I'm shocked that this coffee roasters only rates 4.1 stars on Yelp at the time of this review. I've been three times now on two trips to the ABQ and I have not had better coffee anywhere in the world. Milan, Paris, Rome, London, New York, San Francisco, Singapore, Java, Auckland, or Portland, Oregon. Nowhere has done better than this. Y'all are a tough crowd. They use a wide variety of beans and roast them with a lot of nuance to bring out the strengths of each variety. They pull outstanding shots. They teach classes in appreciating coffee. They run food and clothing drives for people in need. They are LGBTQ+ welcoming. They sell weird gifts. They have a charming patio in a sweet neighborhood. They have books and games. Their bags of beans are just as good, and they stay fresh longer than any store bought beans I've ever purchased anywhere. (At home I roast my own because freshness is paramount.) Ok, everyone else has already talked about what a lovely vibe this place is. It's cozy, the people are friendly and I feel very welcomed. There's even a little food pantry and a little free library! But what makes this place even better? They use frozen coffee cubes for their iced coffee! Why more places don't do this is beyond me. Rarely do I have opinions about settings, but Michael Thomas has an impressive backyard that was ideal for today. It took some time for me to learn but 50 degrees here isn't like 50 degrees back east. The beverage variety is impressive, maybe even intimidating. I have to update my review of Michael Thomas Coffee, after 8 years of being a fan! While I am from Fort Worth, Texas, Michael Thomas is ALWAYS the first stop for my family when we travel to ABQ. The service is friendly and welcoming. This past visit my family ordered The Tony, a Chai Latte, and a Blackberry Latte (all with oat milk). The chai was the best chai I've tasted and the blackberry latte was perfectly sweet without being overpowering. Michael Thomas makes an excellent latte and have such a cute and homey location that invites customers to stay awhile. They also have a wide selection of coffee beans for purchase and for consumption. We typically buy a bag when we are in town just so we can bring some Michael Thomas home with us. read more

After a nice morning run in Nob Hill, a stop at the neighborhood coffee house is a must. The Cafe Americana is my favorite. Add cinnamon powder and it is perfection. Enjoyed the aesthetic of the coffee shop. One side you have an open area surrounded by plants, perfect for summer and spring. Then you have the inside of the shop which looks like it use to be a home. Very cozy, homey vibes. Bathroom was extremely clean which is a major plus. Now the coffee, this place is one of the only places in New Mexico to have an espresso tonic. Perfect balanced and their syrups didn't over power the espresso shot. They are ahead of the game compared to most coffee shops out here. Espresso flavors have been great in their espresso tonic and lattes. The coffee flavors they produce demonstrate they aren't simply burning their coffee beans. Their baristas don't overly milk their drinks and they actually do an amazing job at texturing their milk. I found this place by happenstance as this was one of the few (non Starbucks) locations open at 6AM. They were able to fulfill my pretty demanding order of renting their 5 gallon and 2 gallon coffee urns in an hour turn around (+ cups, stir sticks, sugar, creamer, AND they threw in an entire oat milk creamer carton when I asked for a non-dairy alternative) all for a very reasonable price. The ambiance is so cozy and very welcoming. The three employees behind the counter were so so friendly, knowledgeable, efficient and extremely helpful. I've loved visiting this place for our large coffee orders over multiple days, and received compliments on the coffee at our event. I can't say enough good things about this coffee. Everything is so so good from their Nutella latte to their americano. Today I stopped in to get two drinks both made with oatmilk. After I left something tasted off so I brought it back to ask them to remake it. It is a lovely place to study or work. The iced coffee is excellent. I have also had a pot of the Yerba Matte tea on occasion, which is also delightful. Overall, it is very nice!! My only critique is that it can be quite cold inside the cafe. I am unsure if their heating is not functioning properly or what, but I was extremely cold when I went today (and I had three jackets on). Another critique is that the burritos are not as delicious as I was expecting. However, given that it is a coffee house, I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised that their burritos are simply not very impressive. Customer service is also lovely!! I really enjoy this space and their customer service is 100. They have a delicious chai tea and fantastic London fog. I have also bought their whole bean coffee as a gift for others. Both their Nicaraguan and Colombian beans and my friends loved it. The reason this review is only getting 4 stars is because they have Rebel Donut donuts for sale, which means their supporting a known anti-Black, pro-police business in Albuquerque. Love this little coffee shop! If you come on a day when it's not bright and sunny outside you may not get a seat! Despite a specialty teas shop across the street and two other shops boasting their own roasting, MTC is rocking this corner just south of Central Avenue. Specialty teas, coffee and some baked treats may be what they sell, but the atmosphere is really a huge part of what they offer. Truthfully, on a cool, wet wintry day you can realistically expect standing room only at this UNM area barista bevy. It's a favorite stop for college students and retirees alike. Clean and appealing, it appears to be a renovated house that still feels warm and inviting. They have a second location near Gibson and Carlisle which is also fun but perhaps a little less busy. Chocolate Maven treats in the bakery case, and lovely service with a smile. This patio is hands down one of the best coffee sippin patios around. Beautiful foliage, pet and bike friendly, too! Major points however for being THE ONLY place in town selling my traveling coffee tube thingie...a must have when traveling to areas that you can't get a good cup of joe.
