It's silly for me to admit this, but for the longest time I thought that Cactus & Tropicals was an event venue. I'd heard so many people talking about attending weddings there that I just assumed that's all it was. It wasn't until a few years ago that I realized that it's a lovely nursery that also hosts events. So, I wasn't all the way wrong. I wandered in today and saw just how beautiful it is. There are so many plants, trees and flowers that you can take home and try not to kill. No matter how hard I try though, I seem to always kill my plants. So I've learned that it's best for me to come visit them in places like this, enjoy their beauty and then leave before anyone gets hurt. read more

We didn't know what to expect from this store but were happily surprised and we will be back. The store was absolutely beautiful and understand why it's used as a reception hall at night. The number of options for plants, planters, etc was impressive especially in the climate we live in here in Utah. The workers were all very knowledgeable with any plant we had questions about. Love this location, everyone is always so helpful. I've learned a lot from the employees, and have received good advice for my plants. HOWEVER, I'm frustrated with their returns policy. I made a large purchase, and came to return extra planters and unopened soil 8 days later from my purchase. I was informed I could only get store credit, and not my money back! I find it frustrating because no one informed me of this (even when purchasing, I said I may have some returns), and it doesn't mention anything about that on the receipt about store credit after 7 days. Please update your customers with these changes, or even just do the curtesy of putting it on the receipt!!! read more

Love their products and customer service. However they really need to change their coupon policy. It's a waste of your customer's time as well as employee if the customer can only use one coupon per transaction. Even bed bath and beyond used to allow you to use more than one. That just means we have to have multiple transactions or go to the car drop off one plant and come back and buy another. Again waste of time. Please rethink this business practice because it's like c0vid masks all over again. Wear into restaurant take off while eating. Wear again to use the restaurant. Makes no sense. read more

I had the greatest experience at Cactus and Tropicals recently. I had a problem with a plant that I had purchased there. The plant was not thriving and I wanted someone to help me with it. Nathalie approached me and asked me how she could help. She spent a lot of time with me talking about the specific plant I had and even trimmed up it's limbs for me. She then replanted my pot for me and I left a very satisfied customer. I highly recommend the store and Nathalie to anyone who needs help and has some specific plant needs! Wow this place is gorgeous!!! Came in looking for Spring bulbs and ended up perusing for much longer. Wide array of various sized pots, and while you're thinking all your plants have a pot - I was thinking there are wayyyy prettier than any pot I have! Would make a great house-warming gift with one of their plants! They also had a large section of perennials but smaller of annuals but understandably so in October. But the perennials they did have were in amazing condition - like cream of the crop hydrangeas! Tons of succulents and everything you would need to make a succulent biome which I love. They also carry many garden and plant accessories such as pots and some tools. For gift giving occasions like mother's day or birthdays, Cactus & Tropicals has great gifts for moms or that special someone. Why buy someone cut flowers when you can given them a live plant that will last for months or even years? The cost is about the same, but there is a lot more value in giving a live plant because it will last much longer. Cactus & Tropicals also provides a free "gift wrapping" service. Pick out a plant and they'll wrap it with a beautiful ribbon and bow of your choosing and provide care instructions as well. They'll also re-pot plants for you if you find a pot you like better. Besides being an active nursery and garden shop, Cactus & Tropicals also rents out their greenhouse and store for weddings and receptions. We attended a friend's wedding here a few years ago and it was beautiful! There were plants everywhere of course and it added an outdoor feeling to an indoor wedding, which was fun. Smaller specialty nursery. This is where you go for quality arrangements and flowers. Also a nicbe venue for weddings and gatherings. you will pay more than going to Home Depot but several of the workers have been there a while and know their stuff so it is worth the extra $ for informative guidance. I went to Glover the over day and it is massive and I couldn't find anything or get help. The prices were also a lot more then C&T which seemed a lot given the location and service. read more

I stopped by Cactus & Tropicals to get a unique gift for my mom's birthday, based on all of the good word of mouth that I've heard about this business. I had high expectations going into the experience, and I wasn't disappointed. A woman who works there helped me select a great flowering plant, and when I mentioned that it was for my mom, she gift wrapped that thing like a champ. Even though it's been about a month since I bought the plant, it's still blooming! My mom brags on it every time I visit. It's not the cheapest place around, but it's worth it to me to pay a little extra for a knowledgeable, helpful staff and and incredible selection. What a lovely nursery! I visited here on a quest for an unusual plant to give as a gift. They certainly have a unique selection, which also includes more traditional plants. I noticed lots of cacti and succulents, "bonsai" trees with pots, decorations, and accessories, orchids, a small seed selection of vegetables and flowers (including some native wildflower seeds from Montana), a fairy garden section (plants and accessories), air plants (tillandsia) and even a small floral department (It looks like they probably do a lot of corsages, boutonnieres, and that sort of thing, perhaps weddings, but they did have a small cooler of cut flowers too). They will have outdoor plants when in season, although this past weekend I think all they had were pansies. They have a large selection of pots and containers, as well as plants they've already arranged in nicer containers with moss, etc. They had some gifts, which were located in a sort of little house. It consisted of what you would usually expect to find: candles, little figurines, dish towels, etc. They host events here, and it is quite pretty. It would make a lovely venue, although it seems rather small for a very large party (like a wedding, which is what it seems most suited to in every other way). They offer a rewards program, and said they will send "points" around Mother's Day and Christmas via mail. They also give you a 20% off coupon that never expires when you sign up. Some other reviewers have stated they find it pricey, and I would normally tend to agree, but in comparing the prices of most of their plants to a home improvement store I think they are comparable, but much better quality. Yes, if you buy a plant all prepared in a pretty container and decorated it's going to be more than elsewhere, but what do you expect? Along the same vein they did have some expensive cacti that were about five feet tall and a few hundred dollars. But it's a cactus as tall as a person, I don't think that price is unwarranted. My only complaint would be that I was there for at least a half an hour, and while there were plenty of employees wandering around, not one greeted me, or even smiled at me, and they weren't incredibly busy. I didn't need any help, but that just seemed to be surprising given that it's clear they consider themselves a more upscale nursery. When I was ready to check out I walked up to the cash register, and someone immediately came over to help me, which I appreciated, but also showed they were clearly aware I was there the whole time. I will be back to shop again, and hopefully this was just a one time thing. read more

This was the first time that I'd been to the Draper location of Cactus + Tropicals, and it was a lovely experience. The plants are beautiful and the facility smelled good. Fresh and earthy. There was so much neat stuff to look at that we ran out of time. The cactuses and succulents were neatly displayed towards the front, and the houseplants were further back. I noticed that they were organized by levels of sunlight/watering, etc. The nursery's intuitive layout makes the place very easy to navigate for both new and seasoned customers. The two employees I spoke with were super kind and gave sage advise for the plants I was purchasing. The place was a little busy but the employees took time to speak with me. I appreciate their excellent customer service. I bought a gorgeous plant with multiple new pups sprouting out of it! I was so dang excited because I really know I got my money's worth. I've seen how plants at other nurseries will have their pups plucked to propagate, but not at C+T! You really get what you pay for here: artistic & knowledgeable employees, beautiful atmosphere, well maintained and top-quality happy plants, -- and I love that they're locally owned. Things cost a little more here since they aren't "big box" retailers with everything sourced from China. The products are very good quality!! The soil they use is dark and lush, it doesn't smell of fertilizer in there, and so on. There's a lot to appreciate at Cactus + Tropicals, so please disregard the negative reviews that don't accurately depict how great this place really is! I didn't get the opportunity to look at their pots or greenhouse where the outdoor plants were. I will be back, and I'm already looking forward to it. read more

I've been here a bunch of times. I've purchased many items from their garden. I've purchased bonsai's, succulents, arranged flowers and a few different plants. I always feel at ease when I walk in here. It's like a breath of fresh air. The workers are very kind and always helpful when I have questions. Cactus and Tropicals has a great location on top of the hill and a beautiful greenhouse. Inside the shop they have tall ceilings with a lot of tall plants and some of the biggest Fiddle Leaf Fig trees I've seen. The aesthetic in there is really good too, you can tell they know what's in. All of the plants and succulents they have there are the latest and on trend selection. They even have a nice flower shop inside where they do bouquets and more. The reason I feel this is a 3 star for me is mainly because of the service and the employees here. It's very hit or miss and mostly a miss. I've had a few friendly employees that have gone above and beyond to help me out with what I was looking for or just advice on a plant I'm having some trouble with. But most of the time unfortunately, the employees are cold and make you feel like an inconvenience. read more

I love this place - so it makes no sense to me that the average person in SLC doesn't go here for their plants - especially indoor plants! With the summers and winters being as they are, we were desperate to find some more house plants! We went to a number of places and saw absolute crap! Every time we asked for a suggestion we were given a hand full of places, plus Cactus & Tropicals, with the caveat that C&T was insanely pricey. Needless to say we kept avoiding it given that everyone's "go-to spots" were stupidly expensive!! I'm so sad we wasted time and didn't start with C&T! The selection is phenomenal and wonderful in quality! The staff is incredibly knowledgeable! The prices aren't bad at all - they're on par with any nursery in Seattle. And don't start with the argument of - well Seattle is way more expensive that SLC, so of course you think this is ok. One trip to Paradise Palm proved that SLC is egregiously over priced, when it comes to indoor plants! We've been back several times now and love all of the plants and potters we've bought! I walked into Cactus and Tropicals (where I've been many times before) looking around for someone to assist me. I was shopping for a flower bouquet for my coworkers 5 year anniversary. I could not find anyone to assist me and finally walked up to a counter in the back. I politely asked the women cutting flowers if I could ask her a question. She responded by not looking up and asking, "what." Very curtly. I repeated myself and smiled, as I was in a fantastic mood. She responded with "yeah" also very rudely and still not looking at me. I paused and said "Nevermind!" And started to walk away. At that point, I think she realized how rude she was and said "no you're fine!!" I decided to keep walking right out the door. The lack of respect for someone in a customer service job is disappointing. Especially when I've always loved coming here. The rude attitude is NOT worth the price you pay for flowers at this place. I have bought a few orchids, succulents, and ficus here. I also bought a ficus retusa bonsai and a really cool low light plant for my office space. Every time I go in, there is this one guy in particular who I go to to answer all my questions. He knows everything! Not only that, he'll re-pot and dress up a plant like nobody I've ever seen. I usually choose my own pot, then I let him go to work. I've had one or two other people there help me, and they're almost equally as good. I could just go there to relax - it's got such a nice vibe. Being surrounded by so many unique plants feeling a tiny bit of humidity for a change is a welcome experience. If you can spend a few bucks extra for your greenery, you can't beat the quality and service of Cactus & Tropicals. I'm a fan for life. read more

I'm a proud plant nerd. Whenever I'm lucky enough to have a couple of extra hours, I wander through Cactus & Tropicals dreaming of all the exotic plants I'd love to adopt. They have a superb selection of quality indoor and outdoor plants, and a nice line of accessories; so, you pick out your own container and they will repot your new guy into it for you! They have the standard set, and then many plants that you don't see around here anywhere else. They carry plant food, pest control, and other items that you can pick up while you're there if you choose. They also offer botanical classes, and a helpful website. We have purchased many plants, large and small, from Cactus & Tropicals. I love chatting with the staff about plant care. They're always very helpful and friendly. I've often gone back to attend their classes; and gone back to talk to them about plant issues. And they even smile when they have to walk you around the whole place because you can't decide which of their lovely green things to take home... I wanted to avoid including a "but," but...here it comes - they are NOT cheap. Their plants are nicely taken care of, and basically have been grown in a huge greenhouse. So you're getting a good product. We're very persnickety about the plants we purchase, and we've never felt ripped off. You will feel a little tinge when you pull out your wallet, though. read more

My wife loves this place. And I love it too, because they make choosing gifts for those who love plants. I often make a bee-line to the clearance-priced cart that they typically have sitting against the far wall, because I like to save my money (and their clearance plants are usually still in great condition). The place can be pretty pricey, but I find the same of other nurseries of similar quality. I also recommend signing up for their customer rewards program.
