Umm did I just find the best coffee shop in the ABQ area?! Seriously this spot is so good. I got a whole milk latte with blueberry syrup and honestly it was heavenly. So I just moved to ALB in August. I've passed this place probably 6-12 times as I go up for a hike on the sandia crest. I finally stopped by on a Saturday morning after a hike with my daughter (6 months), she won't remember this. However you will if you go. It's a super cute coffee shop, with a lovely wooden/mountain-ish vibe. I thought it was awesome. The barista's are awesome, and even had a conversation with me about hiking wheeler peak (easy-difficult etc). I'm excited to do that hike next week. I got an oatmilk PSL. Yup, the white girl in me loves the season flavors. It was delicious, tasty, and the foam art. I mean, They do such nice foam art, but I was on the go, so the appreciation is there. I just didn't share it with any. I thought this place was great, the view, location, and coffee. I cannot wait for winter time for hot chocolate there on a snowy mountain. read more

Adorable little coffee place. We found it after we brought some visitors to Tinkertown. It was a Sunday and they were open. Delicious coffee and the orange scone was pretty darned good. Nice atmosphere inside and the little patio was perfect for a nice September afternoon. Friendly service, too! read more

Cabra coffee has been on my list for quite a while now and so I was delighted to finally have a chance to check them out. I decided to stop by before driving up the back of the mountain with a friend. They conveniently have a drive-through, which was very nice considering how much snow we have gotten recently and all the mud in the parking lot. There are posted menus that you can read before you get to the window and I decided to get a breakfast burrito as well as a 12 ounce lavender latte. I will say the coffee smelt amazing and it was a really good latte but the size felt small. I would probably get a 16 ounce next time around and hopefully will return when the weather isn't so gross so that I can enjoy the interior. The building was really cute from the outside and very convenient to get to right off the main road. As for the breakfast burrito, as someone who has lived in New Mexico, their entire life and eaten a solid amount of breakfast burritos, I've never seen such a paper thin burrito. It was basically 75% tortilla. For $4.50 I absolutely would not purchase another one. The chile was decently spicy but really overall not great. read more

This is such a cute coffee shop out on the east mountains! My husband and I were stay in the mountains for a weekend getaway, and as usual, I got to check my coffee map. Cabra was an unexpected find for somewhere out in the mountain. We stopped by for our morning coffee/tea and breakfast and were a little surprised by how full it is. It feels like not merely a local coffee center but a hub where people near by come to work, talk, and meet. Will come back if we're in the area again read more

We stopped at Cabra Coffee to get some fuel for our drive from Albuquerque to Santa Fe and it was a great stop to make ! Location/parking: It's right off the road and very easy to get to! Especially since we weren't familiar with the area at all, we appreciated how easy it was to access. There's tons of parking as well Environment/ space: There's a lot of outside seating with covered patio space. When we stopped there wasn't much traffic on the road (I can't imagine There's ever much traffic) and there was a lovely breeze flowing through as well. The interior has quite a bit of seating and one really cute nook with string lights in it. There's also some great photography available for sale around the place that ties back to nature which I loved ! Coffee: The Coffee is amazing ! It's probably some of the best coffee we've had ! It's made really well and the flavors are so good. I also got a tea which was equally delicious. Also, they do have a drive through window ! We've gone here when it was Kokopelli's so it's been many years. Cabra Cafe has great coffee, food, and chai. We often go here with our dog, order some food and coffee and sit out on the patio. Then we walk our dog on the nearby trailhead. It's a pleasant ride from Albuquerque and in the winter, it often snows. So pretty. Highly recommend! read more

I'd never stopped here myself to get coffee but always had co-workers or friends stop by here. I ordered a lavender latte and it was wonderful as well as a gluten-free coconut macaroon. I wish there were more options for gluten-free, but I understand it isn't feasible or affordable for small coffee shops to have a wide selection. The coffee was at a great temperature and was wonderful. I was a little confused by a $0.75 upcharge if you wanted an iced version of a drink, as it isn't much more work nor extra costs that are prohibitive for a business. I worked in a small coffee shop during college and it was just as much time to prepare cold as hot drinks, we even used iced coffee cubes to prevent dilution. The drive-thru line was fairly slow, which is the deduction of my star. I waited over 30 minutes and had I realized how long the line would have been, it would have been better for me time-wise and environmentally wise to not run my car waiting. Overall a great place. I also appreciate that when visiting smaller places like this, I am much less likely to get dairied by accident and spend the rest of my day out of service. read more

I have seen this place a few times and wondered about it. Today I didn't make my brew at home and decided we should support our local coffee house. We enjoyed the Beautiful drive to Cedar Crest. I had a Vanilla Iced Latte that was perfectly delicious. My daughter ordered a cold brew lavender coffee that she said was strong with an airy taste. Unexpected phenomenal find outside of Albuquerque! We stumbled across this gem in the mountains during our drive from Montana back to Texas. In an almost 2000 mile road trip, this was hands down the best coffee we've had since we left home. For the true coffee lover, this spot met every expectation. Great coffee shop in Cedar Crest. Perfect after skiing, running, or biking the Sandias. Right next to the brewery as well. They have a homemade lavender syrup that is amazing; highly recommend a lavender americano. Unfortunately burritos weren't great, but I've only tried it once. Truly the best coffee in the ABQ-Bernalillo area and East Mountains. I have felt this way for several years now. I am a bit of a coffee snob and while I do have my favorite neighborhood cafes in the Q, Cabra stays in my heart as the best espresso I've had since living in New Mexico. I consult my "treat horseshoe", wherein I will travel a distance to get a tasty beverage if I am having a REALLY GOOD day or a REALLY AWFUL day. Cabra is my destination. Ambience can't be beat, somehow it's always poppin in here despite being 20 minutes out from the city. Great views of the mountains. I think the coffee tastes even better on a chilly winter morning on their patio. Anyway, lavender is having its moment in coffee and this is the only lavender latte you should bother with. This little local shop is the perfect little joint for Cedar Crest. It has indoor (currently not allowed) and outdoor dining space to sip your cup of joe on. They also carry some breakfast burritos and some pastries made in shop, some of which are even gluten free. It's a great meet up spot if you plan to do some business, too. The few times I've used their bathrooms, they are always clean and well maintained. The crew are always friendly and are courtesy to ensure they are taking customers first come first served. They have a nice drive through where they are keeping things pretty COVID safe. Rad place, I'll return. read more

The best coffee shop in the East Mountains! We've been out here for 25 years and this is the best coffee and the best service that has ever opened up out here. Everything from the drip and pour over coffee to the lattes is fantastic. I think they make their own syrups in house and it really makes for flavorful rich drinks. Their gingerbread latte at Christmas time is delightful. My go to in the summer is their lavender latte. The service is always outstanding. In fact, they often have my husbands order ready to go before he even gets to the order window! It's adorable inside and it's got a great view of the mountain! The patio is particularly nice right now. They also have really tasty burritos and locally made baked goods. Soooo good! read more

While camping in the area I came across Cabra Coffee. Great little coffee/eats joint. Nice, friendly service, good coffee and even though I did not try any a very delicious looking assortment of breakfast muffins/treats. I stopped in every morning of my trip and enjoyed the coffee and the quiet, quaint atmosphere while reading my book. Perfect cross between modern chic and quiet mountain getaway. Right in the backyard of the Sandia mountain town of Cedar Crest, you can grab a coffee on your way to a hike or to ski. The espresso was rich. They had alternate options for dairy, which was appreciated. Their baked goods were fresh and light. Their Italian sodas were also perfectly blended. Will definitely stop here more often when needing a quiet getaway from the humdrum of Abq. read more

Specialties

We offer specialty coffee and loose-leaf teas and specialize in scratch made syrups, chai, pastries and burritos. We use as many organic ingredients as possible and skip anything artificial.

History

Established in 2017.

We opened in April 2017 with our current coffee and tea menu. Later that year, we opened our drive thru window. And in spring 2018 we started baking pastries in house from scratch and added burritos shortly after.

Meet the Business Owner: Hannah J.

Hannah started working in the coffee industry as a barista in 2009 while obtaining a biology degree in Washington. After graduating, she continued to work in the coffee industry while pursuing a career in conservation biology and came to realize she preferred working as a barista. She moved back home to New Mexico to open Cabra Coffee and has been ecstatic with her decision ever since!

This place definitely falls into the first category. This morning I went with the single origin Guatemala drip, and it was exactly what a solid cup of coffee should be. Smooth, rich, and balanced with a nice chocolate note that hangs around just long enough to make you take another sip. No bitterness. No burnt taste. Just a clean, well-roasted cup that says someone here actually cares about the beans. The shop itself has a personality, which I always appreciate. It's decorated with fishing lures, fish artwork, and sculptures scattered around the place. Naturally this leads to the obvious conclusion: the owner is either an avid fisherman... or coffee roasting is just the side hustle between trout expeditions. Either way, the theme works. The space feels relaxed, creative, and comfortable. The kind of place where you can sit with a cup and not feel rushed out the door. And speaking of doors, while I was there there was a steady flow of customers coming in and out. That's usually the universal coffee signal for yep, this place is doing something right. Bottom line: Great coffee, cool atmosphere, and a shop with enough character to keep things interesting. I'll definitely be back for another cup of that Guatemala.

Very mild chocolate, I believe it is Dutch chocolate if my memory services me not to sweet which I appreciate. It was delightfully well balanced. The coffee itself is very smooth and not bitter, excellent taste! I will be back for sure to try other options there are lots of choices. I should have taken a picture of the menu. There is ample seating both inside and outside, had I not had my toddler with me I would have loved to sit out front but it is right by the road so a no go with a rambunctious little boy... There is additional outside seating to the side and farther from the road too. I look forward to my next trip.

I've been buying from Moon's for years, and during a trip for the Balloon Fiesta in 2019, my son and I had the pleasure of meeting Joy and Jori in person. They were so kind and welcoming, and it made us appreciate their work even more. In my opinion, their roasting is spot-on--rich, flavorful, and always balanced. Every blend I've tried has been incredible. Having a burr grinder to grind these is key! My son's more of a tea guy, and he was excited to pick up some of their loose leaf selections too. If you ever get the chance, go visit Moon's and meet these wonderful folks. The coffee somehow tastes even better when you know who's behind it.
