This garden store is probably ranked number 2 in my list of garden nursery's that I have visited in the state of Utah. They have a big selection of all kinds of healthy trees! they have expanded and changed things up sense the last time I have visited. I was a little disappointed this time because this nursery use to be my go to store for dahlias but they have only carried the basic types of dahlias that you can find at all the other nursery's. Last summer when I went they had dahlias that I have never seen in nursery's before. the employees kept to themselves when I visited today. They aren't consistent with greeting or helping. but overall this is a place I trust when it comes to buying healthy plants from. The prices are pretty fair so I recommend checking shades nursery if you haven't already! read more

On a recent grand tour of Utah County nurseries, Shade was our first stop. This is THE place to go for houseplants. Due to their increasing popularity, you can find succulents and cacti near everywhere, but Shade offered an incredible variety, easily the vastest that I've seen in person, and featuring many especially rare or uncommon specimens. Planter selection was also quite large, mostly modern and classic styles. They sell exceptionally beautifully designed arrangements of indoor plants, so seek out Shade for fauna loving friend gift perfection. Heck, come here to get gifts for those with black thumbs, too: There were throws, vases, and other home goods and décor! Of course they have outdoor plants as well. I noticed many Japanese Maples (another plant of the minute), and while they carried a few vegetables and herbs, the selection was noticeably small as compared to other nurseries. Their overall aesthetic is on trend, so so lovely, even down to the displays and placement of plants and products both indoor and out. It makes wandering around a complete joy. They have event space available for rent, and judging by the shop, no doubt it's stunning. I left with a pretty hellebore and a specific spiky succulent I've desired forever but never been able to find. My mom left with a literal armful of colorful annual flowers. Prices were overall average, and customer service was fine, though I did feel like they hurried us a bit through check out. As we exited, a darling toddler tripped and dropped his container of ladybugs. Thankfully, both the package and kid appeared unscathed, so snatch up some ladybugs here, too, just be careful - walking is hard sometimes! read more

This place was super cute and aesthetic. As a first time planter, I decided to come here to get my plants. I had previously called and asked which plants would be the most suitable for beginners. (They are very responsive on the phone, which is great!) They told me that there will be people who could help me out at the store. Yet, when I arrived nobody greeted or helped out. When I asked for tips from two workers, they said they were not sure. So, I had to walk around to ask different workers. I was quite disappointed with the help and knowledge of the workers. As I was mainly looking at house plants, I must say that I was quite disappointed with some of the plants that I was previously eyeing. There were leaves that were broken off and wilting. Yet, I also managed to find other plants that looked so pretty! I love the selection of the pots and think that they are a good price in comparison to other online stores. I loved how they also helped me repot my plants for free as I purchased the pot AND the plant from the store (their requirement for free potting). read more

I was swooning when I found this gem on Yelp. Swooning. I looked at the photos and past reviews and was stoked to come in person and see what they had to offer. I've been on a tear lately with houseplants. My little collection has ballooned from a lone snake plant to a whole family of shade-loving indoor plants which, parenthetically, are hating this colder weather. While not as cute and precious as other nurseries in the valley, their main gifty area is still trendy and will hold enough inspiration for you to get rolling. I saw a wall mounted round container that is still on my mind, for example. Though that swinging bed thing was crazy cool. Really, though, I was headed for greenhouse number two. That's where the indoor stuff is. An it was full of a lot of the favorites. I was a little bummed to see some of the plants were flagging; I felt the soil and it was dry. The monstera in particular were having a hard time. But many others were in good shape, and oh my gosh, I found a dieffenbachia that had to come home with me. Unfortunately it wasn't labeled, but I *think* it may be dieffenbachia "camouflage" but I"m not sure. No matter what though, I love it. It was a find. After that, though, it was time to tour the grounds. We met Tony (from Georgia), who gave us a lay of the land, and we headed out to the yard. This is a massive operation! They have tons and tons of trees, a whole hoop house (un-enclosed) full of Japanese Maple, and shrubs, bushes, and an insane amount of plants out there. As it's off-season, there weren't really any annuals and the perennials were all being shifted around, but this is a big place, that probably does a ton of commercial and/or wholesale business. Kudos to them for reinvesting in the business and catering a bit more to us indoor plant peeps. Hopefully that continues to come along in the care, variety, and labeling, and I want to come back in the warmer months to see what it all looks like when it's humming along. read more

They have a great selection of indoor plants!! Tons of cute pots also. I purchased a plant and then noticed they will repot your new plant so I went back and bought a pot. There was no drainage hole in the pot so they even made me one!!!! Whaaaaat? Who does that?!? They do! My new favorite (just moved to Utah) nursery. read more

I bought a plant and it isn't working out. It wasn't that alive in the first place and I called to ask what I could do if they had any suggestions or if I could return or exchange it and she proceeded to tell me that I should google how to do it. That they don't do returns and then hung up on me. I tried to call back and they ignored my phone calls. read more

I would do no stars if I could. I spent 1500 on trees and had my tree guy deliver them and plant. He told me that there is a 1 year warranty on trees purchased from this nursery. My 550 dollar tree was dead within one month, when I called shade to figure out what to do I was informed there was no warranty like every other tree nursery and that they would not work with me in any way. So including labor for the tree I spent 1000 for a worthless piece of firewood. I will never recommend anyone shop at this scam of a nursery. Go to Cooks Greenhouse just down the road, they guarantee their trees for one year and will take care of their customers. Shade doesn't care about them after they spend their money. read more

I've passed by this place everyday for the last 6 years. Little did I know that 1 year ago a breath of new life infused the inner walls of this beautiful place. Upon asking the staff, we came to find out new owners are responsible for the change and they have really made this a destination for not only plants but interior decor. They have such a variety of modern/rustic look that is popular and timeless. They are also building a space for event rental. I can only imagine how stunning it will be once it's done. Glad to be the first review on here as people in the future will see when they look that they are a 5 star company. We've been in there several times over the last couple months buying plants for the pots we've been making. Sure enough every time we go in there all of the staff are incredibly helpful. Im still fairly new to plant shopping so its super helpful when the staff help educate me. We're also super thankful that they invited us to be a vendor at their vendor marketplace event last night. I was personally blown away with how amazing they transformed that part of their lot so quickly too. They obviously hire extremely well and i love how much they support local. I should add that they have super cool products and even if they were a bunch of jerks id still see myself going in there for the quality products. I go here about every week. I love that they ALWAYS have new stuff every time I come. The decorations are adorable. I end up buying something every time I come, whether it be a large mirror or a succulent. The staff is really kind. Not to mention- their event space is AMAZING. I mean, really amazing. Here is our experience with shade home and garden. We bought 3 trees (limelight hydrangeas trees) and the exact soil they asked us to get. We planted them same day exactly how they said to. On Saturday and by Monday they were all shriveling and dying. We called them to see what to do and they said it needed more water. We'd been watering them for 20-30 minutes a day. So we started watering even more. Still nothing. We keep watering to see if it needed time. Still nothing. We went back in to ask about them about them and they said they looked really unhealthy and dying. They said they would come out the next day at a specific time and they didn't show. No call or anything. (Come on I took work off for it). We asked about either a refund or a replacement. They said they wouldn't help us out because it was our fault. But how could it be our fault when we did exactly what they said to do? Who knows. Please don't go to this nursery. They don't care about their customers. Just money. read more
