Here's why: Firstly, when we initially spoke with Ashley, who presented herself as the owner of River Oak Academy in Watertown and Torrington Preschool Center in Torrington, the onboarding process seemed sketchy. They insisted that we sign up for Care For Kids, even though they claimed to have connections with the program. Despite this red flag, we decided to enroll our child in the school, paying $250 instead of the originally requested $395 with Care For Kids. However, several issues started to arise. The phone on-site would ring their personal cell phones, making it difficult to immediately connect with someone on-site. One of the Directors in particular was often unavailable, citing issues with their phone carrier. Additionally, the lead teacher of the preschool-aged group, would frequently contact us about our child's unsafe behavior. We questioned the cause of these behaviors, but the "lead teacher" would simply attribute them to transitions between activities. The only communication through the Bright Wheel app seemed to be when our son misbehaved, with little to no positive feedback recorded. River Oak Academy would make us sign incident reports for minor incidents caused by our son, such as accidentally scratching someone. However, when our son's lip was cut by another child, we had to request an incident report. As the weeks went by, the lead teacher consistently complained about our child's unsafe behavior, which led to us canceling activities to address the issue. Despite this, the school claimed they could still support him. In January, shortly after our son's 3rd birthday, we received no communication through the Bright Wheel app, assuming he had a good day. However, just before pick-up, the lead teacher messaged us, requesting to speak. Frustrated by the late notification, we called the "lead teacher's" cell phone since the school's phone was still not working. She explained our son's "unsafe" behavior during lunch, and mentioned that he had climbed into the sink when another teacher turned her back to assist a student with pick up. We requested video evidence or documentation, but none was provided at the time. During pick-up, my partner met with the two teachers and the director, who showed him a video of our son in the sink while repeatedly telling him, "It's not a bathtub, right?" We continued to ask for more information, but they kept repeating the same story. When we got home we called River Oak to set up a meeting for the next morning. The Director, who was not present during pick-up, answered and mentioned that their phone was still not working. However, less than 10 minutes later, the other director called and informed us that she had reviewed the tape and saw a teacher putting our child in the bathroom after dragging him on the floor. That night, we contacted the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and filed a complaint of neglect. In conclusion, our experience with this daycare has been incredibly concerning and alarming, prompting us to take immediate action to ensure our child's safety and well-being.

We've been here since August 2011. My oldest daughter loves her teachers, all the activities, art,…read morereading and outside play time she gets. My toddler loves her teachers, being outdoors and singing songs. The staff is knowledgeable, caring and (for the most part) long term employees. My girls have the same few teachers day in and day out and the schedule stays the same with teacher(s) every AM and the same in the PM. I love the consistency of knowing who is with my girls every day. I also love all the creativity in activities, themes and lessons that are provided for the older kids! In the evening when I pick up my toddler all toys that have been "mouthed" by the kids are air drying on the counter after being cleaned. The facility is owned and run by two sisters (Palmira and Maria) who are on site every day. They split they day so one of them is there from open until close. I appreciate having the ability to ask a quick question or give an update directly to the owners for things like health care, forms, etc. They spend the summer months going through their supplies, games, puzzles and the facility while the enrollment is lower due to summer vacations and eliminate anything that might be missing pieces or damaged, replace and repair whatever can be that they haven't caught along the way and doing the minor repairs and upkeep necessary to keep any facility of this kind looking clean. This was appeal ling to me while I was visiting the site in the summer of 2011. They also have plans to expand a covered porch area for the younger kids to be able to get some fresh air even when there's snow on the ground. I also like that they are involved in the scholastic book club ordering for the older children and St. Judes Trike-a-thon and the MDA Hop-A-thon. It's made sharing lessons of charity, caring for others, and "paying it forward" staple conversation in our house. I have experiences with 4 different daycares thanks to changes in our circumstances (family expanded, job requirements, etc). and I'm extremely happy with this choice. I just wish they were closer to my home! The one drawback and that may be because of last years unusual wet season - there are a lot of mosquitoes and my oldest is a magnet! This year we'll be using a skin-so-soft sunscreen combo to try to prevent bug bites. Hopefully with the dryer winter this won't be an issue. FYI Parents provide as appropriate: Sleeping materials (sheet and blanket and lovey) All meals and snacks sunscreen (must apply at home in the AM, center reapplies later in the day) change of clothes diapers, wipes, diaper cream/powder bibs

As any family would prior to placing your children, you ask for experiences, as someone who didn't know many people with young children in my area (I'm not originally from this area) I rely on reviews like this to help me figure out what questions to ask and to help me in narrowing down my choices. I did notice the smell of urine/mildew inside and figured it was due to the toddlers and diaper changes, etc... Everything was fine until I saw my son get pushed by another child at the top of this 5 foot slide they had. The other child had pushed my son off it and thankfully myself and his father were there to catch him from hitting the gravel below. He was bullied by this kid several times. I brought it to there attention and instead of them handling it, they started to write up my son on a daily basis claiming he was the one bullying others. Let me remind you we saw with our own eyes the kid pushing our kid off the play yard. We were talking to our son when this other kid did it and our son did nothing to provoke it. My son started coming home with nosebleeds, etc and I complained to the school. I was called into the office and was told my son could no longer go there and had to find a new school within a month. The director at the time (a few years ago) was ignorant and the owner was an old man who thinks he is a walking psychiatrist. Neither one of them cared to listen to what I was saying. Well I found a new school and I highly recommend ALL of you contact them- we switched to one near chase collegiate in the church nearby which is very close to wee care ( cant give the name according to guidelines). They were awesome.... my son attended for the last 2 months of the year, they took us in when they were booked and they NEVER had any issues with my son. My son later told me that at Wee care, his main teacher used to show horror movie people on her cell phone to the kids to scare them to be quiet. He hated that school. Do not go here, they are overpriced compared to the others. My son didn't seem to learn a thing there. He finally started to learn the alphabet, numbers etc once we switched to the other school nearby. SWITCH! Wee care is plain terrible, take it from me.
