Amazing adventure! This was so much fun! I highly recommend doing this if you are adventurous at all! They keep you up-to-date if they have any cancellations and put you on the waitlist. Once you book they keep you in-the-know on the days leading up to the trip. I don't have anything negative to say, so here are some details: Pros: - they offer transportation and pick you up from your hotel or a nearby one (this is amazing help!) - the lunch they provided was at a local families' house which isn't something you can do unless you know someone. Super fun waterfall adventure tour. You do a bit of hiking, including through a few streams, and ultimately up to the top of a waterfall, which you rappel down. Then there are a few ziplines you're able to do, before hiking a short way back to where you started. I bought some cheap hiking sandals (make sure to get ones with a closed toe) on Amazon for twenty-ish bucks beforehand, and they were perfect and highly recommended for this tour. (Also used them hiking at El Yunque later on). After the tour is over, you visit the house of a Puerto Rican grandmother who cooks you lunch... which was absolutely delicious. On such a lush island, there are tons of eco and adventure tours to choose from; tons of tours that include waterfall rappelling, canyoneering, hiking, ziplining, etc. I looked at many tour companies and eventually settled on Rocaliza. I chose the full day El Salto Waterfall tour that included roundtrip transportation (from designated pick-up spots), hiking, waterfall rappelling, ziplining, and a meal. It was a good value, even during high season. We were scheduled to be picked up at 9:00 AM at a designated pick-up location just a few blocks away from the apartment we were staying at in Santurce. December is the high season and we had a full van of adventure seekers (twelve total, a good sized group), all escaping the winter cold back home. Throughout the ride, Diego pointed out places to eat, things to do, both in the area and all around the island, gave us some history, and tossed in some jokes. These guys are funny! We were taken to the Carite Forest in Caguas and handed helmets and harness to rappel and zipline. With so many activities, I wondered how good each activity could be. Let me say, it was designed very, very well and the timing for everything was perfect! The hike to the waterfall is short, but considerably strenuous as far as terrain. It had lots of elevation, muddy trails, hiking upstream in ankle, knee, and even waist deep water, and climbing slippery rocks with ropes. The pace is very slow, so it wasn't cardio-heavy; we just needed to be careful. The guides ask us not to take photos while hiking so that we can use all fours when necessary. They have a system of pointing out exactly where to step. We felt very safe the entire time with our three guides monitoring every move. At certain stops, a guide would grab our phones to takes photos of us where it was safe. The same guide also played cameraman during the rappelling portion, making sure we had videos and photos of the experience to take home. A snack of fresh fruits was provided after when we reached the bottom of the waterfall. Five ziplines later, we were taken to grandma's house for a home-cooked meal, and then headed back. Staff was super... We were picked up at Plaza Las America's and off we went went. This is a full day of adventure with climbing our way up a mountain to an 80 foot waterfall that we rappelled down. (Amazing) Then it was off to 5 zip lines not super long but the views are breathtaking. Finally we head over to grandmas house for a home-cooked lunch. (also some homemade rum if your old enough 2 bucks) The staff also educates you about the area and foliage. Safety is a priority so you are wearing a helmet the whole trip and a harness. Take some water with you and a dry bag (you will get wet all the way up to the family jewels and beyond) We always take an old pair of sneakers and then donate them to the local farmers afterwards. If you're looking for a tour that does multiple activities, this is the one. We got picked by the tour guide who drove us to the house where we started our excursion. The ride up was a little much especially if you're not used to back and forth uphill driving by a local. We arrived to the house where we started with a short hike up the hill that lead us to the trail head. Hiked through the river and forest to our first climb which wasn't hard but also not easy. Everyone in our group made it and we all had different physical abilities. After a few climbs we ended at a checkpoint where the guide tells you there's no turning back once you get to the top of the fall. Reached the top of the falls to rappel down which was amazing. We had one person in our group that decided not to rappel but once everyone else did it, they were a little upset they missed out. After the rappel, we did a few zip lines to the bottom where we were served with lunch that was prepared by the grandma and it was absolutely delish. I would give them five stars but the only negative out of the day was the tour guide not understanding the physical ability of some and basically made you do everything unless you said you couldn't go more. Every vacation, my husband and I try to do something fun, and I insisted on the adventure even though my husband was kind of iffy. He totally changed his mind when we got started. This is one of the best times we've ever had. The guides Diego, Sammy, and Ellie were super awesome and patient with us from hike, to rappel, to zip lines. The hike is definitely not for the faint of heart, but is so much fun and rewarding as heck. The views alone make up for the slippery climb up. We stopped at several locations to take photos. The waterfalls were amazing, and well, have I mentioned Blackie the amazing doggo who does the climb with us? At first, I thought the guides were joking, but nope, Blackie was a big lovable jamon of a dog who kept us company the whole way. He was amazing. Finally, the food at grandma's house was delicious. It tasted like homemade love. We were also able to sample pitorro rum which was the icing on the day's adventurous. If you are in Puerto Rico, this is definitely worth it. WOW is the only thing that I have to say! This was worth it and much more. From the convenience of the pickup and how flexible they were with me. My experience started the day before when they started texting me and just making sure everything was good and where I could have been picked up at making it easy for everyone else. The ride was great, also they stopped at a store to use the restroom before we got to the jungle. I have to say also that the music was on point. Getting to the destination was beautiful. We parked at the owner's grandmother's house which has a very warm touch and kindness that a lot of people have never seen before. After we got into our harnesses and helmets, we started the steep climb to start the trail. They had safety ropes along the way that helped a lot. They gave great advice on how to stay safe and just about the entire time there was a guide in the front, center, and the end watching us. Working our way up to some beautiful spots to take pictures was amazing. When we got to do the repelling off the waterfall was unforgettable 100%, they took everyone's phone and took pictures of them on the way down so you could share it with friends and family. Waterfalls rappelling, I was very nervous, but they talked me through it and I definitely felt safe doing it. After the repelling, we went on to 3 zip lines that were so cool. After a half day of hiking, rappelling, and zip lining we had an authentic dinner prepared by the owner's grandmother that was so good. Literally just walked in the door from this excursion and I had to write this review asap. This tour is UNBELIEVABLE!!! If you want adventure with lush tropical beauty including amazing waterfalls, look no further. Our guides today were Michael & Ely. Two very professional and personable people. They picked us up at our hotel on time, at the time designated by the company. We had another 2 people with us to pick up and then we were off to the jungle. Michael was sharing so much great information about the island, the towns we were driving through and also informing us of what to expect for the day. Once we arrived at the location we were given our harnesses and helmets and we were off for adventure. I will say that you should really read the trips suggested list of what to have. The scaling, or climbing up wet rocks and unstable terrain will require the right shoes. We wore Teva's and they were great, but still slippery at times. So know that you will be working yourself out on this hike! Michael & Ely were so great, they made sure we were safe at all times, and they even took pictures for us throughout the adventure. The hike was amazing, and so beautiful! Next was the repelling! WOW! 80 feet down for a first timer was hella intimidating, but such a rush once we got down and the view is unbelievable! Michael was great to give us a mini lesson on repelling as none of us had ever done that before. Ely took the most amazing pictures, one I am sharing. After repelling, we moved on to the zip lining. 5 zip lines, each one getting longer and more spectacular than the previous. The coolest part is the view. You will get a view like you have never had! If you have a GoPro, I would suggest you mount it to your helmet and let it go! After all that hard work, it was time for a home cooked meal from the local family that lives on the mountain. A yummy meal of chicken and rice and beans with homemade flan! A relaxing finish to a super adventurous day. I cannot say enough great things about this day. Our group had a great time on this adventure tour. The guides were fun, friendly, professional, and did a great job ensuring the safety of all participants. Don't be concerned with having to carry everything you bring either. You can leave your extra clothes/shoes, etc. in the van, which is parked/locked in a secure area at the base of your tour. The day of our tour, most people didn't bring any water on the trek and were just fine, but if you want to bring water, a 16-20 ounce bottle should do it. Don't worry about bringing your 110 ounce camelback, it will just be a waste of effort. As for the trekking, rappelling, and zip-lines, you should be in decent condition and should be flexible enough to climb over wet rocks and maintain good footing. read more

Our favorite part of our vacation on Puerto Rico was definitely El Salto full day tour with Rocaliza. Jacob picked us up at 9:00 am from our little hotel in El Condado and drove us to the city of Caguas where the adveture takes place. He was well informed of the island and educated us on the city's history and the families who live on the mountains. When we got to the beautiful destination, Samuel our other guide was waiting. Since the start of this adventurous tour Jacob and Samuel made us feel welcome and safe. The tour consisted of hiking through the waterfalls and led us to El Salto a high point of our trail where we repelled. We then ziplined through the rainforest (5 ziplines). Our final joy was the home cooked meal from Abuela (grandmother) one of thr ladies of the Figureroa family, owners of the land. Really, I highly recommend this tour if you visit the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. I plan to come back again and bring the kids to do this tour. read more

If I could give this place 10 stars I would! The staff is absolutely amazing and safety is their number one priority! My Boyfriend and I did this tour and we were very pleased! Staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful! We did the full day tour! It's a bit pricey, but worth every penny! We were picked up from our hotel and driven to the rainforest about 45 minutes away! There were two staff preset one was Driving and the other was like a tour guide and was able to provide different spots that we could tour and local attractions! When we arrived to the rainforest we were put into helmets and harnesses ! I warn you the helmets smell super ba. I had some wet wipes and even tried to wipe away the smell but it didn't go away. From there We toured the rainforest, waterfalls, and got to see different plants and we were able to drink from the local Springs. This was spectacular! After we ate a local meal that did not disappoint! I recommend this to anyone that wants to feel safe and have fun at the same time! Just took fantastic pictures were super funny! read more

After seeing the great reviews here and on another site, I decided to book this about a week before we were traveling to Puerto Rico. I'm so glad I did! We did the half day El Salto waterfall hike. Diego and Hector picked us up from our hotel. They were even 10 minutes early, which I thought was nice! They were super friendly and learned our names immediately, which I thought was nice! There were a total of 9 people on our trip. During the drive to our destination, Diego talked a lot about Puerto Rico. He was very informative and funny. You will stop at a Walgreens about 10 minutes before you arrive at the final destination to use the restroom. The drive up through the mountains is really pretty and you get to see a side of the island that you probably wouldn't have seen without them. You do need to be physically fit for this trip. Although the hardest part was the first 10 minutes of walking up the steep incline to the entrance into the rain forest that they use. Be sure to wear shoes that you are willing to throw out. You will be standing in water pretty much the entire time. I brought old sneakers knowing I would toss them at the end. I did bring my nice D-SLR camera. I brought a normal backpack to put it in while we hiked and rock climbed and it never got wet. The times when you are in the water for a picture are only a few, and during those times you can give your camera to one of the guides and they will take a picture for you. The only thing I would have changed is that I didn't take the time to take enough pictures. I felt rushed to take pictures so we could continue our hike. I understand why we can't just stand around taking pictures, and they do stop at multiple points to rest and allow pictures. I just didn't do a good job and I didn't realize until the end of the trip that the pictures I had taken without a flash were coming out really blurry. I know the guides will recommend you take the pictures without a flash because the light is really pretty without it, but I found that all my pictures were blurry without a stable tripod to use instead. About half way through the trip, you will take a short break and the guides will have some fresh, local fruit. We had bananas and mangoes. I have never tasted anything so sweet and delicious!! Zip-lining was great! You get to do it 3 times! I always felt safe and secure during it. At the end of the meal, you walk across the street and you have lunch at the owner's home of the family who owns all the land. The rain forest that you are hiking is private land owned by a family. We all sat on the patio and they served us appetizers, lunch, and dessert! It was really good! By the end, I was exhausted and even fell asleep during the ride back to the hotel. I was a little sore the next day and I still have a few bruises from rock climbing, but I loved it! I would highly recommend this company. Our PR trip would not have been complete without this experience. They pick you up from the hotel, and right before you get to the site, they stop at Walgreens so you can pick up any last minute items you may need. I packed a few snacks, but the course was so fun, I forgot to eat them. We are both "outdoor" people who love white water rafting, ziplining, kayaking, so this place was a perfect adventure for us. The hike that we took through the rain forest up the waterfall was absolutely breathtaking. (I love nature, so maybe it was just me)... It was not our first time ziplining, but it was both of our first times rappelling, and we had a fantastic time. There is one part right before you get ready to rappel, you can't really see because of all of the trees, but once you get down in position to rappel down, you see..... WOW!!! is all I can say. I won't give it away.... You'll just have to see for yourself. This was a fantastic end to our trip. We went on a few excursions and this was by far our favorite! The hike up to the waterfall was amazing! I wouldn't say it was difficult but it was different from a hike most would be use to. It's a lot of scrambling through the river. It was something I have never experienced.
