We had a small job and this company was recommended. Unfortunately, the job that we called for was apparently too small for them! I received a call from one of their representatives saying that they were going to "refrain" from our job! I am glad that business is so good for them that they can turn work down. Cabinet Gallery of Woonsocket, RI just completed remodeling my kitchen and bathroom in Cumberland. The bottom line is I would not recommend them. The overall workmanship, quality, and project management was extremely poor. The Good: 1. We love the cabinets and appliances that we selected, but we could have purchased those anywhere. 2. Carol was always available when we called and always pleasant to speak with. The Bad and The Ugly: Bathroom: I had Cabinet Gallery reinstall the new tub/shower three times and finally came to the realization that they just weren't capable of installing it correctly. I don't quite know what was giving them such problems, but it came out so poorly that a friend of mine asked me why I remodeled the entire bathroom (taking it down to the studs) but didn't replace the old tub. It looked that bad. I wish I could post pictures with this review. Overall Contractor Experience: I feel that Cabinet Gallery added no value to the project. There was very little communication throughout the project unless we called periodically to asked for status. There was so much construction debris left behind that we weren't even aware that the project was complete until they called asking for the final payment . Seriously, they left an open bag of tile grout, a ceiling light fixture, a through-wall vent fan, a bunch of baseboard heating equipment, two full doors and a port-a-potty in our backyard. Communication: Non-existent. One example: We received a call one afternoon telling us that the plumber would be by in the morning and that we needed to go to the store that evening to pick out our garbage disposal, bathroom faucet, and kitchen faucet. That was very poor planning and I expected a bit more notice than that. Damage: A few things were damaged during the demolition. That's to be expected and I wouldn't mind as long as I was notified about it and it was promptly fixed. But, if I hadn't discovered these and called Carol, they wouldn't have been repaired. For example, a sledgehammer went through the bedroom wall while they removing the tub and they broke a window casing and a door casing while they were removing the kitchen cabinets. Again, the issue I have is that I had to call and ask them to repair these things. It makes me wonder what else they damaged that went undiscovered. Subcontractors: I think one of the major problems with Cabinet Gallery is that they have only a couple of direct employees. Most of the craft workers are subcontractors. I didn't think that would be an issue, but it's actually had a huge negative impact on my overall experience. There is a communication gap between the subs, Cabinet Gallery, and the homeowner. 1. Electrical example: They had an electrical subcontractor working in the kitchen. He opened some breakers and labeled them "do not use". Roger (Cabinet Gallery owner) came by several days later and told me all of the appliances were in and the kitchen was fully functional. I showed Roger that that was not true; the stove, dishwasher and garbage disposal still had no power. So, Roger took the labels off the breakers and closed them. When the electrician returned later that week he was surprised to learn that someone closed the breakers. Apparently, the electrician wasn't done when Roger closed the breakers and we unknowingly had live wires hanging in the living area for a few days. 2. Plumbing example: I ordered a new washer and dryer. When Lowes came to install it, we found out that the plumber removed the existing hot and cold water supply to the washer. Huh? Lowes left, the plumber reluctantly came back and reran lines to the washer, and I spent my Saturday balancing and installing the washer and dryer which I had already paid Lowes to do. Believe me, that's not as simple as you may think with these new front-load steam washers and dryers. Cleanliness: One of the worst parts of this project is that Cabinet Gallery left a horrible mess after they were done with the plumbing and electrical. Words cannot describe it; I wish that I could post my pictures (you would be shocked). They usually vacuumed up in the kitchen and bathroom, but they never even ran a broom in the basement where most of the mess was. Unfortunately, that's where we moved all of our kitchen items before we began remodeling. Much of it was ruined. There was so much dust, dirt, sawdust and even gravel that we couldn't see trying to save things that were used to prepare food. I showed Roger the destruction in the basement and he assured me that it must have been one of his subcontractors responsible for that and not an employee of Cabinet Gallery. That really doesn't make a difference to me. I don't differentiate between a Cabinet Gallery employee or one of their subcontractors. As far as I'm concerned, they're all Cabinet Gallery. In my opinion, I wouldn't recommend Cabinet Gallery of Woonsocket, RI. read more
