I booked this excursion after a recommendation from an Uber driver-So glad I listened! My Airbnb was in Carolina so Fajardo is a 40 minute drive which is far compared to other local options. However it's worth the trip and allows you a chance to experience more of the island than if you stay local. Once you get to the pier, there is street parking that was very convenient. There is also a boat house with stalls and showers that make it convenient to change into and out of your swim gear. At first we thought that we wouldn't be able to go to both of the locations included in the tour but the weather cleared up and we were good to go. The staff was so great! Very friendly, fun, and knowledgeable. The lunch was sub buffet style-different meats, cheeses, and toppings with a few cold salad options. They also offer rum punch, water, and sodas once lunch begins. So if your the type to get a bit thirsty, bring a water bottle with you too. Definitely ensure you bring a hat, sunglasses, and tons of sunblock! You are out for hours in the sun. The excursion itself is amazing! This was for sure a highlight of our trip. It was a beautiful day. The boat ride alone was worth the price of admission We went to the Icacao Island. Beautiful beach. Lunch was great. Rum was plentiful. After spending a couple of hours there, we moved out to a reef for real snorkeling, sunshine, music and more rum. Captain Tyrone, First Mate Benji and Hostess Frances were so much fun. Accommodating and informative. Our catamaran held 20 people. I recommend you make sure you are on one of the smaller catamarans as some of them had 45 or 50 people on board and it seemed crowded and certainly a lot less intimate. We got to know people from Puerto Rico, Canada, New Jersey, and Phoenix during our time on the boat. As it was Christmas Eve, we sailed back to the marina singing and dancing to Christmas music. Went out on this catamaran last week and was lots of fun! The captain and the guys were soo nice and took care of you really well the places we went- Icacos and some other island- were the most beautiful water lots of fish to see... I really wanted to give 5 stars, however the food was terrible, the chicken and tuna salad had NO flavor what so ever and the "pasta" salad was the worse I've ever had. NO FLAVOR! That is my ONLY complaint, I went out with Salty Dog catamaran last year and their deli lunch was on point. So please guys put some love and flavor into the lunch and I'm sure that it will be a 5 star trip next time! read more

It was my first time on a catamaran, and we did the snorkeling by Culebra. It was a lot of fun. The boat ride was about an hour each way, and the boat went pretty fast. I was sitting towards the back of the boat, and whenever the front of the boat made a splash, I would eat it and got pretty drenched. We had 2 stops where we got into snorkeling gear and jumped off of the boat. I got to see a lot of coral reefs, cool looking fishes, and even a turtle! Too bad the water was a little bit cloudy. The boat itself looked to be pretty new. The Captain was very nice and courteous. He pointed out where to snorkel to see the coral reefs and which areas to avoid. He even brought out a boogie board to give people who weren't good swimmers something to hold onto, as he swam them around the bay so they could have the snorkeling experience. Lunch was provided - some bread, ham, tuna, cheese, cold pasta salad, some cantaloupes and oranges, and potato chips. Overall, I had a lot of fun and had a great time. read more

We booked this tour combined with the biolumiscent bay tour together through GSI. While my negative experience with that company darkened the experience slightly, nothing could have been more fun that this excursion. I think that the sign in process could have been better explained, we were told that our card was run upon booking, but it turns out only the deposit had been, and we owed a significant amount of money that we didn't expect. Okay, we paid and sat down in the designated spot. They offered water or soft drinks while waiting for all parties to show up, a total of 45 people. They sized us with flippers and snorkeling masks before telling us the rules. They really rushed through where to sit, how to flush the "toilet" etc, but once we were on we figured it out pretty well. I did think that the boat was pretty overcrowded, but everyone was friendly enough. We were cruising at about 10 mph so it never got too fast, but we were joined by a happy dolphin jumping along with us. It was about an hour out to the Icacaos Island, an uninhabited beautiful place with an immature reef. They offered lessons to newbies, and provided tubes to strap around your waist if you were uncomfortable. Once we were anchored they pulled out a lunch buffet that included chicken salad, tuna salad, turkey, ham, pasta salad, cheese, pickles and cookies. They also had complimentary rum punch, pina colada drinks, and pop. It was all self guided so Michael and I spent about an hour in the reef, half hour exploring the amazing island and half hour eating/drinking. I was surprised how many people just hung out on the boat. This reef was only about 8 feet deep. After a couple hours we moved to the Tortuga Reef, which was situated at 25-30 feet deep with a much more mature reef. Here we saw a nurse shark, a puffer fish, several parrotfish, a sea turtle and many cool marine plants. Drinks were bottomless, and so was the sun. Pro-tip I was I would have realized... your back and butt and backs of legs are constantly served up to the southern sun for hours, LATHER ON THE SUNSCREEN! I covered my front well, but was quite uncomfortable on the plane ride back the next morning. I really think that this was an amazing experience. So tranquil, but so much fun. I would absolutely recommend this company and this tour to anyone looking to get out to the ocean and see some fishies :) read more

The whole family had a great time. the Staff called us to make sure we were coming since we were running late. The day before we received text message communicatio of where to go, when to arrive and a reminder to complete our waiver. The one thing we wished was that the boat was closer to shore when we got off at the beach. Since we had to swim to shore we could not bring things we wanted such as towels, drinks and snacks. First of all, this was one of the highlights of our trip to PR. The crystal clear water of Icacao was breathtaking. The highlights: The crew was really nice- I don't remember his name, but one of the guys got in with us when we were snorkeling and made sure everyone was doing well. When we were worried about some jellyfish we saw he explained that they were not the poisonous type and picked one up to show us. The food and drinks were pretty good. The challenges: The catamaran only had a small seating area covered. The rest of us were out in the Caribbean sun for 6 hours straight with no shade. Even with sunscreen, going in and out of the water left me and others severely sunburned. If they had asked those in the shade to move for the second half or something maybe it could have worked, but it was a lot of sun with no reprieve. They also began on island time, so we showed up at 8:15 as we were instructed and they weren't ready for us until after 9. My husband, my mom, my three year-old daughter and I were all *so* excited about the sailing/snorkeling excursion we planned with Traveler Catamaran. This was an unforgettable experience for all of us. Let me start by saying: take Dramamine. At least one of our fellow passengers became quite ill on the trip out to Icacos and was unable to enjoy the day at all. Don't let this be you! Just bring the Dramamine and you'll be fine. :) We swam off the island for awhile before getting back on the boat to eat lunch, which was quite delicious! We also consumed our fair share of pina coladas -- yum! We then traveled over to the snorkeling area. The water was pretty cloudy/murky, so visibility was limited. But it was my first time snorkeling, and I didn't care about the minimal visibility -- I still got to see plenty of fish and the beautiful coral reef! I do recommend bringing your own dry snorkel; totally worth it to not have to worry about water getting in your snorkel. While my mom and I were snorkeling, my daughter was quite upset she couldn't get in the water with us. But crew member Frances saved the day: she filled a large plastic tub with water so my daughter could have her own "ocean." She had the best time splashing in that tub and clambering in and out of it! Captain Robert and crew were incredibly nice and accommodating. They took great care of us and kept us very informed of what we would be doing and when -- I really can't say enough good things about them. Just before leaving the snorkeling area, Frances spotted an injured baby leatherback sea turtle and rescued it. Before calling it in to the animal rescue group, Frances let my daughter name the turtle, which she enjoyed immensely. :-) Seriously, this crew was unbeatable. I did a lot of research on snorkeling/boat tours in PR before choosing this one and I'm so happy I did. This excursion lives up to all the great reviews, and for less than $100 per person for a full day including lunch, rum drinks, and transportation, its a steal. We were picked up in old San Juan with no problems and after a few other pickups, its about a 45 minutes ride to Farjado. Upon arrival, we we're fitted with snorkeling gear before setting sail on the Traveler catamaran. First, we journeyed to a small island called Icacos. On the boat, you can sit out front to enjoy the ride and get a tan. While at Icacos, you can practice snorkeling at a small reef near shore, relax on the beach, try out paddle-boarding, and eat a delicious lunch on the boat. After about two hours at Icacos, we moved to a large and very active coral reef about a half mile off shore to snorkel. The amount and the variety of fish is unbelievable. There are so many in a variety or beautiful colors and patterns and they're not afraid to get close to you. Snorkeling here was exciting yet relaxing. When you've had enough snorkeling or want to take a break, you can climb back aboard for some rum drinks and fresh fruit and to enjoy the sun some more. After 2 hours or so at the reef, we headed back to the dock in Farjardo. Overall, this tour is definitely a great way to spend a day of your vacation. read more

This was one of my husband's and my favorite things we did during our week in Puerto Rico. My husband and I went out on a Wednesday with Traveler's Catamaran to go snorkeling. The boat fits about 50 people but as it was in the middle of the week and not peak season we had about half that on the boat. It made it more enjoyable not to be packed in. The catamaran captain and staff were very nice and accommodating to the passengers. The price includes a nice buffet lunch (make your own sandwiches and a pasta salad). Drinks on the catamaran are unlimited rum drinks. The boat does a shorter trip to a quiet island with a nice sandy beach. You can practice your snorkeling skills there, or swim around in the beautiful water or just relax on the beach. After staying there for about 2 hours you move on to where there is a coral reef to snorkel and swim again. The underwater views are beautiful, the water was warm, it had to be warm for me to go in. The catamaran returns to the marina under sail power. All in all, a very fun excursion with a very good company. read more

My wife and I have done catamaran and boat snorkel trips in Barbados, the Bahamas, and now out of Farjado, Puerto Rico. The PR experience is the best one one yet. The boat was brand new and super clean obviously (we did not ride on catamaran, we were on a Newton 46 Dive Special - see picture: http://www.floridaseabasenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/319_1963b.jpg) The staff included a Captain and two mates. They all worked hard to make sure that all of the passengers were safe and having a good time. They served food, drinks, adult drinks - very regularly. They also spent a few minutes with every single member of the group (about 25 people) in order to make sure their snorkeling gear was working, and that they were happy and situated. My kids had never been snorkeling - so seeing some sea turtles was pretty high up on their list! We definitely saw turtles and it was a truly awesome experience for my family! Let's start of with good... * If you're looking for just snorkeling, they picked great spots. * The drinks were flowing after lunch. * The host, and the crew on the boat were pretty nice. * I saw them giving snorkel training, which is something really nice. * Thank God we got a different driver on the way back, cause he was really nice to his passengers (You'll read more on why later). Time for the bad... * Overall the bus and boat trip was pretty boring. The boat crew was nice, but didn't really interact with the passengers. * The food was basic. Pretty much ready made cold deli food. * I wish they let the passengers lie down on the net even when the boat wasn't parked. * Our driver (Eliud) to the boat had a HORRIBLE attitude, and is one of the main reasons for bad review. Here's why... We arrived at the meeting spot 10 mins before the pick up time, and wanted to buy some snacks. He kept telling us he was going to "leave us at the place exactly at 7:30am". Had he just warned us, it would have been fine. 5 minutes before the pick up time, he followed us to the snack shop and literally prevented us from buying things when we were so close to getting our items. Couple of minutes later past 7:30am, we asked him why we weren't leaving, and his answer was to go back in the bus because we have to wait for another family in the same location. When we confronted him about this, he kept avoiding us. Finally, the concierge at hotel came in and told us to grab the snacks. When we came back 5 minutes after, the driver told us he "felt threatened", and didn't want to take us. Completely ruined our initial part of our trip. That is not how you interact with customers! If it wasn't for the Hilton concierge, and the rest of the crew (including a different driver back to the hotel), this rating would have been much nicer. read more

Wow!! This was the highlight of our trip to Puerto Rico. It was our first time and you always want to make the "special excursions" worthwhile. I found a lot of other snorkeling expeditions for a lot more money but they booked up fast. When I called to inquire about Traveler, I got their voicemail but they got back right away. I saw all the reviews on Yelp so I was going in with a very positive attitude. The staff, especially Angelina (who is hilarious and as sweet as they get) are incredible. They know their stuff and you felt taken care of the entire trip. For $100, they pick you up at your location (we were staying in the Candado area of San Juan) and then drive you out to Fajardo, where the Catamaran leaves from. The driver is really great and knowledgable of the sights along the way. We went through a huge rain storm and were alarmed but it was just because we were passing through where the rainforest is. On to the trip. Two islands. The first you can get lessons for free to acclimate. Even if you're a good swimmer, take em. It's worth it. You get to see a lot of cool things in the first reef but it's more shallow. The second is a bit further out and deeper and it's like being plunked inside the coolest aquarium in the world. The most beautiful and gentle fish. It's breathtaking. In addition, they serve a buffet lunch where you make your own sandwiches and they have salads and fruit. Bar opens at 11 am but pace yourself. It's completely included in the price and I saw some folks down 10+ and were pretty buzzed at the end. All in all...it was amazing and it's our go to place when we visit again!! read more
