was a total jerk when I denied his warranty plan, as well as when I rejected giving my phone number for the sale! The cashier practically threw my receipt at me, lol! When you're in love with a biologist, you spend a lot of time outdoors. I've discovered that I love it, but there's a lot of gear I still need. I've been bumming gear off others, but it's time for me to have things of my own. Today, the goal was to find a warm down jacket. The peacoat that I thought was a sufficient winter coat really isn't -- not when you're spending significant time outside. I strolled through the women's department, trying on jackets from Northface & Columbia. They were warm & comfortable, but at around $200, more than I wanted to spend. Then I spotted a beautiful pink down jacket. It was also warm & comfortable, but actually looked better on me than the others. I was a little afraid to check out the price tag, expecting it to be well over $100, but it was $99. And on sale for just over $60. What?! I inspected more closely & discovered that it was Cabela's brand. Of course that's the jacket I went with. When the clerk at the checkout told me about the lifetime warranty against normal wear & tear, I couldn't believe it. I'm excited to own a jacket that will actually keep me warm this winter, and I love that it didn't cost as much as I feared. read more

I recently took a trip to Cabela's to pick up an online order that I had placed before the holidays. It came in in a timely manner, so I went to this location to pick it up. When I arrived, I didn't know that online pick up was in the back of the store, so had to wait almost 20 minutes in the customer service line to then be sent to the back of the store. The line was almost 10 deep behind me, and they only had two people at the customer service desk - I felt they should've called to have someone come up and help at the very least! The rest of the store was practically empty and I passed a number of employees standing around chatting with each other. The pick up process for my online order was great - quick and easy! I also spent some time looking at clothes as they had some nice Columbia gear on sale. When I went to check out, the cashier was friendly and walked me through everything. Overall, the store is enormous, but has a great selection of everything you could possibly need to do outdoor activities. I just couldn't give it higher than a three-star review due to poor customer service - especially since it was 1:30 in the afternoon on a Tuesday! read more

Very cool place with a lot of options from clothing to coolers. Of course all the guns, fishing, and hunting supplies you can shake a stick at. The staff is extremely nice and the quality of individuals seems to be too notch. They have an aquarium with local species of fish and lots of wildlife displays all over the store. If your hungry they have a cafe with drinks, chips, sandwiches and fudge that is made daily. They have a selection of kayaks and johnboats as well to purchase. If you need it I'm sure you can probably get it here and if not I'm sure you can order it. Check it out it's a nice addition for Lexington and Hamburg. read more

I would recommend Cabelas to anyone that asked me. I ordered a product online which when I received it was missing a battery I called customer service and they was really helpful with trying to get me a new product also told me that I could take it to a local store and exchange it. So I called the Lexington Ky store and a lady named Dawn answered that works in the hunting. She looked to see if they had what I was looking for which they did not have at the time but she took my number and called me a few days later when that product was back in the store. Every time I come in they bug you over a Cabela's card even if you already have one. Other than that it's always a decent experience. There Firearm Prices are outrageous compared to other Firearms Retailers such as buds,sportsman's, Etc.. the gun library is the only thing they really have going for them and you can talk them down in price sometimes. read more

They must spray a scent that hits you as you walk in (think a woodsy version of Abercrombie and Fitch). The mounted game animals are amazing as are the occasional wolf howls they play. It is a pretty white space and service wavers at times based on that. They could make this a more welcoming place by hiring more visibly diverse staff! read more

I am really stunned at the poor customer service. I purchased a bow that was backordered with a date listed. That date came and went and I received no notice of delay nor of shipment. The website had no update. When I called I was told that the listed date for backordered items was when they were going to get any, not the number needed to fulfill your order. They then said "Oh my, you're a ways down the list." They are unable to give me a shipping date. They are unable to tell me how many shipments they will need to receive in order to fulfill my order. I am missing a big chunk of the season because of their deceptive sales. I could have purchased elsewhere easily. They know they can't fulfill your order by the listed backorder date and they take your money regardless. This was my last purchase from them. read more

The place is amazing to look at. Really good place to go for ammunition. However, for a chain store, the prices are insanely high in my opinion, especially for clothing and firearms. Also, while customer service is good sometimes, other times it's completely non-existent. It's definitely a good place to check out or splurge on something, but it is pricey. As for the staff, I've never had a negative experience with them, though there have been plenty of times I wasn't helped at all. I really love the concept of this place. I love the outdoor go camping be outside and just enjoy nature kind of feel. I love that they always place themselves right next to the freeway so it's easy to get to and just easy to go. They have some the friendliest staff I've ever dealt with very knowledgeable. They always have great deals on products that I'm looking for for outdoor activities. During the weekend was their grand opening and I will tell you that place was popping with people. I've never seen a place with that many people before on a grand opening and I will tell you it was very exciting. It was really cool just to experience it and check out everything the offer and I even bought a few little items just to have. I will never spend any money here. Waited for more than 15 minutes in line, approximately 20 people and 2 cashiers, 1 moving pretty fast , the other waiting on a price check. When a third finally came, he wasn't open for a minute before he needed a price check. While walking thru the store, every other aisle someone asked to help me. So I went to the customer service counter to look for help. The girl wasn't in a hurry to acknowledge me. When she did ask if she could help me, I said "yes could you please re-stock these for me because your cashiers are too slow." She just stood there with her mouth open. Bought a used shotgun, I feel like I got played a little bit. The used gun was tagged at 979. And the salesman looked up on the franchi site with a msrp of 1250, I bought it. When I got home and started researching and reading reviews on the gun I see where cabelas had the new guns listed for 999. I hate sales. *UPDATE when i took the gun apart to clean it for the first time I noticed dimples all over the magazine tube. I contacted beretta in Maryland and they said absolutely not supposed to be that way. I returned the gun to our Virginia location immediately and received a full refund.
