I saw some turtles in the swamp and even a turtle on one of the trails laying an egg! The dunes are beautiful. It was cool wating the storm roll in from the ocean. The boardwalk is nice to walk along. They are pet friendly.

These are just a few of the majestic and breathtaking birds that I saw when visiting the Audubon Bird Sanctuary on Dauphin Island near Mobile, Alabama. If you are a birdwatcher, or if you just love nature and walking along wooden footpaths through groves of trees and lagoons covered with lily pads, you'll enjoy spending some time here. I walked for an hour with my binoculars, listening and looking for birds. I saw birds that I knew, and birds that I've never seen before. I stood and gazed at the lagoon and lily pads, enjoying the quietude of nature and water. I walked through the shade of trees, listening the the hum of silence broken only by birdsong. Birding is a peaceful hobby. It's about listening, looking, and patience. Being at the Audubon Bird Sanctuary gave me the sense of peace and calm that only nature can provide.

This park is off the beaten path, it has portable toilets instead of permanent restrooms. There are six pavilion ms with picnic tables, trashcans, water faucets, and electric light switches that includes two AC outlets to charge your phone, plug in a radio, etc. There are no BBQ pits at this park, so you will need to bring your own portable grill. There is a playground set back far from the road, has newer playground equipment in good conditions plus swing sets. The park also has walkways, a basketball court, and a large open green space directly behind the playground.the park had two small sized parking lots, one by the entrance, and one next to the playground.

There are several pavilions, a children's play area, and more. I enjoyed just walking this park and along the pier just across the street. I also noticed that they had a lot of metal arch-type structures just before the pavilions that stated "PAVILIONS" throughout the property. I was talking to a client about it the next day, and he told me the shipping yard donated them to the community. This made sense to me. Pascagoula has a huge shipping manufacturer in their town. Obviously, this park was pretty popular to the community. The place had a lot of people just hanging out and enjoying being alive in the moment. Everything from a family enjoying the evening and a pizza, to joggers and dogwalkers to teenagers just hanging out were taking advantage of Pascagoula Beach Park. If business returns me to Pascagoula, Mississippi again, I would definitely return here. I am pretty sure there are public restrooms near the baseball concession area, but I did not go there. There were horses grazing in a field with some donkeys just beyond the gazebo.

This park features mounds composed of shucked oysters from indigenous tribes. These tribes roasted…read moreand discarded the oysters in which they acquired from the water near the island. Do not expect to walk into the park and see a section where mounds of oyster shells are located. You are literally walking on the mounds throughout the trail. You will see the shells on the ground as you go. The sign that we read does not specify exactly what the mounds are, so we were confused at first when we stopped here. My sister stayed in the car with the kids as I walked to look for the mounds. She looked up what the mounds were while I came upon the realization that I was actually walking on them halfway through the trail. It was a little disappointing as that was not what we were expecting, but the vegetation was nice. I can definitely see why this spot would be great for bird watchers. I do wish the park was more maintained as I saw trash along the trails like cans and the wooden benches were not clean. Also, the sign really does need to be more informative on what the park actually is and features. The parking was nonexistent. We were lucky enough to get the small gravel area in front of the entrance, but everyone else would have to park on the road. It's a really nice place to just walk around, look at the different species of plants/birds, and due to the historical context of the mounds you walk on. It's cool to think back to how everything was before and what the indigenous folk were thinking about/doing.
